Lucas woke up with two arms securely around his waist and an awkward morning boner.
His back was plastered to a sweaty chest and his hair was damp from the hot air-and probably drool-from where William had his face pressed to the back of his head.
The sun was leaking through the crack in the curtains and heating the room up like an oven but that didn't seem to be bothering William in the slightest because when Lucas tried to shift away, is friend only nuzzled in closer.
And then after a moment of lying there, wondering what to do, William let out a soft little sigh and his grip loosened. Just as Lucas was about to roll away, William's palm slipped lower down Lucas' belly, dangerously close to the elastic band on his pj's and what lay beneath.
Lucas froze rigidly, all the way up until he realized that William's hand wasn't stopping in its quest downward.
Lucas sat up with an awkward squeak, shoving William's hands away and clutching the blankets to himself like a shield.
"What are you doing?!" he demanded.
All the commotion finally woke William up.
"Hm?" he breathed, blinking his blue eyes up at Lucas blearily. When Lucas only stared down at him dumbly, a silly smile fell onto William's face.
"Morning," he said in a heavy, sleepy voice. His fingers magically found the ticklish spots on Lucas' back and traced against them, making him instantly shiver before, a moment later, his hand was gone as he stretched out. "How long have you been up?"
"Just a few minutes," Lucas said.
God this was awkward. Why did he feel so awkward?
William's goofy smile slowly slipped all the way down into a frown.
"What's wrong?" he asked. His voice sounded uneasy and worried and Lucas wanted the smile back immediately.
"Nothing!" Lucas cringed at the volume of his voice and tried again. "I'm totally fine."
His voice rose to an uncomfortable pitch at the end and he winced. Why was he thinking about last night? He'd decided to brush it off but--
William's eyes narrowed suspiciously.
Shit. He couldn't remember what he'd dreamed about exactly but something hot and sticky and related to the way they'd been curled around each other jumped into Lucas' mind and his eyes widened.
"Um."
He tried to come up with a valid excuse before he clambered over William and fell off the bed, but nothing came to mind so he laid on the floor spread eagle for a moment, without an explanation, before remembering how thin his pajamas were and how hard he was. Lucas rolled away with a shout, hoping that William hadn't noticed it.
He made it to the washroom and slammed the door shut behind him, plastering himself against the back of it as though he was being chased.
"Shit!"
He clamped a hand over his mouth, aware that William could probably hear him.
Lucas glanced at himself in the mirror, uneasily taking in his flushed skin and wannabe fro. Not to mention the utter disgrace of dried drool down his chin.
God, he was disgusting. How was it that William had even stomached kissing him? Lord knew he was one of the very few who would ever give it a try.
With a sigh, Lucas ran the cold water. He scrubbed his face down and attempted to flatten down his hair as much as possible before deciding to brave the bedroom again.
William wasn't there.
Lucas found his friend dressed and looking refreshed and the way he always looked; ready for a photo shoot. He had the fridge propped open and was leaning against the freezer as he bent easily to look into the empty fridge. For the first time that Lucas had ever seen, William's hair was not styled and the loose strands hung artfully around his face--which was set in an irritated frown.
"What do you eat?" William said by way of greeting.
He glanced at Lucas expectantly.
Lucas shrugged.
"Whatever you bring for lunch?"
William stared at him blankly and Lucas had the distinct impression that it was the wrong answer.
He laughed loudly.
"Just joking," he said. "Look, I have these!" He pulled a bag of rice cakes out of the cupboard frantically. "They're like two bucks for a whole bag. I usually have them for breakfast. Do you want one?"
William continued to stare at him.
Needing an excuse to look away, Lucas reached into the bag and pulled one out. Normally, he put peanut butter on top at the very least, but with William staring at him like he'd grown another head, all Lucas could manage was to take a bite of the dry cardboard like thing and chew.
William shut the fridge and marched up to him, snatching the rice cake out of his hand like he was being crazy.
"What? It's good," he lied.
"Why are you being so weird? Is it about last night?" William asked bluntly.
"What? No! I'm fine with that. Nothing even happened. What are you talking about?"
Oh great, now he was sweating. Hopefully William didn't notice it.
William raked his face with those piercing blues. Lucas felt the temperature go up another notch when William's eyes landed his lips. For a second he thought William was going to kiss him again. For a split second Lucas thought maybe he wanted him to. He looked at William's soft pink lips and knew exactly what they would feel like. His heart rate skyrocketed and then he glanced up and realized that William was no longer looking at his lips, but at his eyes.
"This isn't because we kissed?" William asked gently.
Lucas attempted with all his might to return to reality. Oh reality; the place where his friends--although they cared--took perverse pleasure in humiliating him. It was a place where people would do whatever they could think of to see Lucas' loud, over the top reactions. Where he was never taken seriously and where people only ever kissed him or touched him when they were dared to.
The only problem being that any other time this had happened, it had never really gotten to Lucas in the same way. He had felt nothing but disgust that time that Alex had managed to corner him and plaster drunken kisses all over him, and when he and Grace had paired up during spin the bottle once--even though they'd fallen asleep spooning later that night--he hadn't had any weird wet-dreams about it. Hell, even Blake had asked him out once and after the initial eye rolling response he'd given, he'd forgotten all about it.
But William, well, he was a different kind of friend and it had actually felt really nice laying there all warm and together. Which was really annoying come to think of it. He thought William was different.
"I'm only human, you know," he said, surprised by the hot tone of his voice. "It's not fair to lead people on."
William's brows shot up.
"What?"
Lucas crossed his arms protectively over his chest. Anger was definitely better than the nerves he'd been battling all morning.
"You shouldn't lead people on," he repeated.
After a long moment, staring straight into him, the way he did, William nodded.
"You're right," he said finally.
Before Lucas could find a response, a shy smile slipped onto William's face and he looked away.
"You said you'd go to the restaurant with me," he said finally. "Let's go now. We can get something good."
"Really?" Lucas asked. He felt a little like he was on a roller coaster, unable to keep track of the swing of his emotions. But William was smiling at him all warmly again and Lucas found that everything else didn't seem as important.
"Okay," he said.
