Chapter 11

BEEP

My head hurts right now.

BEEP

My body aches and I feel like I just got hit by a truck.

BEEP

What is that incessant beeping?!

BEEP

Where am I? The last thing I remember was being with Maddie…

BEEP

And then…

BEEP

JONATHAN!! I opened my eyes and shot up from my laying position like a rocket. I surveyed the room trying to get a grasp on where I was. Where was Maddie?! I looked around the cream colored room. There was light coming from the window to my right and a couch underneath the window. From what I can recall I would say I was in a hospital-type room. Where was Dominik too? I hope he isn’t hurt. I don’t know what I’d do if he was hurt. I know I should be focusing on Maddie, but was it wrong of me to worry about Dominik even more? He is everything to me. I’ve never needed anybody before but I needed him. I needed to know he was ok. I was just about to get out of bed to begin my search for my sister, but suddenly the door on the left side of me opened up and I saw Dominik come barging in. I let out a sigh of relief knowing that I was with him.

“Mather! I’m so happy to see you’re up! You have no idea how much I’ve worried thinking whether you would wake up or not.” He enveloped me in his arm and I felt that sparking sensation I always felt when I made contact with him. I burrowed my nose in his chest for a minute before I let go of him. I still had to look for Maddie.

“I know what you’re thinking. Maddie is all right. I am sure she is being tended by Giovanni as we speak. You need to get back in bed mister. How are you feeling?” Dominik asked with worry in his eyes. I could tell he hasn’t gotten any sleep lately due to the bags under his eyes and he’s lost some weight. How long have I been out?

He helped me get back into bed and I looked into his eyes as I spoke. I was worried because he hasn’t been taking care of himself because of me. “I’m feeling ok. Just tired but I’m ok. How about you? You look like you haven’t slept in days.”

He took a deep breath before he answered. “I’m all right. I’ve just been worried about you. I was scared you were never going to wake up.” His eyes began to tear as he said this.

I was confused. I couldn’t have been out for more than a day or two. But his deposition said otherwise. I asked him fearing for his answer. “How long have I been out?”

He stared into my eyes and gripped my hands into his. The spark instantly reverberated into my bones and I couldn’t help but blush and smile. The things this man does to me, I swear…

“Meine liebe, you’ve been in a coma for a month now.” I was shocked! A whole month! I stayed quiet as he continued to explain. “Jonathan ambushed us when we went to visit Maddie. He bit you and almost sucked you dry. His goons came and attacked us to keep us busy from getting to you but Travis and Tyler was able to free you and Maddie while Giovanni and I took care of his goons. Travis managed to get a hit on Jonathan but he escaped before we could kill him. Maddie, thankfully wasn’t harm except for minor bruises, but you…” He gripped my hand tighter and gave it a kiss before he continued. “You almost died, miene liebe. Your body was almost sucked dry of blood and I thought you were dead. My world shattered when I saw you lie there motionless and I couldn’t do anything.” He finally broke down and I could see the tear come down his cheeks. I pulled him to my bed and hugged him tightly. He took a deep breath and kissed the top of my head.

“Giovanni came up with the idea of doing a blood transfusion using Maddie’s blood. They both saved you meine leibe.” Again he kissed the top of my head. How did Giovanni do a blood transfusion with no equipment? As if he read my mind, he answered that question for me too. Wait can he read my mind?

He let out a soft chuckle. “haha, yes meine liebe. I can hear everything you’re thinking. The mating bond allows us to read each other’s thoughts as if they were our own. With some practice you’ll be able to read my mind too. I just know how to do it because the pack has a similar connection. It’s not a mating bond, more like a pack bond.  I was shocked when your thoughts of me being ok came charging into my head. That’s when I came barging into your room and when I saw you were awake…”

He snuggled into me closer and intertwined our legs together. “I love you Mather. I know I’ve only known you for a short amount of time, but I’ve known I loved you since before I was born. You were made for me Mather. You are my other half and I can’t be full unless I’m with you. I need you so I can breathe. I need you so my heart can beat. I need you so I can live meine liebe.”

I began to tear up as he said this. No one has ever wanted me like this. No one has ever needed me like the way he needed me. I pulled closer to him and I smelled his delicious woodsy scent. There was no question about it. I was in love with him too. I know he can read my thoughts but I wanted to say it to him.

“I love you, Dominik. Ever since my parents died I’d given up on love. I didn’t know what it meant anymore and I was just a shell. Ever since I’ve met you, I felt a pull towards you that I’ve never had before, not even with Maddie. The pull only became stronger when I spent time with you. I was scared though. I didn’t know if you felt the same way. I’m just an ordinary human.” I felt tears drop down onto my hair as I said this.

“You are anything but ordinary meine liebe and don’t ever think otherwise. Not anymore. Yes you’re a human but you were made for me, just like I was made for you.”

Dominik hugged me eve closer, if that was possible. Our bodies pressed together as if it was one. We stayed like this for a while. I wanted to ask how Maddie was but suddenly a knock interrupted us.

“Come in,” Dominik said in his deep and strong voice that only made me shiver and melt into a puddle. I blushed and hid my face from view, how embarrassing! He let out a chuckle and whispered softly, “haha, I love having that effect on you meine liebe. Don’t you ever be embarrassed about that. You have the same effect on me too you know.”

The door opened up and in came an older man. He had greying hair and wore glasses that perched precariously on his nose. He was tall and looks like he was fit and good looking for someone his age. Although he couldn’t compare to my Dominik. Did I just say ‘my Dominik’?! It must be the mating bond, making me all possesive and whatnot. He wore a white gown that fell below his ankle and he had some kind of chart in his hands.

He looked at us both and a huge grin came across his face. I blushed thinking what we must look like! Two men in bed like this. I tried to move away from Dominik but he only held me tighter.

“Don’t even think about trying to get away from me meine liebe. I could give two crap what other people think about our relationship and if they have a problem with it, well they can answer to me. Isn’t that right doctor?”

The doctor let out a soft chuckle. “Yes Alpha Dominik, although I’m against people dying so I’m going to try to save them when you try to kill them.” Dominik stuck out his tongue and continued to snuggle closer to me. I swear I heard him purring as he breathed in my smell.

The good doctor merely rolled his eyes. I guess Dominik’s childish antics are nothing new to the doctor. He looked me and began to introduce himself. “I’m glad to see you have woken up. My name is Dr. Ross Wheelen. Let’s start your checkup, shall we? I want to make sure all your vital signs are normal. Now Alpha Dominik I need you to let go of Alpha Mather please so I can begin.” Dominik reluctantly agreed and I couldn’t help but feel disappointed at not being in his arms anymore.

“Don’t worry it’s just a quick check up. You guys can go back to your canoodling after,” the doctor said. I tried to suppress my smile and Dominik merely laughed loudly at the doctor’s comment.

After all the probing, tongue being stuck out, light shined into my eyes, and more probing I was done. Dr. Wheelen gave me a clean bill of health, but he wants me to stay one more day just to make sure. He left the room and as soon as he was gone, Dominik was by my side again.

We watched tv for a while but I was getting restless to get out of bed and stretch my sore muscles. After much convincing and bargaining with Dominik we finally decided to walk around the pack ground. I got dressed in some clothes while Dominik waited for me. I wanted to see Maddie too. I wonder if I can borrow his phone so I can call her.

We got out of the room and went downstairs. “Hey Dominik, where are we?”

“Well meine liebe, we are at the pack’s hospital facility. It’s staffed pretty well and we’ve got a couple of doctors that are able to heal us with whatever problem we have. But we don’t really need it much since our werewolf blood allows us to heal fast. But it’s good to just have in, just in case something happened.” I caught some sadness in his tone as he said the last words, but it was gone as fast as it came.

“You can’t do that, ok. You can’t hide your feelings for me. We need to be able to tell each other what we are thinking, no matter what it is, ok Dominik?”

He looked into my eyes and pulled me into a hug before agreeing.

“I will, I give you my word. Now meine liebe, you’re probably wondering how Maddie is. She is fine I can assure you that. She and Giovanni have been staying with us while you’ve been in your coma.”

That was weird. If she’s been here why didn’t she come sooner?

“The reason why is…well you can just see for yourself ok, but please just keep an open mind ok?”

I was confused at what he was saying but I agreed nonetheless.

He guided me out of the room and down the stairs to the first floor. I spotted pack memebrs going about their business but also some vampires among the group. I guess since Maddie and Giovanni are here, they had some coven members with them too. We stepped outside and I was greeted by the sun. Man it felt good to feel the sun’s warmth after all this time. The cold was no longer there but rather spring breeze filled the air. 

I surveyed the grounds and saw the pack members going on their daily routine. Vampires were also amongts them. I did a double take on two figures that were standing across from us. It was Maddie. But there was something different about her. She was pale and she was looking down at the ground.

I ran up to her and shouted her name. She looked up at me and I stopped dead in my tracks. Staring back at me were the same pair of blue eyes. There was something different though. They weren’t blue like mine anymore. They were blue like the person standing next to her. Blue like Giovanni’s. Blue like a vampire’s.
