Chapter Eleven

Liam walked up to him where he stood at his locker. With crossed arms, he stood behind him and waited. Sure enough he turned and noticed Liam behind him. "So what are you doing here?"

He raised a sarcastic eyebrow at him. "I thought that would be obvious enough," he quipped gesturing to the textbooks in his locker.

"I meant here at the school," Liam pressed rolling his eyes at Adam's sarcasm. "If my memory serves correctly you're a year older. Shouldn't you have graduated already?"

Hazel eyes met brown as they studied each other. Neither really knew how to proceed. For a pair that barely knew each other there was a lot of history between them. It was clear though. One of them had to make the first move. Now they just had to wait and see whose stubbornness won out first.

Adam blinked breaking the eye contact between them. Liam smirked triumphantly at him and waited patiently. Finally, Adam closed his locker and with hands in his pockets said, "Well if you must know I was expelled last year. I got into some trouble and the school expelled me for it. I was supposed to start here on the first day, but I've been gone the past few months and I only just got back."

"Why were you expelled?" Liam asked genuinely curious.

"Maybe someday I'll tell you," Adam replied with a grim expression. "For now though let's just say I got in a bit of trouble the past few years."

"Right." He nodded. "So what happens now?"

"I don't know. I think first of all we can both agree that trusting Brody in the first place was a mistake on both our parts." Liam agreed with that. "Whether that means we should avoid each other or not though . . . I honestly don't know."

"Or not? As in try to be friends?"

Adam shrugged nonchalantly. "Well the way I see it, if cats and dogs can coincide and get along then why can't we, besides the crap with Brody wasn't my fault and it wasn't your fault. We were both an innocent party who got played by the same jerk. Anyway, it's also been three years so I like to think that I've moved on from him by now. What about you?"

Liam hesitated. He'd also like to say that, but he would be lying if he said he wasn't sure angry with him. "Yeah," he said mostly to appease himself.

"So in my opinion there's nothing to lose," Adam told him.

Liam smiled at Adam's words. "That is true. Its official then? We're going to try and be friends."

"It seems so." The two slowly began to walk away from the lockers and to the school exit. With the threatening silence surrounding them, Adam asked, "This is going to be extremely awkward, isn't it?"

Liam laughed and nodded. "Probably," he admitted, "but as long as we don't date the same guy again we should be okay."

Joining in on his laughter, Adam brought up, "You know technically I did begin dating Brody first."

The two continued to playfully fight as they walked out of the school. This was certain to be a weird friendship, but somehow Liam knew that it would be a good one.

If only my friendship with Chase could be this easy, he thought wishfully.

As they walked out of the school, Liam saw that Liz was already in her car waiting for him. He gave Adam a quick goodbye before jogging over. Liz sent him a curious look as he climbed into the car.

"Who was that?" She jerked her head toward Adam.

"That's Adam," Liam hesitated trying to figure out how exactly to tell her. "Adam is the guy that Brody was seeing while seeing me. . . ."

Her eyes widened. "What?" She demanded. "Why were you talking to him?"

"Because it wasn't his fault or mine. Brody was a jerk who played us both," Liam copied Adam's words. "We've agreed to try and be friends despite our pasts."

"Do you honestly think you can?" Liz wondered.

Liam replied honestly, "I don't know, but it will be fun to find out."

Later that night Liam was in the kitchen getting a snack when he heard a knock on the door. Setting down the chips and salsa he quickly whipped his hands before moving to answer the door. He opened the door and was surprised by the sight before him.

"Chase?" His voice was quiet as he spoke. "What are you doing here?"

Stepping into the house he closed the door behind him and moved to where Liam stood. "Look Liam I'm tired of all this back and forth between us so I am here to lay my cards on the table."

There was a certain determination in Chase's blue eyes that he hadn't seen before. "What are you talking about?" Liam asked him.

"I like you Liam. I mean it, I like you and not as a friend, but more than that. I don't know what it is about you. That first day of school when I saw you I was immediately sucked in and ever since then I have been trying to get you to trust me. Some days you seem fine with that and the possibility of there being more between us, but then you'll close up and honestly it is driving me nuts." Liam smiled slightly at Chase's words.

"I don't mean to be so back and forth," Liam admitted. "That was never my intention and I'm sorry if it seemed that way."

"Then what is it?" Chase wondered. "What's stopping you?"

Liam's heart beat in his chest nervously. He wasn't sure where his thing with Chase was going, and that scared him, although he knew he had to be honest with Chase. He couldn't lie to him forever. Chase deserved the truth.

"First of all I'm basically scared of commitment," Liam entrusted to him. Gesturing to the couch they each sat down before he continued, "My parents divorced when I was fifteen and it had quite the effect on me. A part of me probably won't ever be the same and what they went through genuinely scares me. Also it's hard for me to trust people. I'll be friendly with them, but it'll take a while before I actually trust them with something important. It's mostly those two things but they both have a strong impact on me. I've trusted people in the past and it has backfired on me."

"How bad?" Chase asked him.

Liam replied smartly, "Worse than the Hans reveal in Frozen."

Despite the seriousness of the conversation both of them couldn't help but laugh at the words said. It was one of those moments that will forever be stored in the memory because of how perfect it was.

Grinning, Chase promised, "I swear I will not try and kill you in order to gain your throne and kingdom."

"Thanks," Liam gave a small laugh. Seriously, he asked, "What happens now?"

Smiling slightly Chase leaned toward Liam and pressed their lips together giving him a small kiss. As he pulled away his smile was a tad bigger. "I know you're scared," Chase told him, "In a way I am too. We can't let fear hold us back though. We can go as fast or as slow as you want just as long as you are right there beside me."

Chase was right, he thought to himself. Liam couldn't let his fear control him anymore. It was time to stop running. Chase was trusting him and Liam knew he could meet him halfway.

"I'm not going anywhere," Liam promised in return. Leaning forward the two kissed once again.

Alright everyone we are in the final part of Chasing Liam. It's sad to think that this story is almost done. I have to admit though I am glad I rewrote it. It did need it. Anyway hope you all enjoyed this chapter, and I will try to post the next one soon enough.
