"Hey man over here!" Max yelled.
Langdon took a deep breath as he seen Max with three other guys. Earlier he had called asking if it was all right to bring some friends. Assuming they were wolves just not those wolves. Taking a few calming breaths before crossing, Langdon began to hum.
"You alright man?" Max asked, already feeling the battle within himself.
He nodded, still humming.
"This is Zero, Josh and Aaron. Guys Langdon."
"Pleasure to meet you man," Josh held out his hand. Shaking it, Langdon let go quickly and moved to Aaron.
"Sorry," he mumbled.
"No harm, we won't hurt you so calm down." Josh teased, "Max told us about the other pack. You know we're not all like that. Get to know us before you judge. If you don't like us, tell us and we'll leave you alone."
Each felt Langdon's shame. The feeling caused them to feel sick to their stomachs.
"Alright let's go." Zero handed over a ticket, "The liner was killer."
"Thanks," Langdon whispered. "I'll buy the snacks as payment."
"Cool!" Zero nudged him, feeling the electric vibes again. "One of everything!" Langdon laughed, in hopes he was joking.
Sitting down in the upper rows, Langdon sighed after that line, he could use a seat. The woman behind the counter had to flirt with Zero and Josh. Zero ended up getting the snacks for him because the woman wouldn't listen to anything he had to say. Then all the questions began.
Where are you from? All over.
Parents? No father, Bailey is his adopted mother. Have no clue who his parents are.
Max apologized between questions. His friends were being extremely rude and demanding. Josh countered; there was nothing wrong in trying to get to know a guy. Only way to get to know someone is to ask questions. All of a sudden a growl came somewhere below them. Langdon stiffened against his will. Zero snatched a hold of his arm, blocking the others.
"Man chill out, we're trying to be a friend."
Clearly, Langdon was scared; people were taking glances at them. A laugh sounded from Max and Aaron. Something about getting over what happened, kiss and make up. That caused an embarrassment in Langdon. It allowed the fear to lighten enough that Zero rubbed his palm over his neck, telling him that it was okay. In the process, Zero felt the electric tingles and the sensation overwhelmed his beast. His beast began to grow hyper. Seeking a distraction, he told the guys he’d be right back. Walking down the aisle, trying to figure out what was going on with him.
The guys down a few rows of them showed Zero his neck. Slapping the guys in the back of the head, he leaned in and whispered to them. Straightening up, he walked back to the guys.
"Sorry about that, they won't be giving us anymore problems tonight."
"W-what-why did you do that for?" Langdon rocked a bit.
"Zero here is soon to be Alpha; Josh and Aaron are his Beta's." Max answered.
"Oh great," Langdon began to hum again.
The effects of his humming grabbed each of the wolves. Below them, the guys looked up to see what was going on. Langdon paid no attention to them; he was watching the screen turn alive. During the scary parts, their little session relaxed including all humans.
Jokes made way after the movie. Langdon's laugh had more of an effect on Zero than the others did. He thought it was a sweet sound, making his beast grown more excited.
Grabbing a quick bit to eat, the guys hung out told a little about themselves. All of a sudden, they heard a screech, "Oh my god! You promised that we would do something." Zero's head fall down. Not really wanting to deal with Shelby or any of what she was bringing right now.
"What the hell Zero?" Shelby stood in front of the table.
"I'm hanging out with the guys. Tomorrow I was going to call you."
"Tomorrow I'm busy."
"I didn't know." Zero snapped. By instinct, a feeling was push towards him, calming him down. He looked over at Langdon. A thank you reached his eyes. "Shelby I don't want to do this right now. I'll call you later."
"Whatever!" she stormed off with her friends. A mummer of Zero being a jerk sounded from the girls walking away from them.
"What's up with you and Shelby?"
"Hell if I know." Zero tossed a fry into his mouth. "My beast finds her repulsive now."
"Oh that means he senses your mate." Max replied, "Remember I was dating Lori when I claimed Jen. The mere sound of her voice sickened my stomach. If she touched me, I had to focus on not ripping her apart."
"Really?" Zero sounded amused, "Huh? He hasn't taken claim to anyone."
"Maybe instinctively he knows the situation. Like with Cherry, I know it will take time. There are times I want to rip Thomas head off, yet she's human."
"Could she be human?" Aaron asked.
"You got me," Zero laughed, he honestly had no idea who this mate could be. "How about you, any hot girls catching your eye around school?"
Langdon froze for a moment, "No." There had never been a girlfriend.
"Boyfriend?" Langdon shot a nasty look towards Max who laughed.
"Hey not judging just wondering."
"No there's no one." A pang of sorrow reached the table by voice and emotion.
Zero cleared his throat; his beast was enjoying the thought that there was no one special in his life. Although, Zero had no clue as to why his beast would be pleased with this information. Everything about Langdon interested him. How his hair shines in the light or the blueness of his eyes.
Zero eyes widened, ‘Wait, what the hell?’ Shaking the thoughts around in his mind, he tried to focus on what the guys were saying inside of what was going on inside of his mind.
Out on the bleachers Langdon listened to a story about how a grandmother use to make faces in their breakfast plates. Or, how the girls would get together and do girlie things during sleepovers. Down running around the track, Josh and Zero looked up to see Langdon and Cherry talking. She was talking he's ear off, while he sat calmly listening to her.
"Oh great!" Josh growled.
"Calm down, he doesn't know our ways and besides he is sitting with her. Where she can see you, watch." Zero cupped his hands around his mouth, "Langdon!"
Langdon looked down with Cherry.
"Come here real quick."
Meeting him down at the fence, Zero whispered that was Cherry, was the mate that Josh is trying to form a relationship with but she is human. His eyes widened, "Oh sorry I didn't know."
"We know, just our beast can go mad you know."
He didn't know about the whole mating process between mates. Or what the werewolf beast was capable of doing around mates and those around the mate. Langdon nodded, "So stay away from her?"
"Basically, but the guy could use some help. I'm not asking you to put in a good word. Maybe just to listen for stuff she likes any issues with her and Thomas."
"Who's Thomas?"
"Derek Thomas, football jock. A.K.A. her boyfriend."
"Oh," Langdon got it. "Well I'll try," he spoke hesitantly. Zero lightly pouched his shoulder.
"Thanks man," trying to ignore the surge of electricity bolted up his arm.
Going back up Cherry wanted to make sure that everything was fine. Everything was all right; Zero was just reminding him of something. Cherry thought Zero was a bit hotheaded but his friend Josh was so sweet. Her unsure face gave him a laugh.
This opened the door for Cherry to start talking about Josh. How he seems to stare at her and it was not creepy. Almost felt like he was admiring her from a distance. His words were sweet, made her flutter. Langdon wiped his face, just great. Thanks a lot there Josh. Paybacks are going to be sweet. As Cherry changed the conversation turned to a dreamlike state. His shoulders dropped to listen. Even his beast was sickened. Listening to a girl talk about another guy was madding. These wolves were going to owe him big time. However, he did keep his ears open when she started to talk about her boyfriend.
Lunch came around, Langdon walked over towards the table that held all the wolves, well not all. However, the wolf that owed him. Sitting down the tray, Langdon groaned. This was ridiculous; every horny human or wolf seems to be around him today. Picking the tray back up, he walked away.
"Hey man what's?" Zero called out.
Throwing the tray on the return belt, loss of appetite seems to happen around this school a lot lately. The door to freedom was so close. Unfortunately, walking in was Cherry and who he assumed was her boyfriend by the holding of the hands.
"Hi Langdon," she smiled.
"Hello," he could feel the disgust rating from the guy. "Excuse me, I was heading out."
"Oh sorry," Cherry smiled.
"Don't tell this dork sorry, it's him that should be sorry."
"Stop it Derek, he's a friend."
As Derek stepped forward, he slammed his fist into Langdon's side, causing him to double over in pain. Next, there were five wolves standing in his path. Zero quickly threw a pouch. Jen quickly pulled Langdon away. Begging him to keep Zero calm, Langdon lifted up his shirt, a huge red fist mark was right on his rib cage. The plea from Jen went ignored during this time.
'What the hell, it shouldn't hurt that bad.' he thought.
Pushing down the pain, Langdon focused on trying to keep the wolves calm. Josh had finally broke up the fight between Zero and Derek. Laying him down on the ground, Josh stayed on top of Zero. By this time, teachers were coming to break up the fight.
"Zero Blackwood, down to the office now!" Mr. Craig pulled Zero up.
"Someone take Derek to the school nurse."
"Figures, Derek attack someone and you overlook his victim." Jen snapped, "Sucking his dick too!"
"Enough! Jen office now!" Mr. Craig pulled them both to the office. Another teacher helped Derek to the nurse. The teacher had over looked Langdon lying on the floor in pain. Cherry quickly helped Josh and Max.
"I thought I heard something break," her voice carried concern.
Lightly her hand touched Josh. A serge rippled through, causing Cherry to gasp. Josh growled. Langdon snapped 'not now,' Max chuckled at the disgust going through his friend.
When the Alpha arrived at school, the wolves felt the anger radiating from him. In the office, Zero showed him respect by showing his neck. "Zero," his deep voice sent a chill down his spine.
"Dad, he was able to break Langdon's ribs."
Nathanial narrowed his eyes.
"The staff over looked him, acted like he wasn't there. Jen spoke out, that is the reason she is here. No one ever does anything about him."
A door opened to Jen's parents coming out. Quickly they showed their necks to the Alpha. "Jen has been suspend for three days."
"Mr. Blackwood, do come in."
"First where is Langdon Stark? The one Jen and Zero tried to protect?"
The principal squared his shoulders, "His mother took him to the hospital."
"I see, I better here this other boy will be suspended as well or my attorney will run this school through the mud."
This time the principal was nervous. Zero followed them into the office. Nathanial stuck his head back out, "Jen find out about Langdon."
"I will," her parents quickly walked her along. They too knew of the boy, after the Alpha had told them their daughter's job. It was an honor among wolves for the Alpha to give a direct responsibility.
A red car pulled up in front of Langdon's house to find two people sitting on the porch. Both stood up when a woman exited the vehicle. Her brown hair pulled back in a loose bun. She juggled three bags; when they ran down to help her. Jen took one bag, Max took the remaining two.
"Oh thank you,” she grabbed two more from the back seat.
"We're friends of Langdon's."
"He really isn't feeling well."
"We know." Jen leaned in, "We're different like Langdon."
Bailey squared her shoulders, eyes narrowed. "Set the bags on the floor. Stay right here."
Clearly, they saw she did not trust them. Keeping the peace, they listened to her. Listening as her foot falls took her up a flight of stairs. A door opened, her voice carried towards Langdon. She was asking about the teens that showed up on their doorstep. A gasp was heard, next a groan. His voice carried pain. What sounded like he was speaking through clinch teeth, he told her a description of whom they were and names. A door shut, footfalls come down the stairs next the front door opened again.
"Okay names?"
"Max, my mate Jen."
She nodded then opened the door, pointed to the stairs. "First door on the left. By the way I own many guns."
They nodded and went straight up the stairs.
At the pack house, Zero was training with some of the wolves who were there. His mind was conflicted about the day’s events. One hand he was listening to orders, on the other hand, his blood boiled. His beast wanted flesh and pain of the person who harmed Langdon. Instead of taking the time to figure out why his beast was so protective over him. Zero chose to work off his frustration. His father was watching over him as he trained with the wolves. A part of Zero thought it was more of him watching over the wolves that he was training against.
Max and Jen's scent lingered their way as they approached. Zero held up his hand, the training stopped. Walking towards his father, he allowed his stomach to remain showing. The Alpha wiped a towel over his stomach, sign of acknowledgement. His father was proud that his son was respectful, unafraid as the future Alpha. His beast was still fearful enough not to provoke a fight between them.
"How's Langdon?"
Max and Jen both show their necks. Zero growled, "I'm not repeating myself."
"Black and blue, broken. Instead of two, it's three. Isn't he part wolf?"
"He has to be to be able to calm a wolf down." Gregory spoke over their shoulders as he walked through. "Nathan, I think you're right. There is no way a human can harm one of us like that."
"This boy Derek, does he smell like a wolf?"
"Not that I've noticed." Zero answered, "Why?"
"A theory, he's not human. A human could not have busted his ribs like that, even if, he was just a normal shape-shifter. One to bust his ribs like that cannot be human. And vampires don’t come out during the day." The Alpha growled.
"Well Ms. Stark, Langdon's mom. Does not trust, anyone. Apparently he told her about us, she threatened to shoot and keep shooting."
"She's completely human, smells like dead earth though, especially, around her neck and her wrist."
"A vampire leaves a mark, a smell on their victims. If she has been attacked and survived, she will carry that snitch around with her."
"Poor woman," Jen frowned.
"Do you think he'll be okay?" Max asked.
"Should, ribs taped up?"
"Nice and tight."
"Then that's all he can do besides rest."
