So, my dad forgot to inform me that my mother would be crashing our football party, sadly. I don't personally think he "forgot", he just flat out chose not to tell me. Which was probably a good idea.
The game was just about to start as the players ran onto the field and I started frantically chewing in my nails. Which earned me a nudge from my father on my right. My mother was sitting beside him and there was an empty seat beside me. "Nervous?" He asked me, raising his eyebrow. "Wasn't aware that you liked football that much".
I shrug and examine my now chewed nails. "I dunno. It just feels..important", I lie. I look at my dad and he was an unconvinced facial expression.
"Is that right?" He asks.
I nod my head. "Yep"
"Ben.."
"Yes, dad?"
"What's his name?"
I sigh loudly. "Why does it have to be about a boy, dad? I could actually like football. Just because I'm gay doesn't mean I can't like sports. I like... Volleyball", I reply, earning myself another look from him. "Brookline..that's his name"
I hear a low groan from the bleacher behind me and see Atrix, the boy from my drama class. "You too? Damn...what is it about that boy?", he hops down onto the seat beside me. "Its not your fault. But Brookline is an actual asshole. I'd just rather you not get f*cked over" My mother coughs not so subtly and Atrix smiles and apologises for his language.
"Thanks, really. But its just a harmless half a crush. I don't even really 'like' him" I shrug. "He's just a pretty face who says nice things". He sighs and sits back a little.
"Yeah. And that same boy with the pretty face and nice words is going to be constantly around you for a month. He's good at being what he is, Ben. Be careful, alright?", he replies. I nod quickly. "Okay. Well I gotta go take pictures for the damn news paper. Stay cute" he kisses my cheek before running off.
I put a hand on my cheek and glance at my dad. "My friend Amy said Brookline was a total gentleman. He even charmed her enough to let him stay the night at their house. She trusted him to stay in her daughter Kamryn's room" my mom says, looking down at a magazine.
I raise my eyebrow and look at her. "Kamryns parks?", I ask. She nods and looks at me. "Didn't she have a baby in 8th grade?". She shrugs and looks back down. "Go Amy. Great parenting choices". This earns me a scold from my mom and glance down at the field.
Brookline looked pissed. His angry glare seemed to be aimed at Atrix, who was taking pictures of the crowd. He looked back at the crowd, my area to be exact. He seemed to stare at me before looking back at the team and jogging off.
My dad looked over at me and I glanced at him. "Was that Brookline?", he asks. I nod and turn my attention to the game that was now starting. "He saw that boy with the lip ring kiss your cheek..that's what made him so mad", I roll my eyes and shove his shoulder. "I'm serious!"
The game started and Atrix eventually came back to me. He helped me understand the plays and I found myself really enjoying it. I was really liking how kindly he talked to me and how he smiled when he looked at me. I found myself maybe really liking the punk boy with the BVB tank top on.
