I woke up to the soft snoring of Willow asleep in her bed next to me, the ends of her light pink hair tickling my nose. The clock on the bedside table next to me read 9am. Its too early for this. Light filled the pastel colour themed room and made my head scream in pain.
It's funny how much Willow loves pastel colours, though. I don't think I've ever met a human more passionate about something. We always joke about her being a fairy in her past life considering she dresses exactly like one. Her features resemble them quite well, actually. She has a small button nose with full lips and freckles scattering her heart shaped face, sharp cheekbones, her kind eyes grey like mine. She even has a pointed ears. We were about 12 when I made the revelation of her resembling a fairy, Willow immediately fell in love with this whole idea and begged her mom to let her dye her hair pink and make her bedroom like a rainbow pastel.
Waking up next to her in this room was nothing new, we had been best friends since the age of nine so sleepovers were a regular weekend routine, she's basically my sis- never mind. But as for the massive hangover I had? That thankfully was not part of the routine. I looked down at my clothes in confusion, not recognizing who owned them. I assume Willow must have brought me back to her house at some point last night and changed me into her dads grey sweats and blue t-shirt, knowing my mom would kick my ass to the curb if she ever found out I was drunk. Man we've sure grown up since we we're 12.
I racked my brain for any memories of last night but non revealed themselves. Reluctantly, I got out of Willow's baby blue sheets and head downstairs to the kitchen for some Advil and a glass of water to help with the pounding in my head which intensified after every step I took.
"Goodmorning Sweetie!", I jumped when my head whipped around to find Willow's moms kind face staring up at me sitting at the marble island with her cup of coffee, reading the newspaper. "Sorry! Did I scare you a bit there honey?", she asked, looking up to see the shock in my face.
"Heh, uh yea I just wasn't expecting you to be up so early that's all.", I said, hoping she couldn't tell how hungover I was. I mean, the prominent heavy bags under my eyes and strained voice were definitely enough to give it away.
"Well you know me, always have to read the morning news before starting off my day!", Mrs. Dolton said while waving around the paper in her hand.
"Mom I swear you are the only thing keeping the newspaper in business, it's 2019 not a single soul reads it!", Willow exclaimed appearing in the door way of the kitchen in her black sweats and oversized light green shirt.
Mrs. Dolton scoffed and sipped her coffee while shooting a glare at her daughter. I awkwardly laughed before asking for some Advil and water.
"Had too much fun last night I see?", she gave me a knowing look before getting up and grabbing a bottle from the cupboard behind her, handing it to me. I immediately chugged down a glass of water taking two of the small pills.
I liked Willow's mom. Unlike mine she was kind and caring and always let you speak your mind before jumping to any conclusions. Sometimes I wish I could move into this house with her. The sleek modern kitchen and cozy living area made me feel like I was in a real home, not some old worn down apartment that gave off a constant vibe of sadness and dread. Willow's family was the one everyone strives for. Her parents owned a successful business which meant they were pretty comfortable with their money and could afford luxury's I never knew people in our town could have. Hell their house is a mansion! And they loved to spoil their only child with all sorts of goodies. Those are one of the perks of being friends with Willow, let's just say she gives awesome birthday gifts. Even though they all tell me I am their family, I often find myself daydreaming of truly being apart of them. They all have so much love for each other. I wish I could say the same about mine.
"Ace come on let's go back upstairs, I bought the newest COD last night in a spur of the moment and I'm dying to play it!", Willow said interrupting my train of thought. That's one of the reasons I like Willow so much, she's sorta geeky and not afraid to show it. The day the most recent Modern Warfare came out she screamed all day in school over how much she loved it, not giving a fuck about everyone eyeing her like she was mentally insane. Don't get me wrong she's an awesome badass, but I could never imagine myself dating her, so don't even think about it.
"Sure but can you let me get a quick shower first? I sort of feel like shit.", Mrs. Dolton snorted as I stated this, giving me the Oh I've been there look she always does.
"Kk just come on up to my room whenever you're done. Towels are where they always are and you can just take some of my dads clothes, he's on a business trip.", Willow said while walking upstairs. I muttered a quick thanks before heading to their linen closet to collect the towel then made my way to the bathroom. I've spent a good part of my life in this house but I still find it awkward using their things, it all seems too... fancy for me, I guess. Everything has their last name stitched onto it, from the face cloths to the plush guest robes they have in the washroom.
After getting my shower I wrapped a fuzzy burgundy towel around my waist and looked in the mirror for the first time today. Five dark welts lined my neck down my chest and the memories of last night came flooding back.
"Willow!?", I yelled, desperate to find her and be saved from this awful feeling in my head. I've never drank this much before and i was certainly over the level of being buzzed. After entering the party I lost track of my best friend and ended up being coaxed into downing some shots and drinking three cans of beer. I heard ringing in my ears as i pushed through sweaty, dancing bodies and up the stairs of Casey Write's house into a dimly lit hallway. As I struggled to keep my balance I slammed straight into someone's rock hard chest.
"Watch where you're going asshole!", someone yelled at me as I jumped back in embarrassment.
"S-ss-sorry!", I stammered, trying to push past the tall dark figure only to trip over myself and fall down on top of the boy I banged into seconds ago.
"Ow- shit that hurt dude.", I heard the boy mumble.
Trying to regain my composure I sat up off of him onto the floor scooting back, awkwardly scratching the nape of my neck and apologizing over and over again as I realized who I fell onto.
"It's okay Ace, we're all a little bit drunk.", Charlie Simmons chuckled while standing up and extending a hand out to me.
I couldn't believe it! One of the most popular guys in school was being nice to me? A nobody? And he knew my name? This was fucked up. How did he know my name? Why the fuck wasn't he beating me up?
I hesitantly took Charlie's hand as he helped me to my feet, his touch lingering just a bit longer than it should've. He quickly retracted his gesture as both our faces began to blush and before I knew it Charlie fucking Simmons whispered my name, tilting my chin up to his and leaning in to kiss me... and i kissed him back.
