Chapter 4
(Patrick’s POV)
Sterl ran at me and tried to protect me from the knife that Capulet brought out. But I twisted him quickly just in time that the knife hits my side. It happened so fast that Sterl began to panic and Capulet ran off to somewhere else. The knife was sending so much pain, so I pulled it out from my side as blood slowly damps my cloth. Sterl started inspecting my wound and I let him; the most stupid thing I have done. I felt him stiffen at watching my slowly healing wounds. And my eyes widen at remembering that my wounds heal instantly after a few seconds. Damn! I wish that knife was silver; it would make the healing process slow.
I keep shouting his name as he ran off towards the direction of his house, but decided not to follow him when he turns around the corner. I slump down the street as tears stream down my face. I was disappointed, and very depressed. I was thinking of what would happen if I tell Sterl about me being a werewolf, and I thought he would accept me. But aside from disappointment and depression, I also feel scared. Scared of the possibilities that Sterl would hate me for being different and being supernatural. But Sterl didn’t know about me being a werewolf, but he saw that my wounds heal in an instant. He would be curious and eventually know about the real me. Then he would surely be scared and would try to avoid me like a plague. I wouldn’t care if he would rant about me if he will know that I’m a werewolf. The government would protect us and won’t let anyone else know about us. I got up as my eyes swell from the fight and crying, but as I lifted myself up from seating, I see my father standing beside a tree with a stern look in his face. I bow my head; avoiding his gaze. He motioned for me to follow him and before I knew it, we were home already.
I was expecting him to scold me or punish me but instead, he sent me up into my room to rest. I take my clothes off as I jump into the shower. I didn’t bother turning on the heater, I just let the cold water heat me. My body would usually shiver from the cold water hitting my back, but this time, I feel so numb that my body won’t respond to any of the things around me. Then, I get to my bed and lay down. I find it hard to sleep, knowing that Sterl thinks of me as a freak. It would be just two things; he would stay away from me, or be curious as to what I am. When that time comes, would I be ready to admit it to him, and him avoiding me forever? I hope not.
It bothers me so much that Sterl thinks of me as a freak. I’m not surprise that I feel this way. He matters to me. He makes me forget about Alyssa. He gave me light and makes me laugh all the time I’m with him, he would make my day complete. I have realized it long time ago, I like Sterl more than a best friend should be liked.
(Sterl’s POV)
Curiosity. That’s how I feel all night that I locked up myself in my room. I gave so much time thinking of Patrick. The way his wound healed so fast. It was supernatural. If he can do that, there should be more that he can do.
“What is he?” I ask myself.
“What?” Vanessa asks.
“Nothing. Don’t mind me.” I say while looking everywhere except her. Luckily, they didn’t mind me and started talking again. I see Patrick from a corner in the lunch room staring at me. I stare back, thinking all of the memories I have with him that I could put piece by piece to know what it is he is hiding, then I got suspicion as to what he is. I stand up and look at him, and then I walk out of the room. I know he would follow me. I walk faster until I reached the rooftop. Soon, he came. I face him with no emotion etched in my face. I’m scared but curiosity got me best. And deep inside me, I know he wouldn’t hurt me.
“Are you going to explain?” I ask after our long stare at each other. He looks away and starts pulling the loop in his pants; a habit of him every time he’s nervous.
“Uhm…” he starts. “I really don’t know what to say.”
“Then start at the beginning. You’re hiding something from me.” I say and try not to crack my voice. I’m trying my hard not to let him see that I’m shaking.
“I’m… uhm, I’m—“
“A werewolf.” I finish. He was stunned.
“How? But… How?” he murmured. Confused as to why I know.
“My dad…” I start to explain as I look at the field from the edge of the roof. “He’s a doctor. A doctor for the likes of you… The government hired him for that work. And he told me everything about the werewolves, but first, of course I didn’t believe him. But when I saw a bloody wolf that was brought by an alpha of the Lunar Pack, I believed him. I would sit at his office while he gives me little details about your kind. You hurt from things made of pure silver. You eat so much yet, you don’t get fat. You have supernatural senses, and you heal faster than normal.”
I face him “You smelled my scent and followed me here in the rooftop, without me telling you were I would go.” Patrick has his mouth open and then close. As if wanting to tell me something yet, he doesn’t know what words to put. He looks at me with confuse eyes and smiled weakly. Then, there I know that he wouldn’t hurt me. I smile back.
“So…” he starts after he saw me smile. “You knew.” He chuckle nervously and smiles again.
“Yeah, I know. And I’m not scared; you wouldn’t dare hurt me because I brought silver.” I joke. I laugh a little and was engulfed in a big crushing hug from Patrick. I hug him back. He must have worried so much about me. After a while, the hug became lighter, and we stand there just swaying from the silent music. I pat his back as he sniffs my neck. His breath tickles my soft spot and I have to stop myself from moaning. He withdraws his head as he looks down at me and I look up at him. I stare at his green eyes. They were plain, yet mesmerizing. Our foreheads touch as he smiles at me. But my heart was beating irregularly. It was beating faster than it should be. Our face got closer and soon, our lips touched, but still we keep our eye contact.
I gasp for air as I pull away from him. That was a dream-come true! He laughs as I playfully shove him. I run towards the door but he caught me and lifts me to his shoulder. I giggle like a child as we play. He walks with me in his shoulder in the hall. We were getting so much attention – some laughs at our childishness but some were murmuring as if our appearance were something big as an issue.
Our classes end earlier. Patrick offers on walking me home and I happily agreed. We walk hand in hand when I saw a boy wearing fitted jeans and a black hoodie covering his face. He looks up as he passes by and I smiled at him. He has that black eyes and a stern looking face with a scar near under his left eye descending to his cheek. He was the wolf that saved me from that fire.
Patrick growled beside me. I look at him and his eyes were shining. He looks at me and started to relax.
“Sorry.” He apologized.
“Is there something wrong?” I ask worriedly.
“Just that… Some rogue passed by.” He replies. I know that rogue he was talking about was the same rogue that saved me. I didn’t push the topic and just smiled at him then walk home.
