*Micah's POV*
I walk into school late this fine Tuesday morning and see Josh, Nick, Gabby, and Thayer at my locker. They are all laughing and smiling. I saw Thayer's car in the parking lot, he didn't even bother picking me up. I checked my phone for the time, it wasn't worth it because the bell rang making it 8:30. Everyone left my locker except Thayer.
"Morning," He greeted me. He had a huge smile on his face, almost looking forced.
"Morning," I reply, throwing in my backpack into the locker and taking my jacket off. Thayer's hand stopped my jacket just before it left my arm.
"What's wrong?" He asked, concerned. The second bel rang, and we were now late for first period.
"Nothing, just thoughts are jumbled."
"Wanna go?" He asked. I've never skipped before but hey why not we are already late. Maybe I could clear things with Thayer.
"Let's," I grinned and pulled my coat back on. Thayer smiled back and sprinted down the hall. Boy, was he excited.
Thayer drove us through McDonalds and got us both Carmel Frappes. Now 9:00 I think it was still early enough for coffee. Thayer stopped at the beach board walk and parked in the stalls over looking the beach. For a long moment, Thayer just say there letting his car run, watching the waves crash onto the sand.
"Thayer, what are we doing?" I broke the silence. I really didn't mind skipping school now. This was peaceful. And watching Thayer just stare off into the distance with the sun shine in his face...
"Relaxing, calming, chilling, blah, blah blah." Thayer answered. He turned to look at me. "What are you thinking, right now, at this exact moment?" Honestly I was just thinking how his eyes matched the color of the water...
"We have been sitting here for fifteen minutes now and that's what you have been thinking of? My eyes?" Thayer laughed. Did I say that out loud? He switched in his seat, so he was facing me easier.
I felt so calm right now. Like this was were I was meant to be at this exact moment. Here with Thayer. I sighed and put my head down. "I'm sorry," was the only thing that came to mind.
Thayer out his hand on my face and turned it towards himself. "Don't be," He said as he ran his thumb over my chin then to my lips. So calm and peaceful. Dawn just breaking with sun. Thayer inched his face closer to mine. Every instinct should have been to back away. To not want this. But for some reason, I stayed still. I didn't move.
His forehead closed in on mine, causing them to touch. Our noses barely closed the gap. Maybe this is what I truly wanted. I opened my eyes, not realizing I when I first closed them. I found Thayer starring back at me.
"Thayer," I whispered. Not sure why, but it felt like the right thing to say. He took that as an invitation, placing his lips on mine.
It was sweet and innocent. Soft and warm. It felt true and not drunk like most kisses I've had. It was exhilarating. I reached my hand up to grab the back of Thayer's head, tangling my hand in his think hair. His other hand slid from the drear ing wheel to my lap. Resting I my leg for reassurance. He opened his mouth to deepen the kiss. Things were happening so fast I wasn't really comprehending it all. I was kissing Thayer and he was kissing back, check. I liked it, check.
'been around the world don't speak the language, but your booty don't need explainin,'
Fuck me and my phone for going off right now. Any other time it won't but when I'm in the middle of something good I become a hot sensation. Thayer pulled apart. I could see the faint blush on his face. He cleared his throat.
"You gunnna get that?" He pointed to my pocket where my phone was still ringing.
"Right," I let go of Thayer's hair and scrambled for my phone. NICK. Seriously what did Nick need?
"Hello?"
"Where are you and Thayer at? what did you do skip? You don't skip?" Nick ranted on the other end.
"Who said I was with Thayer, and your not my mom."
"Who else would you be with?" He had a point...
"Me and Thayer skipped." I sighed. Nick was distracting me from the bigger picture here. I told him we would for sure be at school tomorrow, and that there was no need to call and be worried we were big boys. He tried to argue but eventually hung up.
I focused my attention back to Thayer, who was fumbling with his phone, playing games.
"so," I cut in.
"Yes?" He put his phone in the cup holder and plugged it into the radio. He pressed shuffle and the first song came on was Same Love by Macklemore. Perfect song for the perfect day. And for the many days to come. I once again found Thayer's lips on mine. And never again was he just my "best friend".
