Davids POV:
I woke up and dragged my head up off the table. I'm not sorry. That Spencer kid deserved it. I don't know what is happening to me - But I cant stand seeing Jesse happy with other guys. Dammit! Who was I becoming?
I heard a loud Buzz, and the door on the other side of the interrogation room opened. In walked 2 people - a policeman, and my dad. Oh shit.
"Your father has paid bail for you. Now get out of here. And I don't want to see you again. What you did was so morally wrong." said the policeman. Yet I was still grateful for his presence. Without him... well I'm about to find out whats going to happen when he leaves.
My dad grabbed my arm so hard I thought it was going to break. He yanked me out of the office and the second we got into the parking lot, his fist connected with my face. I felt blood drip from above my eye.
"YOUR SUCH AN IDIOT! DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH BAIL COSTS? YOU WORTHLESS BITCH!"
He hit me again and I fell on the ground.
"Your so weak you cant even stand up." Or at least that's what I interpreted. He was so drunk that he was slurring his speech all over the place.
He spit on me, then kicked me in the ribs. I cringed, just hoping for it to be over soon. And not just the beating. Life.
My dad had always been this way. I don't know if it is abuse or not. Don't all parents do this to their kids? I don't know. that's what he had always told me. Or at least he told me that's what his parents did to him. I never had any other parents-so I wouldn't know.
I stood up, and tried to limp off. Red footprints followed me behind the parking lot.
On my way home, I tripped and fell a couple times. I was light headed, and couldn't see out of the left side of my left eye.
After tripping and falling for the 4th time, Luckily onto some grass, I didn't move. I didn't even try.
Why did I have this odd attachment to Jesse? Its killing me. If he wasn't going to be with me, I didn't want him to be with anyone. Wait a minute, What? Do I... Do I like Jesse? No. No this cant be happening. I cant be...gay. My dad would murder me. Literally.
As soon as I said it, I knew it was true. I had never liked girls... But I hadn't ever had the thought that I could be... you know. I cant even say it.
I started to cry. I don't know what I am doing. And now here I am - A pathetic bloodstained human laying on the side of the road, crying.
After what seemed like an eternity of this, I sat up and sat on the curb and tried to recompose myself. I heard a crinkle. What was that?
I reached into my pocket and found a sandwich. Oh yeah, I stole this from some loser at lunch today. I opened it up, and threw some crumbs at a bird in the road. It jumped, and then cocked its head and looked at me. It slowly approached the piece of bread, and ate it.
I kept throwing bits of bread, as more and more birds started to come. eventually, I ran out, and stood up to leave. I walked home, delaying as much as I could.
I approached the front door, and touched the doorknob. I knew that I didn't want to go in, but I had too. The doorknob was cold. It felt good against my skin. I opened it up, and there was my mom. She looked at me, then came and hugged me. I was so glad to see her home again.
Luckily my dad wasn't home yet, and my mom said she wanted to come visit, but no one was home, so she was waiting. My mom left my dad about a year ago. She is such an amazing woman. But dad would always hit her and tell her horrible things.
She was dressed in a robin egg blue skirt, with a hat. Her brown hair was tied back behind her, and she was holding a blue purse with white stripes.
"Hey" She said with tears in her eyes after looking at me.
"Hey mom" I said with a smile.
"What happened?" She said, as if she knew, but was hoping she was wrong.
"Dad happened." I said with my head down.
"David, You cant let him keep doing this to you. Please, Come with me. New York has so many beautiful things. I'm sure you would love it. I'm even dating someone" She said with a smile.
It made me happy to see she had moved on, but I already knew I couldn't go with her.
"Sorry. I want too, but dad will come searching for us both. besides. My place is here. for now." I said frowning.
"You could start a whole new life! Who cares about your father? Hes drunk most of the time, and when he isn't, he is stupid anyway. Come on. At least tell me what is really holding you here. I know your lying to me."
I sighed. I knew she was right about my dad, but I wasn't ready to leave. I.... I cant leave Jesse. The thought hurt. I felt like I was obligated to tell her.
"Its someone, isn't it. Come on. Sit down." she said with a small smile.
After cleaning off the couch that was covered in molding food and other things that I dont want to know what they were, We sat down.
"Yeah... Its someone". I said.
"Well love is a strange thing. I'm sure you know that." She said straightening her hat.
"Well mom... I have something I want to tell you."
"Whats that, sweetie?"
"Mom... I.. I'm gay."
Nothing could have prepared me for what happened next. She arm flew towards me in a single motion. I tensed up, preparing for the worst, when I felt her make contact with me.
She was hugging me. I started crying again.
"Honey, Is that all you were going to tell me? That's not big at all."
"Thanks" I said weakly.
"So a boy is holding you here?" She said as if it was the most normal thing in the world that her son had fallen for a boy.
"Yeah. His name is Jesse." I replied.
Without warning, I heard stomping down the stairs.
Oh shit. Who is in my house?
My dad came screaming down the stairs. Me and my mom both immediately panicked. He must have been here the whole time, before my mom came home.
I grabbed my moms feeble hand and ran for the door. Before I could make it, my dad grabbed my moms arm.
"Let her go." I said trying to keep calm.
"I cant believe you. you disgust me you faggot. He spat on my face, then shoved my mom at me. We both started to run, and I loaded her in her car, and told her to go back to New York as fast as possible. She gave me her phone number, and asked me if I was sure. I said I was Positive.
My dad stormed out of the house behind us, and I closed my moms door, and she sped off into the distance crying.
I ran. I didn't know where I was going, Or what I was doing, but I ran.

There is a hidden message here: It doesnt take a lot to make someone happy, (Crumbs for the birds) and it doesn't take a lot to hurt someone (Davids Dad).
You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view . . . until you climb into his skin and walk around in it
-(Harper Lee, To kill a mockingbird)
I am so sorry - I know this chapter was morbidly dismal. The next ones will be happier, but some stuff has to take place before then... Thanks for reading you guys. Your amazing!!!
