Camping

I never was a romance fan I always left that up to the girls. But lately my feelings for my best friend was changing and I had uncontrollable urges, like wanting to make out, hold hands, sit and talk, and cuddle with him. What the he'll was I turning into. It all started on a camping trip.

It was the four of us me, Darrell (19), Tonya (18), and Charlotte(19). We had planned this end of the year trip for months and when the day finally came it was beyond exciting knowing that after growing up together we were finally going to be able to spend some time alone. Before we all separated for college.

"Ok guys, got everything?" Darrell yelled out to us as he finished cramming the last few items into the trunk.

"We think we are ready." Charlotte called out from her parents' house.

"Are you sure Char, cuz we don't want to be stopping to get your girly stuff for you." Darrell teased. Charlotte was never actually ready for anything. There were times we would spend hours waiting for her just to decide what outfit she was going to wear, so for her to be

ready with one bag for a three day weekend we were all a little skeptical.

Tonya walked by and grabbed Darrell's ass "Hey leave her alone, you need to make sure you have your shit together" She joked as she wrapped her arm around Darrell giving him a slight squeeze.

"Tonya hey baby, be careful with what you touch here this is someone else property." he teased as he returned her hug.

"Sooner or later you'll return my love" she winked and continued to walk past him and straight up to me.

Tonya and I had dated for years, we had known each other since we were 5 and everything for us just seemed to fit together. "Hey handsome" she flirted as she wrapped her arms around me and kissed my cheek.

"Hey baby, you didn't have to walk. You know we were on our way to get you."

"I know I just didn't want to be away from you any longer." a smile spread across her face as she pulled me into a deep kiss. I closed my eyes and let my body relax against hers, this weekend we had decided to make our first time. We both were now 18, and we had decided years ago we'd be together forever, this seemed like the perfect time and place for us.

I opened my eyes shortly before the kiss was finished and I noticed Charlotte and Darrell hugging. Tonya and I had been trying to get those two together for years we were hoping this trip would be the final tip to open up their relationship.

After a few minutes of waiting for Charlotte to check and double check we were on our way.

"So Martin and Darrell y'all are going to make sure we don't get eaten by any grizzlies" Tonya asked , she had never been camping and had been worried for weeks now about all the creatures of the night that roamed the woods.

"Your man can protect you, I think if any grizzlies come along it becomes the all for one and one for all situation" Darrell laughed.

We passed all the usual scenery. The forest was now just in bloom again, everything was turning a nice shade of light to slightly dark green. The air always seemed freshest this time of year with all the new life and fresh new growth in the mountain area. As we drove higher

and higher into the mountains I could tell the girls weren't as excited as Darrell and I were. Me and him had spent several weeks a year out here from the time we were kids with our parents up until the last few years where me and him went alone.

"Look over there" Darrell pointed out the window, the girls both huddled over and looked out the side window. "We are going right there isn't it beautiful from here."

"I don't know it looks like trees and mountains to me" Charlotte complained.

"Ahh...cheer up Charlotte, you'll get to cuddle with Darrell up there in those trees" I teased "You won't even care about being up in the mountains once you are alone."

"Whoopie" she grumbled.

Darrell laughed "I guess I don't excite her" he told me.

Once we were at the camp site Darrell and I quickly put up the tents and started a small fire. Charlotte knew a little about camping so she started cooking while Darrell and I took off to catch some fish.

"I can't believe this may be our last trip ever" I said as I thought about how Darrell and I were going to different schools.

"Yeah, dude I know, I'm gonna miss this" he admitted as he stared out at the water.

"So how are things with you and Charlotte?"

"She's not really my type, you know Martin"

"Oh, sorry about that, I just figured..."

"No, it's ok, she's fun to be with so I'll have fun this weekend" he smirked

"So what is your type" I asked

"Martin, we've been friends for years, I think it's time you know" his voice cracked I could tell he was getting nervous.

"What? Know what?" I asked wondering what was now making him so nervous.

"I'm gay" he announced and quickly glanced at me, but just as quickly he looked away.

"Oh!" I said and sat quietly for a moment. Not knowing what to say. I wasn't expecting to hear that from him. I chuckled and tried to ease the tension, "I guess you would prefer something a little more flat chested than Charlotte" I joked.

Darrell started laughing loudly "Not to gross you out, but yes much more flat chested and maybe a little more manly" he chuckled and then shook his head.

We both laughed. How could I have missed the fact that my best friends was gay. I had known him since we were about 7 when he first moved to the neighborhood and up until this point I thought we knew everything about each other, I guess I was wrong. But this wasn't going to change our friendship, it wasn't like he had just admitted to being a mass murderer or something. He had only admitted to being gay that didn't change anything.

"Well are you with anyone? Cause just to let you know, you could have let him come" I told him trying to show he had nothing to be ashamed about.

"You are really ok with me wanting guys over girls?" he asked sounding nervous and worried.

"Darrell, we are best friends, I can handle it, I don't know if I am ready to see you lip locking with a guy, but I can accept who you are." I assured him and patted him on his back again trying to show it wouldn't change our relationship.

"Well, to answer your question, I am with someone, it's not really all that serious. You see I also like someone, but he has no idea." he frowned and pulled his fishing rod out the water. "It is so much easier to be a straight guy. Being gay you have to worry about who is

or isn't gay, who's out and who isn't, and what everyone else will say." he laid back and folded his arms and put them behind his head.

I briefly checked him out "You know Darrell not trying to sound gay, but if I were gay I'd date you" I chuckled, "Whoever this other guy is, you should just tell him. You never know how things might end up. We both are good looking guys, heck who would turn you down" I smirked. "That wasn't gay was that?" I asked a little nervous at how I must have sound to him.

"Don't worry Martin, I'm not gonna try to jump your bones. And thanks for the compliment." he grinned. And then he mumbled "Wish it were true"

"What did you say?" I was a little shocked by his comment he made under his breath.

“I didn't say anything. It wasn't important anyway whatever I said.” He refused to repeat his words, so I did it for him.

“You mumbled 'wish it were true'. What exactly did you mean by that?” I asked confused by his statement.

"Look, Martin, we have been friends forever and I don't want to ruin our relationship.” He told me sounding extremely nervous and avoiding eye contact with me.

“What could ruin our relationship Darrell, just talk to me, I am really open minded. You know the only thing we both truly hate are dishonest people. So talk to me.” I tried to assure him nothing would come between us.

Darrell took a deep breath, he rubbed his hands through his hair, I knew whatever he was getting ready to say must be difficult for him. Once he said it, I could understand why. “I am attracted to you.”

I slightly gasped, “Oh!” I was a little shocked, I hadn't seen that coming, and although I had just told him to tell the other guy I never thought the other guy was me.

He continued and I listened. “I have had a crush on you for years, you truly excite me in so many different ways, but it's nothing to worry about I would never touch you or anything. Cause I know you are not gay."

"So I am the other guy?" I asked, now looking into his eyes. And although I wasn't gay I have to admit it kind of was exciting hearing him confess to wanting me.

"Yes, and I'm sorry about all of this." he quickly stood up grabbed his fishing pole and started walking away.

"Wait!" I shouted to him. "We are best friends and you don't get to do this, drop something big like this on me and just walk away, come here." I called to him, but he wouldn't turn around.

The rest of that evening was torture. Darrell wouldn't speak to me, he wouldn't even look at me. Just after about 9 the rangers were walking around making sure all camp fires were out it was at that time Darrell excused himself to go to the restroom. As awkward as it seemed I

followed him we had to talk, "Darrell, I know you know I am behind you. Don't just ignore me." I demanded.

"I have nothing to say Martin, and besides I am embarrassed as hell I never meant to say all that to you." he turned and looked at me. His eyes were glistening with tears.

"Listen, I'm not gay, but I am and will always be your best friend. Actually I am flattered as hell by your feelings, but I can't return them. But I still want to be your friend" I reached my hand out to him, when he took my hand to shake it I pulled him to me and hugged

him. "See not afraid the gay will rub off" I teased. We continued walking to the portable toilets.

Walking back to the campsite I decided to tease him a little more "So you think I'm cute, would you do me" I joked

Martin stepped back and looked me up and down "Hell yeah in a heart beat" he grinned from ear to ear.

I don't know if I expected that answer or even wanted an answer. Heck I didn't even know why I asked the question. I shook my head and I am sure I was blushing, "We got to find you someone to get your mind of me, that was just gross how you just looked at me. Yuck!" I shook my head. We both laughed a little at that moment.

Once we got back to our site we went into our separate tents, and that's where it all started for me. Tonya and I didn't do anything that night as a matter of fact to have been so afraid to be in the woods she was already asleep when I got back to my tent. I rested for a while and let my mind wonder to Darrell and his confessions to me. For most guys their worst nightmare would be to have a gay guy come on tho them or have a secret crush on them, but I laid there and thought about everything and I honestly didn't mind. I continued to lay in my sleeping bag completely restless and then I noticed I could hear Charlotte and Darrell laughing. I looked over at Tonya she was sleeping peacefully and snoring. My choices were either lay there bored or go spend time with my other friends I chose my other friends and found myself making my way over to Charlotte and Darrell's tent.

At first I was a little uncomfortable, mostly because of the way Darrell seemed uneasy with me being around. But Charlotte quickly broke the tension when she pulled out a deck of cards and we started playing several different card games. We played different card games and just told silly jokes and laughed most of the night. I would catch Darrell staring at me and when our gazes would meet he would either look away or smile. I'm sure he was just trying to make sure our friendship wasn't ruined now by his big confession, I wish I had some way to tell him everything was fine, but I wasn't sure how to tell him, especially with Charlotte with us.

Charlotte started noticing the gazes and she interrupted us, she cleared her throat loudly

"Umm...guys I am here too or would you like me to leave" she grabbed Darrell's hand as he shot her an evil stare.

“No!” He said holding her hand tight as if he was afraid to be alone with me.

I giggled realizing now that Charlotte knew. "So how long have you known Charlotte?" I asked her"

"Known what?" She asked

"It's ok Charlotte I told him today, he's okay, he just doesn't have the same feelings." Darrell shrugged his shoulders.

"Oh!" she said to Darrell, then she hugged him "I'm sorry" she said softly but it was a small tent so I could hear her whisper. "I've known for years." she turned and told me.

"You could tell her and not me?" I asked slightly upset, “Did you think I would be an ass about it or something?

He shook his head, "I just didn't want to lose my friend."

Charlotte interrupted, “He actually didn't tell me anything, I figured it out with his reactions around you. I started asking him if he liked you, at first he denied it and then finally one day he just told me.” She shrugged her shoulders and patted my back to ease my anger.

I touched his shoulder, "I wish you would have had some faith in me." I felt Darrell tense his shoulder up at my touch. “Look we are still friends, now I can't touch your shoulder without you tensing up. Shouldn't this be the other way around me being nervous about you touching me?” I asked.

Darrell started blushing, “I have always been nervous when you touch me.” He admitted and then looked away from me again.

I couldn't believe he really was crushing on me and I was starting to now worry cause for the first time I was noticing it. But now not only was I noticing it, it was begining to be a turn on. I checked him out once again, I looked at his red blushing face, he was really a good looking guy, but that was something I always thought. I always figured his blonde hair and blue eyes and muscular build, and me and my just awesome naturally curly hair and great Hawaiian looks, we could get anyone we wanted. I never knew I was on his want list. I looked in his eyes again, and at this point I was actually contemplating kissing him.

I licked my lips as I actually thought about the feel of his lips against mine, and completely uncontrollably, I felt myself start to get excited. 'Shit Martin, what the hell' I thought as I try to change my thoughts.

"Hey guys, I'm gonna leave out of here and go back to my tent" I tried to excuse my self, but Charlotte grabbed my arm.

"Why don't you stay here tonight so the two of you can talk about all of this. I'll sleep in your tent" She suggested.

"You don't have to stay if you are uncomfortable" Darrell said as he removed Charlotte’s hand from my wrist.

"N...no I want to stay" I stuttered.

Charlotte started to leave, but I got scared, "Could you stay?" I nervously asked. She shrugged her shoulders.

"Please, I think I feel better with you here too." Darrell requested. Charlotte sat back down and we started eating chips and talking.

"How long have you liked me?" I asked Darrell

"I don't know about 5 or 6 years I suppose" he shyly admitted turning away so our eyes wouldn't meet.

"Why won't you look at me, I told you not to be ashamed of what and

who you are." I reached over and turned his face to look at me.

His big blue twinkling eyes met mine, I sat and stared not breaking my stare as I tried to understand his feelings for me. This was something completely new for me, at I honestly didn't know how to go forward. I didn't want to lose his friendship, the more I sat there with him, the more I questioned my feelings for him. For years I had felt a strange closeness to him, but with my dad the former marine, I could never even pursue a relationship with Darrell. For a moment I looked again at his perfect lips and once again the thought of

having his mouth on mine entered my head.

"Tell me honestly what is on your mind right now" I curiously asked.

"Dude, you don't want to know." he mumbled and brushed his hand across my cheek. I took his hand in mine and intertwined our fingers.

"Tell me please," I begged

He started blushing and with our hands still intertwined and Charlotte still in the room he started telling me . "I want to kiss you slowly so I can feel your moist wet lips against mine, and then I want to slip my tongue in your mouth so I can see if your mouth is as sweet as

I have always dreamed of it being."

"Hey guys, I'm leaving now"Charlotte interrupted, but I stopped her again.

"Please stay." I asked again, with her there I felt like it was all ok as long as a girl was around noting I was thinking was wrong and nothing I was about to do would make me gay.

"Stay Charlotte he feels comfortable with you here, and I am ok if you are." Darrell requested his voice sounding a little deeper and a little more nervous with me.

I swallowed hard at my next words, but I let them spill out my mouth anyway, "Kiss me Darrell, if it helps at all kiss me."

Charlotte's eyes were huge, she couldn't believe what I had just said, heck I couldn't believe it either. Darrell leaned to me and licked his lips, "Are you sure about this," he whispered, I nodded my head, his head leaned to mine, I could feel the warmth from his mouth.

Slowly he brushed his lips against mine, I guess he was savoring the moment. What ever he was doing was driving me insane with him taking so long. My anxiety got the best of me and I put my hands in his hair pulled him closer and let our lips move slowly against each other. He smiled against my lips and slightly chuckled. I slightly moaned, I never thought I would enjoy a kiss with a guy, but I was enjoying this until I felt his tongue swipe across my mouth and I had to end it. I pulled away and quickly left the tent. I paced for a moment trying to

decide if I wanted to go back in, but I figured it would be best to go in my tent and call it a night.

The next day was rough I wanted to be closer to Darrell and I knew he wanted to be with me, it hurt me so bad watching him get upset and walk away as Tonya kissed me. But I couldn't let Tonya know my secret. For now this had to stay how it was. After several hours Tonya and I went to swim in the lake Charlotte and Darrell followed. I watched Darrell as he took off his shirt. His muscles rippled, his sculpted abs were perfect he had his perfect football player body out and I was loving it, dying for another kiss.

Tonya swam over and started teasing me and tickling me, then she requested a little private time. I knew Darrell probably wouldn't like it, but this was the girl of my dreams and he was only my best friend that I had shared one kiss with, he would just have to understand.

Tonya and I left the lake area together telling Charlotte and Darrell we would see them at dinner.

Tonya and I went back to the tent and made out for hours, I would have preferred Darrell, there with me, but I wasn't willing to accept the new feelings I had now opened up. While Tonya was sleeping I left to go to the restroom. As I walked I felt Darrell come up behind me and wrap his arms around me. I moved away not sure how I felt yet about him acting like this with me.

"I'm sorry he whispered I guess I just got the wrong idea from last night" he apologized and turned to walk away.

I grabbed his hand, "Look Darrell give me some time, I am not pushing you away, I just need to think. Give me some time" I repeated myself and gave Darrell a hug which turned into another slight kiss. I pulled away and walked back to the tent.

That was our last intimate moment on that trip, apart from a few stares and dreams the next day went by quickly, and we were on our way home.
