(Vic's POV)

I pull Kellin into the house and put a finger over my lips so he knows to be quiet. Mike is in the kitchen and when he sees me and the dark haired boy behind me, he rolls his eyes and opens the fridge. "My room," I whisper, then lead him to the stairs. We head up quietly, keeping our steps light on the clean wood of the staircase.

When I shut the door, I feel his hand go to my waist, but I step back and shake my head. "Not yet," I sigh and put my hands on my hips. He grimaces at me and chuckles, raising an eyebrow. "I have a plan, and I don't know how you're going to take it, but I need you to answer." Bringing the inside of my cheek between my teeth, I watch for a response.

"Explain," he offers.

I take a long breath and then sigh it out, looking at the floor, all previous confidence gone. This is bad idea, fuck it. Then I shake my head and wipe my already watery eyes. Kellin steps closer and brushes his fingers over my arm. I sigh and shake my head again, then look up at him. I ignore the thought of how he'd react if he saw how the underside of this arm looked. "Okay, so you know my mom is sick," I start. He nods. "She's gotten worse. And I don't know what you'll think of this but in a way-- in a way--" my throat tightens and I pause, then try again. "In a way, I want you to meet her. You know, before it's too late."

He raises his eyebrows and looks me over, like I might be lying. "Really?" He asks in a low voice. I nod and step closer, finally allowing him to pull me into a warm hug. My eyes immediately shut and sighing, I tighten my arms around him, feeling closer to home than I had in a while. "I think she'd like you. I'd feel bad if I didn't tell her, you know?" I try to explain. He nods, his chin brushing over the top of my head. He places a kiss there and I sigh, pulling away.

"Can we go ahead? Then we can hang out until whenever." My voice cracks. He nods and pushes a piece of my hear out of my face before leading us out.

_____

(Kellin's POV)

I've never been so scared in my life.

I was going to meet Vic's mom, the woman he cried for and hurt for every night, the woman who raised him and then faded so she could no longer do so, his favorite person in the world; I was meeting her. If that wasn't nerve wracking, I didn't know what was. He pushes the door open and I'm met with the scent of candles. The woman I soon caught sight of was something that made my heart sink.

Her skin was pale, cheeks sunken, and skin dry from sickness. Despite her dreary appearance, she sends us a warm smile. She must not know who I am. Maybe she won't be mad? She seems sweet. "Mama," Vic says, lowering so he's on his knees by the bed. My heart wrenched as he took her hand in his. He was so gentle with her, so much affection written in his expression. Her eyes fluttered over to him and he sighed."I want you to meet someone."

I get next to Vic and slowly make my way down so I'm on my knees as well. "You're t-the Bostwick boy, yes?" She says hoarsely. My face drains as I nod slowly, glancing at Vic, who looks just as puzzled. The woman chuckles at our expressions and let's out a weak breath. Her chest rises and falls with a sad tremble. "I'm Kellin," I say with a wavering voice. She pulls her hand away and reaches it towards me, and I shake her hand.

"Nice to meet you after so long, Kellin," I tilt my head, as does Vic. She knew? That must mean she knew. There was no other explanation for her knowledge. "I see you run across the yard," she chuckles, then coughs a couple times. My face heats up and I lower my head. My heart twists when I feel her raise my chin. "I also see how well you treat my Vic. A-And he's the most important thing to me," Vic sniffles next to me, but I know not to turn away from his mom.

"I can't thank you enough," she breathes, smiling at me with watery eyes. My heart is attacking my chest right now but there's nothing I can do. "Vic is always there for me and it's c-comforting to see someone there for him like that." As a couple tears stride down my face, I chew on my lip and breath uneasily. How was Vic blessed with her as a mom?

She smiles warmly at me. "Thank you, Kellin."

With that, I nod a little at her and smile, and she drops her hand. Vic had his arms sprawled over her lap and his head resting on her, sniffling every now and then. I rub his back and he sighs, seeming to ease up. "Thank you." He murmurs. The sickly woman ruffles his hair and I smile, my heart swelling from the sight of them. He really was going to miss her. I know times are going to get hard when she passes away. I tried not to think about it right now.

_____

I trailed my hand up and down Vic's back, eyes fluttering sleepily. He nudges his head against my chest as he shifts, trying to snuggle closer. I smile slightly, pulling the covers higher around us. His hands clench my red and black flannel, breaths heavy in sleepiness against me. He was so adorable when he was tired. "Thanks." He says lazily, letting his syllables fumble together. I hum a response and kiss the top of his head, shutting my eyes again.

He shifts again, and I don't think much of it, but my eyes shoot open when I feel his lips press to mine. He grins when he feels my surprise, but then I relax into it. We pull away, pausing to get more comfortable so he's between my legs, and then reconnect our lips. I let my hand tangle in his curls while my other hand stays in the small of his back.

We pull away to get air and he sinks down so our chests our together, his arms resting around my waist. He lays his head on my collar bones so his hair tickles under my chin and I tighten my arms around his middle. He was so little and it was the cutest thing I've experienced in a while. "Goodnight." He whispers. "Night, Viccy." I say with a grin, tracing my thumbs over his back.

I couldn't smile harder if I tried.

_____

When eleven o'clock rolls around, I tell Vic that I needed to go. Even though we were both reluctant, he allows me to stand and grab my shoes. After I slip them on, I shuffle back to the bed and place a kiss on his forehead, pressing my palms into the bed. "Bye." I say against his lips. He smiles slightly and traces a finger over my cheek. "Bye." He replies. I peck his lips and nudge my nose with his, then stand and exit the room, glancing back at him with a small smile before shutting the door.

I peak into his mom's room and say goodbye to her as well, and she says the same, in a weaker voice. I smile in satisfactory and then saunter down the stairs as quietly and quickly as possible. "You haven't left yet?" I hear from in front of me. It's dark though, so I have a hard time determining who it is. A lamp flicks on next to the couch and his brother is there, looking confused. He pauses the TV and puts his attention on me.

"Are you just now leaving or what?" He asks bluntly, like he's annoyed with me. My cheeks flush and I step back a little, fiddling with my hands. "Yes." I say quietly. He doesn't skip a beat, "You guys probably banged then. Isn't that wonderful." I feel my face deepen in a shade of red, but I answer anyway. "No, we didn't." I murmur. "How do I know for sure?" He asks, cutting his eyes at me. "Did you hear anything?" It was my turn to ask questions.

"Guess not." He shrugs, then goes back to the television, which is displaying a gardening channel. Gardening? The boy in front of me didn't seem like the type, but then again, I guess you never know. I scurry for the door and twist the knob but his voice stops me. "Be good to him." He calls. I gulp and turn to glance at him, then open the door. "I will." And then I leave so I'm not home too late.

Mom is probably already freaking out most likely, and there's no need to make it worse.

When I open the door, I'm bombarded, like I assume I would be. "Kellin, where have you been? Are you hurt?" My mother walks towards me, looking worried and distraught. "I'm fine." I say quietly. "Where were you, Kellin?" She asks again.

"You know," I say, picking at the fabric of my ripped black jeans. "Running again. I went for another run." I shrug. She pauses, examines me, then shakes her head. "Stupid idea, Kellin. Are you hungry?"

I shake my head and she raises her eyebrows. She might've thought I was crazy. Thought I was dumb. Thought I was high on every drug known to man. But she'd be wrong. When my smile widened at the thought of where I had just been, snuggled up to Vic Fuentes, at the thought of how his lips felt on mine, it wasn't because of any of those things. It was because I was in love.

And this time, it wasn't forced. It wasn't part of a fucking routine or schedule. It was how it was supposed to be, a mistake and unplanned, but real. I was in love.
