Taehyung is sitting on his bed playing with some shells he got from the beach earlier that day. The sun is setting outside and rays of red and orange light creep into Taehyungs room.
He puts the shells into a jar and places them on his desk. He stares at his homework knowing he should probably get started on it, but before he can sit down he hears a tapping on his window.
He walks over and sees Yoongi down in his garden with a few pebbles in his hand. He flashes a gummy smile and everything about the moment seems oddly romantic. The sunset and Yoongi smiling up at him, like some cliché movie.
Taehyung immediately smiles widely when he sees him and grabs his jacket knowing exactly why he's here. Taehyung often sneaked out of the house to hang out with Yoongi. Having parents that were always drunk and violent made him an extrovert. Not that he minded. Although there were harsh consequences when he got caught, and explaining the light bruises to the teachers was hard.
He quickly opened the window and jumped down to the ground. He was on the second floor but the fall never hurt Taehyung too bad.
He smiles at Yoongi and Yoongi punches his shoulder lightly before they begin walking down the street.
"Wanna go back to the woods and see if that dead squirrels still there?" Yoongi asked. They were seventeen and both seemed to be morbidly curious about death like most teenagers.
"It'll be dark soon, wanna head to the river? I bet we can catch the end of the sunset." Taehyung suggested and Yoongi took a moment to think before nodding with a small smile.
They walk in a silence for a while before Yoongi speaks up.
"Is-is that another bruise on your arm?" Yoongi asks and Taehyung bites his lip.
"It's not bad." Taehyung pulls his jacket sleeves.
"It's bad that they touch you like that at all. I know I say it a lot but my parents wouldn't mind taking you in if they knew the situation." Yoongi says seriously.
"I know. But I do love my parents despite all this stuff. Plus, if your parents found out my parents would definitely be in jail and I can't do that to them." Taehyung huffed.
Yoongi keeps quiet after that knowing he'll always lose when it comes to Taehyungs home life situation.
When they get to the river Taehyung smiles and runs ahead of Yoongi to get down the bank. Yoongi shortly follows after him and sits next to Taehyung on the bank. The orange and red of the sunset reflects off the water and its empty all around.
"Yoongi?" Taehyung asks and Yoongi hums.
"Do you think fish like the sunset?" Yoongi laughs at the question thinking Taehyung actually had something serious to ask.
Yoongi shoves Taehyung slightly and they laugh together. Everything's peaceful and they enjoy the warm atmosphere together.
Everything seems so perfect as they watch the sun get lower and lower, both occasionally glacing at eachther and smiling. The chemistry between them was so evident and obvious even to complete strangers.
Taehyung leans his head on Yoongis shoulder and Yoongi sighs in content, running his fingers through Taehyungs soft black hair.
"Yoongi?" Taehyung asks again.
"Yeah?" Yoongi asks as the sun begins to disappear behind the mountains in the distance.
"Do you think that my dad will ever accept me?" Taehyung asks and Taehyung feels Yoongis hand in his hair noticabley tense up.
"Let's not bring it up." Yoongi sighs and Taehyung bites his lip trying to stay quiet.
"Its just..I want us to be able to have a real relationship." Taehyung says without thinking.
Yoongi removes his hand from Taehyungs hair and pushes him off his shoulder.
"I told you not to bring it up." Yoongi says coldly.
"I..I know you don't like talking about it. I'm sorry. I just..I want us to be able to be together." Taehyung sighs.
"We can. You just don't want to. Because your fathers opinion is so damn important to you. He beats you and treats you like shit and you put off a relationship with me just to make him happy!" Yoongi says raising his voice a little too loud.
"I know..But you know he is my dad.." Taehyung would be hurt if it were the first time Yoongi had gotten mad about this. But it's happened countless times. And Taehyung can understand why.
"You say you love me and that you want to be with me, you kiss me and play with my feelings but at the end of the day it's always this 'we can't be serious because my dad' bullshit. I'm sick of it Taehyung. Because really, what am I to you? Am I just some toy you can play with and throw away when you're bored of me? Because I have feelings you know." Yoongi spits as he stands up and begins walking back up the bank.
"Yoongi! Please, wait." Taehyung stands up quickly following him.
"Wait for what? For you to play with me again?" Yoongi growls.
"I'm sorry." Taehyung says softly and leans in to kiss Yoongi.
Yoongi accepts the kiss, because even as low as Taehyung can make him feel, he also makes him feel like he's on cloud nine and suddenly he's in heaven. But that's Yoongis problem, he's too weak for Taehyung, everytime he gets mad about their situation, one kiss, one touch, and his anger fades away. It's hard. Because Yoongi can never get out of the somewhat toxic 'relationship' they have. It's easy for Taehyung, because he's the one calling the shots, and never letting them have anything real. But for Yoongi...The constant change in dynamics is hard. Suddenly they're in love and kissing and the next moment Taehyung's acting like they've never been more than friends. And he fights Taehyung on it, but they always end up like this, Yoongi caught back in the trap of them being nothing yet something. He wants more. He wants all of Taehyung. He wants Taehyungs ups and downs, he wants to kiss him when hes down and cuddle him until he's smiling. He wants to take him on dates and show people their relationship, he wants to love Taehyung with everything he has. He doesn't only want Taehyung when Taehyung wants him. He doesn't want Taehyung when he calls him up crying about how lonely he is until Yoongi will come over and they'll fuck until taehyung zips his jeans back up and pushes Yoongi out the door. He doesn't want whatever they have now.
Taehyung pulls away from the kiss and he can see hot tears all down Yoongis face. Something he's only ever seen twice in their 6 years of friendship.
"Yoongi? Are you okay?" He asks seriously. He's worried.
"I just can't do this anymore." Yoongi sobs.
"I-I love you." Taehyung tries to say somethig else but he's frozen, he's never seen Yoongi cry so hard or be this upset over anything before.
Yoongi just puts his head in his hand and cries harder.
"I'm sorry." Taehyung says, his own eyes welling up with tears.
"But you're not. You're not sorry, Taehyung. You never are. Because deep down you know that you're never going to have something serious with me. You think I don't know, but I can read you like a book Taehyung. And I'm tired of not seeing a future with you yet you just keep dragging this on for your own enjoyment, because you dont want to be alone yet you're so fucking afraid of commitment even though I've always given you all I have. But it stops here." Yoongi looks up with puffy eyes and stares Taehyung down.
Yoongis eyes are burning holes into Taehyungs face and he's afraid to look up.
"I'm sorry... I didn't know you felt this way. I didn't m-mean to hurt you." Taehyung mumbles as he begins to cry.
It's times like this when Yoongi wishes he didn't have a soft spot for Taehyung because even without realising it he pulls the crying boy into his arms. Taehyung is shocked but wraps his arms tightly around Yoongi and cries.
Taehyung pulls back and kisses him softly and of course Yoongi can't push him away. He's too damn weak and in love that he can't.
"I love you." Taehyung sniffs.
"I love you too." Yoongi sighs.
And so the cycle resets itself.
