Chapter 1: Finn's Dilemma

Finn's POV

Transferring into Lancaster High School just last year was one of the hardest, at the same time, newest experience for me. I was like a lost puppy with nowhere to go, everything was so new and different compared to what I was used to.

The reason for my sudden change of school, well, I had no choice but to move locations with my family because my parents managed to snag a job and a house offer in the states. All my life, I've lived in a pretty average environment. More commonly, I had to hold back myself with what things I want and what I want to do because we needed to save up. Yeah, I had rich grandparents but they chose not to give us too much. They didn't want my parents to only depend on their money to raise me so in a way, they're sort of helping us and I admire them. But now, my parents have found their footing and we were finally able to move into our own place just before I went to high school.

Ever since we moved, everything changed. The snobby neighbors I was used to were replaced with friendly smiles and greetings every time I took a walk. The crappy apartment that myself, my dad and my mom were staying in was replaced with a very spacious house, the bathroom was even bigger than my previous room. And what changed the most was school. It was easier to get A's in Lancaster than back when I was in my last school, and although my previous school had so much crappy students, it was easier to make friends with people... unlike in my new school. It took me TWO whole months to have a full, proper conversation with a fellow student, and it was about a rumor of a guy drinking out of a trash can.

Oh, that's another thing.

Why was there so much drama compared to my previous school? God, don't even get me started with how people are so fazed by the whole popular thing like what I see in movies. I just have so much questions. How is somebody wearing the same thing as someone else such a "daring" move? Why did the relationship of somebody mattered to everyone? Why were rumors so fed and so easily believed in this school? And the most frustrating one yet. Why does reputation matter?

Well, anyway, enough about babbling the stupidest nonsense. One of the highlights of moving into my new school was meeting Heather. Heather is probably the nicest human being I have ever met, and I've met my parents so that's really saying something. Heather has been a life changer ever since I got here, she's helped me more than anyone in my life.

I still remember our conversation like it was just last month. The way we met... was not the most ideal but I guess it was one of the prime examples of the saying 'everything happens for a reason'.

Heather was being bullied in an empty hallway by some jock that was already known for degrading other people for literally the most absurd reasons.

"If you don't give me your homework. I'll make you wish you were never born." The jock said as he cornered a terrified Heather.

"I already told you a hundred times, Chad, I lost mine just today. How hard is it for you to understand that?!" Heather clapped back as her shaking hands hugged her textbooks closer to her chest.

"Hey, shithead. If you don't leave her alone, I'll spread a rumor you have STD, which is probably not far from the truth." I threatened which automatically made Chad back down, his eyes going wide as he stumbles back from Heather.

"Oh really? You don't scare me, dumbass!" Chad weakly insulted as if he really did something besides making a fool out of himself.

"Wasn't trying to. The only thing scary here is how you're proving that America's next generation will be a failure, run along now before I actually do what I said earlier."

He gave Heather and I each a death glare before huffing and waking down the corridor. I felt someone grab my arm and I was ready to punch whoever dared to touch me when I just saw it's my soon to be BFF.

"Oh my god, that was amazing. I've never seen someone stand up to someone like Chad." Heather said as she picked up her belongings that have somehow fallen from her hold.

I scoffed in disbelief as I turn to her. "Really? With his peanut-sized brain, I would've assumed everyone would've been able to stand up to him."

To my surprise at the time, Heather throws back an amused laugh, wiping at the corners of her eyes. "You're pretty witty, huh?"

I shrugged nonchalantly, trying to wave the compliment away but mumbling a silent 'thanks' in gratitude and from that day on, we became best friends. Yeah, she was still bothered by some no-life dumbasses but I'm able to protect her as much as I could. I get pushed around lockers occasionally and Chad was one that really made my life a living hell. He sent me to the nurse five times in the course of two years already. I can't even imagine the reaction I would get when I come out.

Oh, have I mentioned?

I'm gay.

Yes, the unholy, totally illegal act of being attracted to the same gender.

Fortunately, I didn't have to go through an identity crisis because I came out of the closet the same time I came out of my mother's cooch. I also had the privilege of being accepted by my family with open arms, only a small part of the reason why I love my family.

I pushed all my thoughts aside as my alarm clock finally let out the sound I will forever loathe. I usually wake up before my alarm and I would spend my mornings just thinking about things and making up ridiculous scenarios.

I shut off my alarm and threw the blankets off of my body, the dust from the blanket flying in the sunshine that was peeking through my blinds.

I yawned as I stretched my arms up, that familiar and welcomed tingling coursing through my body. After making the bed- which is something I rarely do, I just felt like doing it today- I grabbed my phone and went downstairs and into the kitchen. My dad was sitting on one the island chair, a mug of coffee in one hand while staring at the screen of his laptop.

"Good Morning, dad." I muttered sleepily as I took the chair beside him.

"Good Morning my sperm." My dad joked before bursting out of laughter, wheezing at his pathetic joke that he makes on an occasional basis.

"DAD." I whined in annoyance before shaking my head.

After my dad controlled his laughter, he motioned at the plate of goodness in front of me, he then went back on typing in his computer. I started devouring the bacon, eggs and fried rice then after I finished, I started my morning routine which is taking a shower, brushing my teeth and getting dressed, nothing special.

After showering, I got dressed in a white shirt and a light olive jacket to partner it with. I kept it simple with some blue jeans and white shoes. I looked at the mirror, two brown orbs looking back at me as I took a much needed, deep breath.

School didn't usually make me nervous but today was different. I don't know what in particular I'm nervous of but there were days like these, and it's really weird, not gonna lie. There's days when I'm perfectly fine and then there are days where I'm super jumpy, my skin is all cold and tingly and I can't focus well. I couldn't explain the feeling, it was indescribable and I wish it wasn't then maybe I can just research about it.

Maybe it was that blond boy that I was ecstatic to see. The king of the school and basically the hottest guy in school, Oliver Hunt. Just the thought of him made my eyes roll on their own. He was this little perfect guy that everyone dreams being with and that guy who gets all the girls that he wants. It doesn't matter if you're a guy or a girl, you will fall in love with him... And I'm unfortunately one of those stupid idiots.

I brushed away the though and finished getting ready and head downstairs to see my dad just walk out the door, whistling as he spun the ring of keys in his index finger.

"Bye Moooooom." I said as a quick goodbye before leaving the house and getting on my dad's red car, I don't know what it was called, I think it's a Lexus or a Mercedes but it's a cool looking car.

Just as my dad started driving, I turned on the radio and 'Best Song Ever' by One Direction started playing. A low grunt escaped past my lips as the chorus started.

"And we danced all night to the best song ever. We knew every line, now I can't remember."

"I beg to differ." I whispered under my breath but judging by the chuckle from my dad, he heard it.

"Why are you so against that boy band. They're talented beings! Like you." He said with humor but I just shook my head.

"It's not like I don't like them or anything like that. It's just that their songs are so overplayed and they sound like they're made for 13 year old girls from 2013- they probably are." I explained as I watched the scenery outside blur.

My dad let out a chuckle again before switching stations and this time, '7 Rings' by Ariana Grande came on and I immediately perked up.

"Breakfast at Tiffany's and bottles of bubbles. Girls with tattoos who like getting in trouble."

"This. This is what I like." I said with a grin before singing along as my dad threw his head back to laugh.

A few minutes of singing and driving, I got out of the car, staring up at the school, imagining that it was burning in my mind, I mean, we all want our schools burned down... right?

I sighed just as my dad's arms wrapped around my shoulder.

"Alright, go in there and kick some ass." My dad joked as he pulled me towards him.

I rolled my eyes playfully at him. "It think it's gonna be me who's getting my butt kicked. And you always act like it's the first day of school."

"Because somehow, it kind of is. I mean, you can never guarantee every day's gonna be a 'normal day', can you?"

I whined in annoyance. "Why do you always make sense."

He chuckled at that, ruffling my hair that I worked so hard on to look natural.

"Because if I wasn't, I wouldn't have been able to raise you properly." He said with that fatherly smile he always gave me, a twinkle of pride in his eyes.

That was one of the things that motivated me to strive better, my parents are so proud of how I've become, all of my abilities, everything that I am today and I honestly am still wondering how a person can be so proud of someone like how they are towards me. They were the best and I feel like I have to be someone they wanted me to be. My mom and dad haven't been vocal about what they expect me to be and that they just want me to fulfill my dreams, but I know one wrong move and that could all change.

I sighed as I played with the straps of my backpack, feeling the weight of it on my shoulders just like the pressure I put on myself.

My dad must have noticed how tensed I am because he gave my arm a gentle squeeze.

"Now, you should go before you're late. Be safe and don't do anything I wouldn't do. Love you, kiddo." He said, smiling at me.

I returned his smile and nodded. "I love you too, dad."

He got into his car and waved a goodbye before starting the car. I watched his car drive away wistfully until I felt a pair of hands cover my eyes and I immediately knew who it was judging by the fruity smell of her perfume.

I turned around and there she was, standing as her wavy, blonde hair gently blew in the wind and her blue eyes twinkled.

"Where've you been, I've been waiting for you." She said quietly as we started our walk towards the entrance.

I gave her a sheepish smile. "Kinda had a moment with dad, sorry for the wait."

She shook her head. "It's fine, I'm glad you get along with your dad, he's literally the nicest human being I've met."

"Excuse you, miss." I joked.

I joked, but I was serious. Heather has helped me so much, I can't even explain it. She helped me last year when my pet died and I was so miserable, I didn't even want to move. She covered for me in school and even did some of my homework. She came over to my house and we dissected the movie 'Mean Girls' even after we've watched it six million times already while eating two tubs of ice-cream.

She also helped me get out of a prank that could've seriously made me a laughing stock of the school. There were these jocks (Chad included) that forced me to speak in front of the whole school and Heather had just warned me in time for me to dodge the bucket of kool-aid that was supposed to pour on me. Chad and the jocks got suspended which just fueled the fire between us more.

Oh, and there was a time Heather set up a date between me and this kid that we thought was gay and liked me but guess what, he was straight and had a girlfriend and that he sees me as a 'friend'. He moved states because his mother had cancer.

Overall, Heather needs to be protected at all cost and deserves all the love.

I snapped out of my thoughts as we reached our lockers. I got out the textbook needed for the first subject before the sound of girls squealing and screaming flooded the hall. I closed my locker to look at the cause of the commotion to see the King of the school.

Oliver Hunt.

My heart leapt in my chest as I looked him up and down. He looked so handsome in his blue jersey that he always wore and his T-shirt that hugged his muscular body, even boys won't be able to resist this guy.

Man, I wish I was one of the popular kids so that I could be able to hang out with him and speak to him. In the two whole years I've shared a school with the guy, I have never muttered a word to him. I have no idea why but the universe really likes to give me the worst treatment and test my patience. I mean, damn, tone down the favoritism.

I rubbed my temples to relieve the headache I was getting from all the annoying squeals and screams of these idiots.

Do they really think they have a chance with Oliver?

Well, thinking about it. Oliver is a guy who's known to be flirty and... well, messy and he's probably slept with half the girls in this school. So, yeah, these girls have a chance with him.

I rolled my eyes at the thought and opened my locker again to sort out my stuff.

. . .

I walked through the halls and into the cafeteria along side Heather. My mom insisted on making my lunch while Heather had her own. As we sat down, Heather looked at me in horror while patting her jeans.

"What?" I asked, suddenly becoming conscious.

Did someone stick a 'kick me' behind my back again? Did I have sharpie drawings on my face.

"My phone's not in my pocket."

"Oh, maybe in your bag-"

"No, no, I think I left it in the classroom. I'll be right back." She said before leaving me alone on the table. I shrugged and started on my meal.

As I was peacefully eating, the sound of chatter and whispering suddenly became louder than usual and I looked up in curiosity to find out why but saw nothing special... And then I felt a presence beside me.

I turned to look at who it was, ready to bark at them and I got the surprise of my life. Low and behold, The King himself, Oliver Hunt had his head resting on his fist, looking at me like a piece of meat.

I looked around and found various of stares, amazement, shock, confusion, jealousy and rage. I didn't like all the attention on me and it was because of the guy just inches in front of me.

I looked back and raised a brow at him, trying to look casual but damn, inside, my heart is in my ass and it's beating so fast. I'm about to dance to 'Break Free' and I'm just waiting for someone to play it.

'Like 'Break Free' from here 'cause I hate attention and I'll probably scratch out his eyes!'

My heart was beating so fucking fast that I thought it was gonna come out of my ass any second. Damn did this boy have so much effect on me,

"Finn Vasco." He said like he was announcing it and oh my God, my name sounded so damn hot coming out of his mouth.

My self control was at its finest. I controlled my emotions and matched his stare, looking as nonchalant as possible. I don't know how I did it but I'm just glad I wasn't shitting my pants. Because the very same guy that I've had a crush on is right in front of me. Just very randomly sitting like he didn't wield the power to make everyone kneel... well I know he doesn't, but to me?.. He probably didn't either, I was just exaggerating.

"What." I stated dryly, less like a question.

He smirked, running a hand through his blond hair. Just the simple action made my stomach turn. "Are you free after school by any chance?"

"And how is that any of your business?" I clapped back.

He chuckled. "Because, wise man, I want to hang out with you." He said which caused everyone to lose their minds, some people were muttering in confusion, some were sulking and some were... crying?

Seems like my dad was right today. This was not gonna be a normal school day.

(just to clarify, I absolutely love One Direction, just when I was thinking of an "annoying song" to use an example, it was the first thing that came into my mind LMAO)
