ON WITH THE STORY!
I looked over at the clock:
1:27 AM
Silence. Silence. Silence. Nothing But the white noise of the AC. More Silence. I got more and mor in tune with all the sounds of the room, searching for more. The almost silent hum of all the machines. The AC. The sound of Spencer breathing. I already knew there was no way that I could sleep here. It was too... Sterile. It was so clean. It was so far from home.
But was it?
I looked down at my intertwined fingers, and reconsidered.
No, I am not far from home. This is home. Right here. Right where I need to be. Laying next to the boy I love, but he doesn't know it.
Silence.
SCREAM!
It scared me so bad that I almost passed out.
OH GOD. ITS SPENCER.
He let out another, then another, until he was full on freaking out. He was still asleep though. I was on my feet, and tried to push the nurse button.
Tried, that is.
I was shaking so bad it took me a full ten seconds to finally gain the stability to push the button. It lit up, giving me confirmation and hope that help was on its way.
I watched in horror as his heart monitor sped up, until it was racing. I decided to wake him up. I started to gently shake his arm, then realized that wasn't going to work. He started screaming more. I was worried that I was making it worse instead of better. But I had to keep going. I started shaking harder, I grabbed his whole body, and began shaking, in as much of a gentle way as I could. I didnt want to hurt him, just wake him up.
He stopped mid scream, a tear falling from my face onto his bed. Had I been crying? I guess I got caught up in the heat of the moment.
J-J-Jes-Jesse he choked out between deep heavy breaths. I got a towel from the private bathroom, and ran it under cold water, then pressed it to his forehead, his heart monitor slowing down, while I breathed a sigh of relief. He was alive. He was still here.
"Hey, Its okay. Every things okay. I promise. Its just me, Jesse."
He was curled up in a fetal position. I stroked the back of his sweat drenched hair, and down his neck, until he was only crying a little bit.
A nurse walked in.
WELL IT TOOK FUCKING LONG ENOUGH I thought to myself
"You buzzed?" She said, calm as could be. Not in a way that meant she didnt care though. She was very maternal, and that calmed me down.
"S-something is wrong. Please send another nurse - not you to go get his parents. I need you to stay here with us."
"Yes, Mr...."
"Jesse" I stated.
She yelled down the hall, and then came in and closed the door.
"So want to tell me a little about what happened?"
"I don't know... He just started screaming," I sniffled. "There was nothing I could do. I woke him up, and he stopped."
"Ahh... It says here on his diagnosis that he has a rare type of Psychostimuli, Yes?"
"Yeah. Right. So what happened?"
"Night terrors are common among Psychologically damaged patients."
I didn't like the way she said "Damaged". I refused to believe that he was broken. And if he is, I will fix him.
"Ok... What should I do next ti---"
I was cut off by the swinging of the door. Spencer parents, In hospital pajamas ran in, and started to hug Spencer. He became fully awake once again, and started to hug them back."
"I-I-I was running and running, A-And I just wasn't fast enough" was all he stammered out to his mom, as he began to sob again.
"Shhhh... Its okay honey. I'm here. Your dads here. Jesse's here. Its all okay now. It was just a dream."
He quieted down a little bit. The nurse gave Spencer a medicine of some kind... I dont really know what, and after about an hour of talking in hushed tones, his parents went back down, and the nurse told us she would be re-stationed just 100 feet away, so if we needed anything, just yell down the hallway, and she would be there instantly.
I thanked her, and she left, closing the door softly.
"Spence?" I called
After a silence, I heard a quiet "Yeah?"
"Are you ok?"
He turned his head around to face me, red puffy eyed.
"What is happening to me?" He said as a tear rolled down his cheek.
"A rare type of Psychostimuli. When Davids friends hit you, they must have done some brain damage" I said with a frown.
He sighed. "Hey, Jess?"
(I liked the nickname)
"Yeah?"
"Can I make a strange request?"
"Sure. If it will make you happy"
He smiled a little. Then looked at me.
"Uhh... So... I was kinda wondering.... Hospitals are cold... and... Your Kinda always warm and..."
"And?" I asked
"Will you... Sleep with me? I'm too scared to sleep alone."
I let out a laugh through my nose.
"I'm sorry, that was stupid. Just.. Goodnight."
"Wait, wait, wait! No, I want-I mean I will sleep with you if it will make you happy."
"Its really OK. I'm fine."
"Spencer, I'm sleeping with you. Like it or not. Plus that cot is really uncomfortable" I said, knowing that the cot was perfectly comfortable just the way it was.
"And you wont get... Weirded out?" He sniffled.
"Not at all" I said with a playful smile.
I walked up to him, and climbed into the HUGE hospital bed. I turned onto my side, and fit my body into his. I put my arm over him, and the last thought I had before I drifted off to sleep was this:
This Is Home.
