“So you’ve never been to school?” Rowan asked, clarifying and repeating what I had just said. “How come you can read? And I’ve seen you helping the kids with homework, so...” he trailed off and broke eye contact with me, embarrassed by his actions of questioning my intelligence.

I chuckled. “A lifetime of doing your brother’s homework and assignments doesn’t amount to nothing, you know.”

Rowan nodded. “I guess that’s kind of handy,” he said. “Although it’s also pretty mean.” The room was silent before Rowan had an idea. “How about you attend senior year at the high school in town,” he suggested.

My eyes grew wide as a happy flush crept onto my face. “Seriously?” Then I frowned. “I’ve never had any interaction with humans before,” I said, looking up at Rowan. “Are you sure?”

He nodded again. Rowan’s arms circled around me in a hug. “You’ll be fine, I promise,” he whispered. “I’ll be your own personal chauffer there and back. I’ll be there to pick you up and drop you off. If you need help with anything or there’s something you don’t understand, I’ll definitely help you.”

I smiled and hugged back, kissing his chest. “Thank you,” I said.
