It didn't help, one bit. Calum's breathing only gets heavier by the second while his mom watches him slowly suffocate under her own gaze, not able to do anything about her son that can't take a breath, who's looking at her with eyes as big as a deer's in front of an upcoming bus.
It was weird to Luke, the feeling of the burn that took over his lungs, his dad kicking him in the stomach while he didn't feel anything. He only felt the slight burn, but it was relaxing and felt like it had always been there. Luke was used to it all by now, and he was done. He wants it all to just end right here, right now.
His blue eyes shoot open, remembering his soulmate. If Luke dies, he or she does too. Luke starts to lift his arms up, slowly but painful, his thoughts fixated on the fact that if he dies right here, right now, his soulmate will too. His soulmate would be ripped away from his family just because Luke was selfish, his or her family would have to live with the fact that their family member died because of his soulmate being a di.ck.
So, Luke pushed at his dads hands as soon as he got his arms on the right height. His dad grunts as he feels Luke's willpower to fight back, and stops his kicking.
''Trying to fight back, boy? You can't do anything right, you are worthless, so why not die?'' His dad yells, his strength on Luke's only entrance for oxygen getting stronger and his grip getting tighter.
''My soulmate.'' Luke can barely make out, before his vision starts to get blurry, his lungs screaming at Luke's brains for oxygen, for any sort of air. But, Luke's brain can't do anything about the tight hold the blonde by his dad has on him, so the blue eyed boy's brain doesn't provide Luke's lungs with much needed oxygen.
''Your soulmate? You've got to be kidding me, nobody will ever love you.'' His dad snaps at the tall boy, Luke's eyes starting to droop close and his lips getting a slightly purple tint to them.
''I don't care.. he or she deserves a life.'' Luke whispers, before making a move that could break his neck. He pulls backwards, his head hitting the concrete wall behind him, making him let out a groan in pain.
The tight grip the Australian boy his dad had on him is barely there anymore, so Luke kicks him right in the stomach, making the old man fall backwards, onto the hard wooden floor. Luke lungs start to work on the oxygen they are finally receiving, his brains starting to function again as his blue eyes are fixated on his dad, who's laying on the floor.
''You're gonna regret that, son of a bi.tch!'' Luke's dad yells as he stands up, ready to throw a swing at Luke his head. ''O hell no.'' Luke whispers to himself, before throwing a swing at his father before the old man can even make a move.
His dad groans once again, his nose starting to bleed from the impact the swing had. The bald man looks up, to look at his son, before Luke kicks him against the head, making the man fall on the ground, unconscious.
Calum gasps as his lungs start to fill themselves with much needed oxygen. The Maori boy coughs, while he retreats his hands from his throat. ''Mom..'' He whispers before his vision gets blurry. Salty tears start to form in his eyes, leaking onto his puffy cheeks, staining them as his mom embraces him tightly.
''Mali! He's okay!'' His mom yells. Calum can hear someone running up the stairs before storming into his room. ''O my god Cal, you scared us.'' The Maori girls whispers before dropping to her knees as well, and embracing her brother.
''I'm sorry..'' Calum whispers, his voice scruffy and his throat dry. ''Don't apologize baby, it's okay. Mali, get your brother some water please.'' His mom turns her head towards Mali. The brown haired boy can see his sister nodding and standing up, walking out of the room.
''What just happened, mom?'' Calum asks as he slowly starts to sit up, still wrapped in his mother's warm arms. ''Well.. you didn't choke on something, so your soulmate just got attacked by someone and choked.'' A gasp erupts from the back of Calum's throat, his eyes starting to tear again at the thought of his soulmate almost dying.
''He's not dead, right?'' Calum knows that when your soulmate dies, you die too. It's something your parents tell you when you're young, it's almost a law to tell your kids that.
''No, Calum, otherwise you would've been dead too.'' His mom's head sinks further into her son's chest as she silently releases a small sigh. ''I want to find him so bad mom.'' Calum whispers.
''I know, buddy, I know.''
Luke's head feels like it's going to explode as he runs through his neighbourhood, his eyes fixated on the grey pavement that disappears under the soles of his black boots, his backpack bouncing on his back every single step he takes, reminding the blonde boy of the stuff inside of it.
There were just a few t-shirts in there, some food and a clean pair of skinny jeans, it was supposed to help Luke through the next few days, before he had to return to his awful life in his awful house with his awful dad.
The blonde shivers at the thought of having to return to his dad, the most crazy person he has ever laid his eyes upon. ''It's gonna be fine, Hemmings, you'll be fine.'' He whispers to himself.
It never turned out to be fine. It never went the way Luke wanted.
When the blue eyed boy returned to his house a few days after he was almost choked to death, his dad wasn't there anymore. People who worked for a moving company were loading in their old furniture when Luke spotted them.
''What are you guys doing?'' He had asked one of the tall and strong looking man who worked there. ''This house is empty now, mate. The old man who lived here just gave the keys to our company two days ago. Said he didn't need it anymore, nice fella that is.'' Luke chuckles at the 'nice fella' the man says before shaking his head.
''That man was everything but a nice person.'' Luke half-heartedly smiled at the worker, before pulling down a small bit of his turtleneck, showing off just a small part of the huge bruise his dad's hand left on his throat.
''Dude, that's not okay. We have his name, ya know? We can get him in jail for ya.'' Luke shakes his head with a sad smile. ''Let him be. He'll die on his own anyway.'' Luke had sighed at the man and waved before walking away from his house.
Luke had figured out how is dad stayed alive while his mom died, they were never soulmates after all. Either his dad's mark was fake, or his moms. It clicked in his head when the blonde turned eighteen. He was lonely, living on the streets and had barely eaten in a few days when it clicked in his head.
Now, at the age of twenty-one, the blue eyed boy still lives on the streets. He washes his clothes by seducing people in the laundromat, he showers once a week when he has enough money to use the public swimming pool, and he eats out of trash cans.
But, the one thing that was the strangest thing, Luke was happy. He loved being outside all the time, the freedom he had and the time on his hands was great.
Right now, Luke was on his way to the grocery store to steal something to eat. He barely stole stuff, but the boy was hungry and desperate, so he saw no other choice than just to hope and pray it worked out just fine and Luke could go to his usual alleyway with a bag of chips and maybe a can of soda.
His backpack is heavy as he walks down the road, onto the slightly more greyish pavement in front of the grocery store. The two sliding doors open themselves for the boy and he walks in, nervously fiddling with the handles on his backpack.
He smiled at some people he recognized from the neighbourhood his alleyway was in, them waving back awkwardly. The lanky blonde slowly made his way to the chips aisle, his black combat boots making a loud noise on the white polished floor, and Luke craved that they would shut up so he could steal in peace, without the sound of his boots grasping all the attention.
As he turned the corner into the chips aisle, he felt a sudden warmth fall over himself. Luke's eyes widen, he knew what this meant. His soulmate was nearby. He immediately looked up, his eyes scanning the few people that were in the aisle.
There was one family, which Luke guessed his soulmate wouldn't be a part of, so he scanned further towards a slightly tanned man.
A black tight suit jacket adorned the man's fit body, black skinny jeans hugging his long and deliciously slightly thick thighs, making Luke lick his lips. But, there was no way that this man would be his soulmate, this boy looked way too successful for Luke to even talk to.
The blonde sighs as he just walks to the bags of chips, grabbing the onion and cheese one. He turned the bag of delicious chips around, pretending he was reading it. He waited for the gorgeous man and the family to leave, before he turned around, facing the aisle filled with chips and opening his backpack.
Before he could shove the bag of chips into his black backpack, a thick voice filled the air. ''You shouldn't be stealing, bud.'' The voice their Australian accent was very thick, the voice a low tone and a bit scruffy, like the person had some sort of cold.
Luke's shoulders fell as he slowly turned around, bag of chips still in hand, cheeks a tinted red colour and his feet fiddling with his jeans.
The boy his blue eyes widen as he sees who it is. It's the handsome man in his sexy jacket and with his beautiful thighs. The blonde boy ushers himself to look the handsome man in the eye.
He slowly raises his gaze to look the slightly tinted boy in the eye, and when he does, a warm feeling fills his chest and runs through his bones, making him gasp.
''HelloSoulmate, I'm Calum, Calum Hood.''
there ya go.
