"I'm sorry I ruined our date," Ryan sighed. He and Will were sat on his bed at home the next day, his leg propped up on the bed with a cast on it to help mend his broken tibia. He felt embarrassed really. The entire accident was all his fault and he felt stupid. And he wasn't even the worst affected by it, physically.

He'd spent most of the previous day setting up for the dinner he'd planned to surprise Will with. He had planned a romantic little dinner in the wood gazebo he had in his backyard but he needed to fix it up a little to make it good enough. He knew he needed help so he asked Dale and Robbie to lend a hand — the girls wouldn't have been able to keep it a secret, Ryan knew that. So, after a day of preparing food for dinner, showing off a bit of his cooking skills, the three guys spent the afternoon painting a few parts that had begun to peel, hanging up little lanterns, and tying up flower chains to make it look a bit nicer.

When Dale left to make sure Will was ready, Ryan decided that the gazebo wasn't decorated enough, even with Robbie telling him otherwise. Ryan ignored him, rummaging through his house to find the fairy lights that his mother usually used for the Christmas tree. Once they were found, the teen climbed the ladder, fairy lights in hand, ready to hang them up.

Looking back, Ryan wasn't exactly sure what happened. He remembered the box of lights falling out of his hands, and in his panic, he went out to reach for them. Stupidly. In his panic, he also forgot that he was up on a ladder. So, when he reached out, the ladder began to tip over and he fell right along with it. Ryan happened to land on an unsuspecting Robbie, while the ladder landed heavily on his leg.

And so, that's how both boys ended up in hospital: Ryan with a broken leg and Robbie with cracked ribs. Luckily, the break wasn't bad, so Ryan's leg was easily set and a cast was put on, while Robbie had to be careful not to turn the cracked ribs into broken ones. But apparently they should heal on their own in a month or two, which was sort of good news, Ryan guessed.

Who was he kidding, none of this was good. It was all his fault and he felt absolutely awful, like he should be. "Stupid Ryan," he muttered to himself.

"Don't be like that, Ry, it's not your fault," Will reassured him, pulling the injured boy to his side and placing a quick peck on his cheek.

Ryan sighed, resting his head on his boyfriend's shoulder. "Yes it is," he muttered sadly. "You're just saying that 'cause your my boyfriend and you have to say that."

"No, it was an accident," Will responded for maybe the fiftieth time. "Dale and Rob don't even blame you, so you gotta stop." Ryan just grunted, obviously not wanting to listen to him. Will sighed. "C'mon, let's go downstairs and have some of that food you prepared yesterday," he suggested, needing a reason to get out of that damn room. And try to distract Ryan too.

"But I can't cook with this damn cast," the other boy sighed. He wasn't all that hungry either. Nor did he feel like getting up. He just wanted to cuddle up with Will and sleep for days to try and forget about his stupidity.

"You're not the only one who can cook, you numpty," Will retorted, hopping up off the bed. "Now c'mon, let's get going," he pushed, pulling his boyfriend up and handing him the crutches. Ryan took them reluctantly, knowing he wasn't getting out of this, no matter what he did.

"No, you gotta heat up the pan first before you put in the oil!" Ryan exclaimed about half an hour later. He'd spent most of the time ordering Will around the kitchen as he sat on a stool at the island. Will mostly ignored him, constantly telling him that he knew what he was doing.

"I know what I'm doing, Ryan," he said as such. "So shush it and let me cook this meat. Just sit there and look pretty, ok?" Ryan scowled at him, arms crossed as he glared. Will rolled his eyes as he returned his attention back to the pan in front of him.

With the meat fried and all the sides prepared, Will placed all the dishes on the kitchen island and sat next to Ryan, serving the food for him. "I have a broken leg not a broken arm, I can serve myself. I'm not a child," Ryan grumbled.

"I'm aware you're not a child, Ry, I'm not a pedo. I thought I'd be nice and serve you," Will replied nicely as he placed the plate in from of Ryan. Although he was a bit turned off by his boyfriend's grouchiness, Will reminded himself of the other boy's predicament and took a deep breath to shake off the ill feeling.

"I'm sorry, I-uh-I just... I just feel like I've been doing a lot of stupid stuff lately. Not just the ladder thing but also other things. I don't know what they are exactly but I feel like a lot of the decisions I've made lately were stupid and I've been doing everything wrong, y'know..." Ryan confessed. He didn't know where this was coming from, really. He'd been hiding this for so long, he'd suppressed it and let it pent up, and here he was, finally opening it up and letting Will inside. He took a stuttered breath, trying to hold back his impending tears.

Will sat quietly, absorbing what Ryan had just told him. As it filled his brain, a thought he'd had quite a while ago resounded in his head. "And me? Am I one of your stupid decisions?" he asked quietly. He didn't really want to know the answer, to be honest. He wanted to live in that fantasy where everything was perfect, but it seems that he had to wake up now.

"No!" Ryan exclaimed, shaking his head profusely. "You... You, Will, are the only right decision I've ever made. Why would you say that?" he asked, letting a few tears fall.

"I just thought that-that I made you, I don't know, made you come out to be with me, y'know, and mad people think you're gay and made you something you're not, and-and," Will explained, not sure exactly what he was saying, or what he meant, really. "I just thought one day you'd regret being with me," Will muttered, staring down at his empty plate.

Ryan took the other boy's face in his hand and made Will look at him. "I will never regret it, ok?" Ryan reassured, staring deep into Will's eyes. Dark chocolate-y brown, much darker than his own. He loved them, to be honest. Blue was overrated.

Will nodded. He believed him. He knew Ryan was telling the truth. There were no regrets in this relationship. For now. And they both hoped that it would stay that way. "I love you," Will whispered, not trusting his voice right now.

Ryan smiled. "I love you too," he said back, leaning forward to give his boyfriend a kiss. It was short and sweet. And exactly what the two needed right then.

The two teens pulled apart to return to their dinner. Neither one was all that hungry right then but Will served himself some and they both tucked in. No point wasting food, both their mothers would say.

"I need something sweet now," Will thought aloud. The two boys were sat on the lounge about two hours later, watching the TV but not really paying all that much attention to it. They had both been in their own heads really.

"What kind of sweet do you want?" Ryan asked, head in Will's lap staring up at him. He'd just been thinking about whether he could afford to get Will a new camera for his 18th birthday in a few months or if he'd have to gather a few people up to get it.

"I feel like cake and icing," Will said after thinking about it for a bit. He wasn't sure where the craving was coming from but he needed something super sweet. And there was nothing as sugary sweet as icing.

"I think we have some cupcake mix we can bake and that canned Betty Crocker icing stuff, will that do, babe?" Ryan asked, trying to remember what he had in the cupboards. He hadn't thought of dessert for the dinner yesterday and a morbid part of him was kinda glad for the accident now.

"Yeah, sounds good to me," Will agreed as he reached for the crutches to pass to Ryan. They both stood up and they made their way slowly to the kitchen. Ryan hadn't gotten used to the crutches yet and he desperately just wanted to walk normally, even though it had only been a day. But the pain that shot up his leg any time he put too much pressure on the injured leg reminded him that yeah, he should probably stick to the crutches.

Once they made it into the kitchen, Ryan sat himself down at the kitchen island once again as Will rummaged around the cupboards that Ryan told to look in for all the things they needed to bake.

"It's a shame I didn't break my leg closer to the mock exams," Ryan said as Will pulled the eggs, milk and butter out of the fridge. "I could've gotten out of them."

"You broke your leg, how would that get you out of exams?" Will asked as he placed the ingredients on the table.

"It's an injury, they can't force an injured person into doing exams," Ryan shrugged, emptying the cake mix sachet into the mixing bowl.

"If Nelson can go to school every day in a wheelchair, you can do the exams, babe," Will reasoned. "The only way you'd get out of exams is if you broke your left hand, and that's only because no one would be able to read what you wrote if you wrote with your right."

"What's that supposed to mean?" Ryan frowned, pouring in the milk that Will had just passed him.

"Ry, c'mon. Your handwriting normally is less intelligible than that scrawl doctors have, it would just be scribble if you used your right hand," Will explained as he cracked eggs into the bowl. Ryan just made a face at him, starting to mix the cake batter.

"These are so good," Will moaned as he took a bit of a freshly cooked cupcake. He followed the bit with a spoonful of icing from the can. Probably wasn't the healthiest thing he should eat but he didn't care. The sugary goodness was all that mattered.

"You're supposed to let 'em cool first so we could ice them, babe," Ryan laughed, placing the remaining cupcakes Will handed raided onto a cooling rack.

"Don't care," the other boy retorted around a mouthful of cake. Ryan just shook his head, sitting back down on the stool next to his boyfriend. "Here, try some," Will offered, lifting the cupcake heaped with frosting to Ryan's lips, who opened his mouth to take a bite. Unluckily, he didn't notice the mischievous glint in his boyfriend eye so, when he opened his mouth, Ryan was met with a faceful of cake and frosting smeared all over. The injured boy's mouth hung open wider in shock, not entirely sure what had happened, while Will almost fell off the stool in laughter.

"What the hell was that?!" Ryan exclaimed, wiping some icing out of his eyes.

"Icing, babe," the other boy replied non-chalantly. "It's a good look on you," he added, his voice laced with a teasing tone as he wiped a bit of it off with his index finger.

Ryan watched him lift the finger to his mouth and lick the icing off. To be honest, he found it kind of a turn on. They could both feel the sexual tension grow between the two of them, inevitable since they were both teenage boys who hadn't gotten some in quite a long time, to them at least. So, when Will began to lean in, so did Ryan, as they met for a kiss, though Will was still mindful that half of Ryan's face was covered in icing.

The passion was fierce, as it always was, as their lips moved together in an electrifying dance. Ryan pulled Will to him by the waist, needed them to be closer, as Will took Ryan's face in his hands, no longer caring about the icing. The sugariness made it a whole lot better, if Will were to be honest. Neither one was sure where all this was coming from, the passion, the electricity, the heat. They'd felt this before when they'd been making out, sure, but not this intensely. It was like the dial had suddenly been turned up to 10. They'd released so many pent-up emotions today, maybe this was just part of it. Or maybe Will had just had too much sugar. Either way, neither one was complaining as they enjoyed the ferocity.

A part of Will's mind remembered a part of Jungle Heat he'd been reading where Chad and Giovanni first "make love" and how he'd thought the description was superfluous and over-the-top. But here, right now, he actually understood the words that he had read, the fiery passion and sizzling heat. He and Ryan could actually be Chad and Giovanni in that moment, except Ryan's leg was broken, they weren't in the Amazon, and he didn't just suck snake poison out of Ryan's arm. But it was close enough.

And oh so good.
