Chapter 6
(Sterl’s POV)
Have you ever felt that feeling when the tension in the air is like a very, very dark aura surrounding you? And all you want to do is avoid it, yet, you can’t… That’s exactly how I feel right now. Patrick and K are sitting on my both sides and would squish me to death. Patrick would always growl in frustration when I would talk to K.
K’s pretty fun to be with but whenever being around K is with Patrick, no, a very big no, it is like swimming in a sea and trying to avoid the waves, yet, you know you can’t. How on earth did I ever come up comparing the sea and my relationship with K and Patrick? I groan and bury my face in my hands.
“What’s wrong Pearl?” Patrick asks and pats my back. I look at him and narrow my eyes.
“You and K. That’s what is wrong. Why can’t you two be friends?” Patrick shrugs as if it’s nothing.
“He’s a rogue. Rogues killed Alyssa. And I can’t kill rogues unless they cause chaos. And I can’t kill him because he’s done nothing wrong.” He finishes. I glare at the floor. I admit that it hurts me that until now, he still cares for Alyssa. I know they had something in the past and so I respect that. But, him, saying something that he wants to kill K. It was too much. Alyssa died because of the rogues, not because of K. He may be a rogue, but, he’s not like them. He’s kind and very protective. He’s different from all of them. I hated how Patrick thinks that all rogues are bad. I can’t help but feel bad for K. I owe my life to him. He saved me when his fellow rogues burned our house.
“Patrick…” I start. I look up at him as he glances at me with worried eyes. “Not all rogues are bad.” He snorts and I cover his mouth before he could snicker something about all rogues are the same and bad.
“That day, when our house burned… It wasn’t an accident. K’s fellow rogues did it, because my father refused to treat the wounds of a rogue that killed an Alpha’s mate. That rogue got mad and wanted revenge. He burned our house, killing my parents. But I survived. You know why? Because of K. He betrayed his family; those rogues. He destroyed their trust because he wants to save me. He wants to give gratitude and pay his debt to my father. But, in return, he has no one else now.” I remove my hands in his mouth. He stares at me and reaches out. That’s when I realize, I was crying. Patrick wipes the tears in my cheeks and kisses my forehead. I sniff as he hugs me. Cradling me like a child.
“Please, don’t hate him. He’s different. I want you to be friends with him. Please?” I plead. He hugs me tighter and even if I can’t see him, because my face is buried in his chest, I can feel him nod. I grin and pull away from the hug, grinning like idiot. I wipe my tears and kiss him. It was just a small peck but Patrick was grinning too.
Today is fun. Patrick and K get along now. Though, I can still see Patrick scowling sometimes when K jokes something to me. I would eye him and he would sigh. They are friends now, they would play and punch each other playfully, that made my day; seeing my friend and boyfriend get along with each other.
We were dismissed earlier than normal schedule and K invited us to go play in the woods. Patrick and I agreed, and hearing the word woods makes my body shiver in excitement. I’m expecting to see Patrick’s wolf. I wonder how soft it would feel, what color it is, how big his wolf is. We hop on Patrick’s car and headed to the direction K gave us. We get there and walk deeper into the forest. The farther we walk the greener and bushes with flowers can be seen. My smile got bigger and bigger the deeper we went. We were silently walking while following K, until we stop into a circular space. It was a big space with trees all around. And the only things to see on the ground are the grass and tiny flowers growing in it.
I kneel down and trace my finger in the soft small grasses. Patrick lies down beside me and I rest my head in his chest. K brought out a small basket full of food. We ate and talk randomly when the early excitement in me rushes back.
“Patrick…” I call “Can I see it?” I ask. Patrick turns crimson and shakes his head. “Why not!?” I exclaim and pout.
“K is here, and don’t you think it’s a little private for the both of us?” He explains. I scowl and push him.
“No fair!” I whine like a child “I want to see it now! Please? Then K can turn around while you show it to me.”
“Pearl, I know it’s romantic here minus K. and I would really follow your commands only if we are alone and private. We can do it in the house if you want…” He says, making me confuse. Obviously K is a werewolf, so no one around here is human aside from me. Then it hits me. I turn to K and see him stifling his laugh. Oh god! He got me all wrong! What I meant to say is that I want to see his wolf! Not his dick! I laugh hard, rolling in the ground. K followed suit, laughing and pounding the grass while laughing.
“What?!” Patrick asks in frustration, not understanding why we were laughing.
“Y-you, pft… you honestly think that I would want to see your dick? Oh god! Patrick, what I meant was that; I want to see your wolf.” I say and laugh one final time. Patrick is all red when I stop and I have to stifle my laugh just so not to embarrass him further more.
I smile at him and lean to kiss his cheek. “I just want to see your wolf. Idiot.”
He sighs and starts to get up. I jump up eagerly, waiting to see his wolf. I quickly turn around when I see him stripping. I don’t know why they do that, but I won’t let my innocent eyes get dirty because of his body. A few seconds after, I heard a cracking sound. Though, when someone hears it, it would give them shiver, but for me, no, it gives me pleasure hearing it. It was like a sound of popping bones.
“Turn around Sterl.” K says. I look at him, unsure of what to do. I wanted to turn around and look at the wolf, but at the same time, it was getting on my nerves, I feel like wanting to throw up. I slowly turn around and when I come face to face with him, my heart drops. His wolf is beautiful. It was black with shades of brown, but what was more attractive is the violet color highlight at the end of the tip of his fur. It was unnatural, my dad told me once that wolf’s color are usually black, brown, or white, and silver color wolf are rare.
I walk towards him, he sits still in the distance, and I lightly touch his fur, running my fingers through it. Even when sitting, his wolf is as tall as my height. He nuzzles his face closer to my arm. I closed our gap and hug the wolf. A snap broke me through my comfortable state. Soon, a black eyed brown wolf came out together with two more wolfs. The brown wolf looks menacing. But, the two other wolf were wimpy looking, they were small and skinny. A bone snapping and popping rings through my ear, and K’s black wolf comes out. It still has the scar under its eye. They were growling and barking, snarling even. Patrick’s wolf tugs my arm. He motions me to ride his back. I did, but got worried as we start to take off.
“What about K?!” I exclaim. When Patrick didn’t stop from running, I jump off his back, stumbling a little. I quickly run back to where K must still be, when I got near, I heard a loud whimper. I run faster, and I can see the small wimpy wolf on top of K. I tackle it and it releases its grip on K’s neck. K quickly got up and attacks the brown wolf that attempts to attack me, sending them both on the ground, the two black wolfs circles around me and one of them is on the floor, Patrick tackled it to the ground. Surprisingly, the black wolf gives a fair shot, it stood up avoiding Patrick’s bites.
But I got bigger problem. I quickly evaded the snarl and bites of the small wolf. I’m starting to panic. I sure get to fight and I do know how too, but fighting a wolf was never my style. It clawed me and I quickly side-stepped, but its nails did a scratch on my shoulder, enough to see blood coming out. I was distracted for a while that it took the opportunity to pin me on the ground. I screamed for Patrick and K’s help, but they too are busy with their opponents.
In times like this I become desperate. I look around me, and I spotted my bag just enough for me to stretch and reach. I push the wolf’s neck to keep it from biting me. I grab my bag and search for my flute. I got the hard wooden instrumental. I push harder in the neck. I pressed the small button just beside the mouthpiece. A silver knife snaps up after and I stab the wolf with it on its side. It whimpered loudly, gaining the attention of his companions. I got up as it slowly stumbles to the ground. I knelt beside it as it catches it’s breathe. I raise the knife and slit its throat. After that, I black out.
