Chapter Eighteen- Still Luke's POV

  I was in the woods.  There was a dark figure chasing me.  I ran and ran as fast as I could, but it still caught up to me.  The person tackled me to the ground and laughed evilly.  They were wearing a ski mask, so I couldn't see their face, but it didn't matter because I recognized those icy grey eyes.  They belonged to my father. 

  "You aren't getting away this time Punk!"  He held me down and laughed again as I helplessly pleaded him.

  "Please, let me go!"  

  "LUKE!  WAKE UP!"

I jumped up and gasped.  My father was gone... and I wasn't in the woods... I was in a hotel room...

  "Luke, are you okay?"  Gabe rubbed my back soothingly and I shook my head as he wrapped me into a hug.  "You were screaming in your sleep."

  "I'm sorry... Did I wake you?"

  "Yes, but don't worry about it, kay?"

  "Okay.  Can we do something?  I don't want to go back to sleep yet..."  He nodded and turned on the lights.

  "I can sing to you?"

  "Okay."  I loved it when he sang to me... It calmed me down every time I got scared or upset... I just wished he did it as more than just a friendly gesture... I secretly wanted him to serenade me... I've seen it in movies, and every time he sings to me, I feel comforted by the words he sings, I just wanted them to mean more...

  "If you smile through your fear and sorrow.  Smile and maybe tomorrow, you'll find that life is still worthwhile, if you just smile...  That's the time you must keep on trying.  Smile, what's the use of crying.  You'll find that life is still worthwhile, if you just smile."  And I did.  I smiled wider than a kid who won a life long membership to Disneyland.

  "Thank you."  Gabe gave me another hug.

  "I'd do anything for you.  You know that."  As friends...

  "Yeah, I know.  Gabe, you don't really hate Zeek and Austen, do you?"  He seemed surprised and pulled way from the hug.

  "No, I guess not... Why?"

  "They're really nice... I just want to be able to be friends with them and not have you get all angry..."

  "I'm sorry... Will you tell Zeek I'm sorry for hurting him and calling him names?"  I smiled.

  "You can tell him that... Why don't we all hang out together sometime soon... New Years!"  I jumped in excitement.

  "Sounds good.  They really do make a nice couple, don't they?"

  "They do..."  I was jealous of them actually... They were happily in love and together, and I was stuck miserably hiding my feelings.

  "You have that jealous look on your face... Are you jealous of them?"

  "Um... well.. Yeah, I guess so..." 

  "Luke, are you gay?" 

  "No."  Technically I wasn't lying... I was bi...

  "You sure?"

  "I'm bi..."  Don't hit me... Don't hit me...

  "And you like Zeek?"  My eyes widened.  I was about to deny it, but I thought it over for a second... He seemed like he was okay with having a bisexual best friend, but that didn't mean he was fine with me loving him... So I lied.

  "Yea, I do..."

  "I'm sorry Luke..."  He gave me another hug.  "I'm sorry you have to see them together like that... It must be torture!"  He had no idea...

  Breakfast with Millie was fun.  I learned all about her new life.  She had two best friends, Mason and Callie, who she met after she moved.  I could tell she liked Mason more than a friend though, just by the way she glowed as she talked about him.  My little sister was in love!  

  "You like Mason, don't you?"  I asked her once we were finished eating.

  "Kinda..."

  "You're growing up!  I can't believe I missed it all!"  I hugged her to my chest and sighed.

  "It's okay, we'll never be separated again.  Never, ever!"  I chuckled and nodded.  "I think Gabe likes you."  She whispered.

  "No he doesn't.  He's straight as a pole."

  "A very curvy pole."  She laughed.

  "Besides, he thinks I like my friend Zeek."

  "Why?"

  "Because I told him I did...  I didn't want him to figure it out..."

  "Ughhh... You're so stupid!"

  "Whatever.  We're having a party for New Years if you wanna come."

  "Yeah!  Will I meet all your friends?"

  "Yep.  Zeek and his boyfriend Austen, and maybe a few others."

  "Sweet!"

  "You should invite Mason."  She blushed and nodded.  

  "Okay... Do you really have to leave though?"  She sighed.

  "Yes, I have to go home.  You can call or text me anytime, and you can Skype me too."  She nodded again, giving me one last hug, then pulling away, giving Gabe one as well.

  "Bye!"  I gave her one last wave and climbed in the car with Gabe as we started the long journey home.

Zeek's POV

  "Can we skip?"  I whispered to Austen.  I woke up with his arms around me like normal, and I just didn't feel like leaving.

  "Yeah, I gotta get stuff from my house while my mom is at work anyways.  Dad said she hid the spare key, so he'll come on his lunch break and unlock the door and help us with some stuff."

  "Sweet.  Can you hand me my phone?  I think I heard it go off a little bit ago."  He nodded and grabbed my cell from the nightstand, handing it to me.  I got a few messages from Luke.  

From: Luke

Hey, I'm not gonna be at school today... I found my sister! I'll explain more next time I see you.

I vaguely remembered Luke telling me something about how he hasn't seen his sister in a long time.

From: Luke

Hey, um... I kinda came out 2 Gabe today... He seemed ok with it... but I told him I liked u... I didnt want him 2 find out I liked him...

Right... Well at least he came out...

From: Luke

New Years party @ Gabe's house!  U, Austen and your friend with the colorful hair are invited.

From: Luke

Happy birthday!

Crap... I forgot my birthday was today... I knew it was soon... I just didn't remember when...

  "I'm taking you out on a date for your birthday by the way."

  "Did everyone remember my birthday except for me?"  Austen laughed and pulled me to him, kissing the top of my head.

  "Happy birthday Babe." He kissed my ear and got off the bed, stretching his arms.  "I'm gonna take a shower then we can head over to my house. It's almost eleven and my dad should be there soon."

  "Kay.  I'm gonna call Luke."

  "Love you."

  "Love you too."  Austen grabbed a towel and made his way into my bathroom... Well I guess actually our bathroom now?  I cleared the thoughts out of my head and called Luke.

  "Hey, did you get my texts?"

  "Yea... You really came out?"

  "Yeaaaa... He figured it out actually... I was talking about you and Austen and he said I looked jealous... I am by the way...  Just the fact that you two are such an adorable couple and I can't even tell Gabe how I feel.  Anyways, so I said yes and he thought I was jealous cuz I liked you... So I just let him think that so he didn't think I liked him..."

  "I understand.  He was okay with you being bi though?"

  "Yeah, seems like it.  He wants to apologize for being mean to you.  I'm making him say it in person though."

  "Thanks."  I laughed.

  "No problem.  So what are you and Austen up to?  Wait, didn't he come out to his family last night?  How was that?"

  "His dad and sister are very supportive of him... His mom however, kicked him out and now he lives with me.  I think we're gonna find an apartment soon anyways.  We're getting some of his stuff later."

  "I'm sorry about his mom...  It's cool you guys are like, living together now!"

  "I know!"  Just then Austen came out of the bathroom in only a towel, so I froze and couldn't peel my eyes away.

  "Zeek?  You there?"

  "Yea."  I whispered.

  "Austen's there isn't he?"

  "In a towel."  Austen smiled and sat on the bed next to me, grabbing my hand and kissed my knuckles.

  "I'll let you go.  Gabe is coming back anyways.  I'll see you soon!"

  "Bye!"  I hung up and glared at Austen.

  "What?"  He faked an innocent look.

  "You distracted me."  He smiled and kissed me softly.  I giggled and pushed him away.  "Go get dressed, we have to leave soon."  He stuck out his tongue and went into my closet.  "We've been invited to a New Years party at Gabe's."  I yelled while getting dressed.

  "Fun.  New Years is in a couple weeks, isn't it?"

  "Yeah.  Christmas is Thursday and it hasn't even snowed yet!"  I stuffed my phone in my pocket.  "You almost ready?"  He came out looking like a model, like always in his dark green shirt with his leather jacket and dark jeans.

  "Can you get all the stuff from my desk?"  Austen handed be a box and I smiled.

  "Sure."  I took the box and began to put books and journals inside.

  "I'm gonna go see if Dad needs help with the stuff in the garage."  He kissed my cheek and left the room.  I continued to put things in the box, but dropped what looked like a photo album.  I picked it up and flipped through the pages.  It was all of us... I smiled and flipped to the very last page where there was a letter...

  Dear Zeeky,

  You will probably never read this, but I wanted to write it just to sort out my feelings.  I'm in love with you. There... I said it... I love you so much... I want to be the one who kisses you everyday and who holds you at night.  I know we're still young, but I don't care.  I don't care if you're a guy and that you're my best friend... I LOVE YOU!!!  You're amazing in every way.  You're the best thing that's eve happened to me, and I am so lucky to have you in my life... I just wish you knew...  Someday I will tell you... And maybe someday I'll show you this...

  I don't think I ever was straight to be honest with you... I'm dating Kylee mostly as a cover... I asked her out because I was scared... I started to feel things toward you I thought weren't normal and I panicked, so I asked her out.  It was the worst decision I have ever made.  All I wanted was to keep you all to myself and never ever let you go, but I'm a stubborn idiot and refuse to tell you... I still have the teddy bear you gave me when I broke my arm and was in the hospital... I sleep with it almost every night, wishing it was you... I love you..

 Part of me wishes you will find this letter.... But the other part of me is scared... I don't want to lose you... I have nightmares about losing you, and I hate them, so I can't even imagine what it would be like losing you for real... I wish I had the courage to tell you.

I love you forever and always, and don't you forget that.

   "You found it."  I turned around and smiled at Austen.

  "I did.  Come here."  He walked over to me and I pulled him in for a hug.  

  "I wrote that the day after I started dating Kylee.  I felt guilty actually..."

  "When I was with Weston I felt guilty too.  Even when we went on that fake date, I felt guilty."

  "Have you ever been with anyone else?"

  "Nope.  I wouldn't count Weston... He knew about my feelings for you and was trying to help me get over you.  He asked me out, kissed me, and then we broke up."

  "Did you... like the kiss?"

  "Ehh.  It was just a kiss... It wasn't breathtaking like yours if that's what you're asking..."  He blushed.  I grabbed his face and kissed him softly.  "Austen, I'm not going anywhere, okay?  I've been waiting for us to be together for six years.  I'm not going to leave now that I actually have you."

  "Promise?"

  "Cross my heart."
