"Hello?" We all continue on with our conversation in Calum's coffee shop as Rebecca takes her call. "Yeah okay -" she turns to us. "Sorry guys, I have to take this."
We all nod, waving her away, and Calum's hand starts to trail up and down my thigh, a smirk plastered on his face.
"Can you not?" I whisper in his ear, watching him shiver. He just shrugs, inching his hand higher to where it really shouldn't be inching.
Sighing, I roll my eyes, going back to talking to Red. But I'm interrupted by a blood cuddling scream that haunts its way to my bones.
"What the heck was that?!" Calum hisses, his hands flying off of my leg, as if it had screamed.
I shake my head, scraping my chair back and getting up. "Let's go check it out." I grab his hand, and drag him outside.
All seems quiet.
But then we hear it again, that chilling scream, toe curling, head spinning, heart wrenching. A screech of pure terror and fear.
One glance at Calum and I can tell he's not feeling okay about this at all. He's as pale as a sheet, his beautiful eyes wide on terror. Fear radiates off of him like perfume, and I grip hos soft hand tightly.
"It's okay, Cal, right? It'll be fine." He just frowns, but nods anyways.
"Okay. But where's 'Becca?" My chest tightens as I realise he's right.
I turn to everyone else. "Guys. Where in the world is 'Becca?!" Drestin looks ready to bolt for the direction of the scream.
Out of the corner of my eye, I see a head of dirty blonde hair emerge from one of the dark alleyways. A head of hair that looks suspiciously like Killian's.
"Hey," I look at everyone. "Hey guys, I think the noise came from in there."
Drestin grabs Red's shoulders, as it seems like she's frozen. "Rita? Rita come on. Your best friend is missing, let's get her back."
Red runs a hand through her curls, and nods. "Right. Right, let's go."
So we head towards it, jogging in the fastest way possible. Random strangers give us weird looks, as if we were the ones to cause that scream. They look like they're about to bolt and call the police on anyone who looks suspicious. We push through them, and into the enclosed space between the butcher's and the grocer's.
The sight is enough to make me feel like throwing up my coffee cake and Cappuccino.
Rebecca's body has been laid out in Jesus position, blood running down her pale face, spilling out of her lips, pooling on her bare stomach. A small piece of paper is in between her index and middle finger.
Calum lets go of my hand, flopping to his knees. I get down beside him, stroking his hair as he dry heaves.
Drestin tries not to cry, walking over to Rebecca's still body. He plucks the paper from her pale hands, and opens it.
"T-this is the first warning." He trembled as he reads it out loud, his mass of hair flopping into his eyes. "I won't hesitate to k-kill her n-next time."
A shadow passed over all of us, and Calum lets out a sob. I never realised how sensitive he was. I wrap my arms around his tiny frame, trying to calm him down. But I don't know if I can keep up the bravado for much longer, as my mind drifts to Killian, and his blood thirsty eyes.
"Is she d-dead?" Calum whispers, and I glance to Drestin, even though I know all he wants to do is creep into a corner and cry. He loves Rebecca.
He grabs her wrist, checking for a pulse. All tension seems to drain away from his body as he checks her.
"She's alive. Thank God."
Red lets out a strangled noise, some mix of a laugh and an agonising sob. "Let's get her to a hospital."
I can't help but stick my tongue out at Calum. "See? You're supposed to bring people with injuries to hospitals."
He just shrugs."You seem fine, and you didn't go anywhere."
I just sigh, and watch as Drestin calls 999, tears streaming down his face as he chokes back sobs of happiness.
