Chapter 3
Angelo's P.O.V
I was sweating like a pig from running to get into class. Fortunately, I wasn't that really late but still, I hate being late. I have this habit of being on the dot and I do hate the verb WAITING.
I think it was the worst first day ever that happened to me so far. I mean in my whole history of schooling. I'm living alone in my rented apartment after running away from my family. It's been 2 months now after my 21st birthday when I ran away. Now, being an independent is not that easy as I thought. I still have to continue my degree to achieve my dream of becoming a lawyer. And to be able to do that considering that I'm on my own now, I have to work full time in a pub as bartender every night.
There was a lot of customer last night so we had to do an overtime work. I got home around 2 o' clock in the morning, which was not cool at all. I have to attend my first day at my new university and get into my 8 am class. The distance from my apartment to uni consists of an hour of train travel and 5 minutes bus. I had to get up at 5 o'clock since I spend a whole hour to prepare my entire thing I need and get dressed. So basically, that means I only had 3 hours of sleep.
I decided to take a breakfast at the shopping centre's food court. I was half an hour late already in my first subject. As far as I really hate to be marked as 'absent' for my first day, I really had to fill my growling stomach. Whenever I'm hungry, I tend to get dizzy so I had to prevent it by eating.
I ordered two cheeseburgers and a hot chocolate in Mccas and seated on the corner where no one can notice me. There are several several thing I'm scared of doing:
-ordering food in a restaurant
-walking down a busy street on my own
-talking to people
-asking for help in a shop
-meeting new people
-being in a big crowd with a lot of people I don't know
-and lastly, eating in front of people. It's just too uncomfortable knowing that there were people staring at you while devouring the delicious heart attack food.
After fulfilling my stomach's desire, I scanned the area in need to find a toilet to empty my bladder. "Stupid management, why didn't they think about building a nearby toilet here." I thought while rushing upstairs following the toilet sign.
After washing my hands, I trotted out the toilet to attend my second subject which was about to start in 30 more minutes. I can't be late again since I've skipped my first subject already.
I was walking out to the exit when I saw a boy, probably around 4 years old, brown hair, looking worried and in verge of crying. He was alone and he seems lost.
When he started wiping the tears away from his eyes, I can't help myself to comfort the boy and help him in whatever he needs. I really love kids. I'm actually dreaming to have a son someday. I can't bear to see a child crying. For any unknown reason, it breaks my heart.
Instead of heading up to catch the bus going to uni, I walked over to the boy's direction. I stopped in front of him and leaned down to match his height. He looked at me with his tearful big blue eyes. His cheeks were pink from crying. After a couple of sobs while looking at me, he threw himself to me and hugged me like his life depends on it.
I was surprised by his sudden action but it actually melted my heart. I hugged him back and patted his back to sooth him from crying. After he calmed down, he leaned out to face me with his now beaming blue eyes.
"What's the problem little buddy?" I asked him while wiping his tear out with my thumbs.
"I can't find my nana. Are you my guardian angel?" he asked. So this boy was lost as I thought.
"It's gonna be fine buddy. I will help you find nana, okay?" He nodded. Though I was confuse by his question.
I cocked my head right and left to find any staff that can assist us. The boy then pulled my hand to get my attention. "My nana told me to pray to my guardian angel whenever I need help. I was praying to my guardian angel to help me and then you came. I'm sure you are my guardian angel!" he said with his big grin. So that's what the question was about.
I smiled at what he said. I was about to answer when I saw a security guard walking to other direction. I called his attention and he walked towards us. "Yes sir?" he asked, expressionless. Seriously, is this guy some kind of sleep deprived or he just hate his job? Hmmm... I'm guessing that it's probably the latter. He looked at me then turned his attention to the boy with his bored but scary big eyes.
He didn't intimidate me at all, though the kid cowered behind me when the security guard looked at him. "Ah mister, this little boy here was lost. He was with his grandmother. His granny might be worried by now and I think we should page her from intercom or something." I stated while holding the boy's hand at my back.
The guard responded me with an obvious fake smile then took out his walky-talky radio. "Sure sir." He passed the information to his colleagues and after a couple of minutes, he's radio sounded with static. A voice spoke from the speaker and told the guard that they found the kid's grandmother and asked him to meet up in the information section of the shopping centre.
I told the kid that his nana is waiting for him. He jumped and giggled from glee and excitement to see his nana again. That made me chuckle from his cuteness. I looked at my watch only to find out that I only had 10 minutes before the class. I still had to take 5 minutes of bus ride to get into the university.
I sadly leaned down in front of the boy. "Hey buddy, I have to get going now. I have to get into my class. I'm sorry. But Mr. Security guard here will take you back to nanny okay?" I told him half-heartedly.
The kid's smiled suddenly turned into a deep frown. His tears fell from his eyes until he ended up sobbing. "Please don't go. I (sob) I want you (sob) you to take me to nan (sob) nan (sob) nana." he struggled.
I hugged him tight and kissed his forehead to soothe him. I wiped his tears away and lifted him up to carry him. He then wrapped his arms to me tenderly when I placed him in my embraced. I felt so attached to the kid in just a short period of time.
"Okay buddy, I'm not going anywhere" I whispered to him. I nodded to the guard and followed him to the information section to meet his grandmother.
"Sweetie! Oh dear, where have you been?" the lady in long white casual dress screamed in relief when she saw us walking towards them. I was guessing that she was the grandmother of this kid.
"Nana!" the kid beamed and jumped out from my arms to hug his nana. "Guardian angel helped me to find you!" he told her with his big cute grin.
The lady turned to face me. "I'm Sonia, thank you for finding my grandson." Sonia hugged me then wiped her teary eyes with her hanky. "I don't know what to do if I lost him." she continued.
"It's my pleasure ma'am. This little buddy here is a good boy." I answered. "If you'll excuse me, I have to run now because I have to attend my class." I didn't tell her that I'm running late. I didn't want her to worry and think that it's their fault that I was going to be late.
"I better get going now, ma'am. I hope to see you later." I told Sonia politely.
"Thank you so much dear. I really hope to see you again." she muttered while giving me a hug.
I looked down at the boy who was flashing a big smile. I leaned down at his level. "I'm going now buddy, be a good boy, okay?" I hugged him and he hugged me back.
"Thank you guardian angel." He whispered to me and kissed my cheek.
"Before I go, may I ask your name little buddy?" I asked. His face lit up with happiness.
"My name is Jared." He beamed. "Are we gonna see each other again?"
"I have a feeling we will, Jared." I smiled and rushed out to catch the bus.
