Right after those doors slammed shut, they opened again. And out came the tall dark and handsome Brookline Hamilton. I'm not gonna lie, my heart skipped a little. "Hey', I whisper, crossing my arms as I stood on the front porch of the church.
He looks at me for a second before embracing me in a very tight hug. "I should have known. I should have known. I should have known", he kept repeating. I close my eyes and wrap my arms around him. "I'm a mess".
I pull away and put a hand on his cheek. "Hey, same here" I smile. He chuckles and leans in to kiss me. Just as the doors of the church jerk open. First my parents stormed out, then Brookline's. I pull away but his hand grabs mine. We weren't hugging anymore, but his hand was in mine. Like he needed me in this moment.
"Let's go Keat- I mean Ben!" My mother begins. "We will not be embarrassed like this!". I raise my eyebrow at her.
"Wait a second. This is my fault? I wasn't going to sit there and listen to some dumb ass preach that I was going to hell for loving someone. That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. I'm sorry I'm a f*cking embarrassment to you". I drop Brookline's hand and storm off.
"Ben!" I heard my father yell. I glanced back and my mom was just standing there with her arms crossed. I saw her ramblings something and I swear I saw her lips form "Keaton". I put my head down and kept walking.
I was walking slow, wanting someone to follow me. I heard yelling and screaming from Brookline. Finally, he caught up to me. I didn't say anything and neither did he. He just took my hand in his and we walked on.
I wasn't sure where we were. Or why we were there. All I know is that we were deep in the woods under a shade tree, hiding from the cruel rain. The sun had set hours ago and when it did, the moon and rain took its place. Which caused Brookline and I to silently take cover.
It was about 45 minutes after the rain came, the thunder and lightning started. I hung my head as Brookline shivered hopelessly beside me. I look over at him. It was dark but I could still make out his face. "You know, I read somewhere that cuddling warms you up" I smile.
"N-no t-thanks. I'm usually the b-big spoon. I-I usually am the cuddler, not the cuddle-ee" he shivers. I roll my eyes and put my arm around him. He willingly cuddles into me and puts his head on my shoulder. "O-or n-not".
He ended up falling asleep like that. I stayed up listening to the rain hit the leaves over our heads. It had to have been very very late in the night. I turned my phone on to check the time.
When I did, and the light illuminated my face, I heard a gun Cock from somewhere close.
