Dear Katie, 

I couldn’t eat. Which is a good thing, I think. Because we’re running out of food. It doesn’t matter anyway, Luca isn’t eating either. The moment the hope was taken from us, our appetite followed soon after. He tries to be okay, I can see it in the way he smiled at me. Like he wanted to show me, wanted to say that he still have hopes, for his family and for you. But I know, I just do, that in his optimistic ‘everything will be fine’ attitude, he’s also scared. Scared that he might never see his family again. We both are.

We’re both scared and broken.
