Chapter 13
At the pack meeting, Jace sat with his sister and May. May really didn't mind Jace being so close and loving towards her mate. He was loving towards her as well. Zero and Langy had sat her down to explain that Jace missed them. They were his sisters; that he loved dearly. Like Amber loves Langy. To her he was another brother. Jace sees her like Amber sees Langy. This is understood. She was a big sister to a really beautiful boy.
"In lighter news. June has someone she wants to introduce to the pack. He will be staying with us for a while, visiting. Show him respect and help him out if needed." Alpha Blackwood held out his hand, "June."
June jumped up, pulling her brother up with her. "This is my brother! I have a brother. Jace! Jace this is the pack, pack this is Jace!" The pack laughed at her excitement before welcoming the young wolf.
"Hello," Jace waved back. Some of the females awed over how beautiful the guy was. An older female commented that men weren't supposed to be that pretty. Jace hid his face as he hurried to take his seat by May. Instinctively May placed Jace behind her with lovely arms.
"During his stay I do have to caution parents and our teens. Jace has unfortunately shifted too early in life. His wolf is a bit wild. The pack was able to keep him from going rogue. He has trained with the War Wolves.
"It actually sounds worse than what you might think. Jace is a very outgoing person. He has fit right in with our children. His knowledge of our history and pack life is very impressive. Along with his knowledge of War wolves. Jace has been able to help Langdon in aiding his gift. He was raised by the old ancient Empathy.
"I just want the parents to be notified. There is a chance. Jimmy has taken the position of watching over him, just in case."
Rubbing his hands together, "Now, do we have anymore mates?"
No teen raised their hands.
"That's a shame. I was hoping for more mates."
Bret, the big shot player; let out a breath. He wasn't ready for a mate. That meant he couldn't play around with all the single tail running around. However he felt his beast becoming unsettled. Like he was searching. He hated this feeling.
"Alpha," Bret raised his hand.
"Bret, what can I help you with?"
"My wolf is unsettled. Lately I've looked at almost every wolf here." Shrugging his shoulders. "Just wondering if there is something I could do?"
"Pay attention to when your wolf calms down. Is there a time he's happier than others?"
Squinting his eyes, he really never found a happier time. If there was any, it was at the pack meeting. That meant she didn't hang around with their class. A lower classman.
"Thanks Alpha." he sat back.
Zero really didn't like his cocky attitude or the way he treats some of the girls; human or wolf. He did know what it was like to have a wolf aware of his mate and unable to find them.
As the wolves filed around he made his way over to the wolf sitting by himself. Bret normally has un-mated females hanging over him. Tonight he seemed off in his own world.
"Hey man," Zero approached.
Bret's eyes widened for a moment, composing himself he showed his neck. He and Zero never really were friends. Never went out of their way to be mean to each other or anything. Actually Bret didn't know why he and Zero never were friends. For him to come over now was out of the ordinary. Bret straightened up as he went back to staring out in space.
"I know what it's like to search for your mate. Langdon drove me crazy."
"I can see that." Bret looked down. One would think that a pack wouldn't want two Alpha's to lead them. However Langdon called him when he couldn't get to the phone to catch up. Wasn't mad just worried about that something had happened to him. He seemed to be a cool guy.
"Not to suggest, only asking from experience. Looking at the wrong sex?" Bret shot him a look, "Hey I was checking out the females when my wolf was alert. Langdon walks over to me and heaven opened up."
"I never thought about that."
He hadn't. Like Zero he had always dated girls. A male mate had never crossed his mind. It would settle his issues of not wanting children. That would settle a few issues he had about mating. Not having a female would give a friendship. He was looking for someone who liked watching the game or just plain hanging out. A friend with the benefits of a mate.
"Here at the pack house my wolf is more settled."
"A lower classman, ouch."
Bret nodded, his thoughts exactly. Someone he would have to wait on.
As Zero was over with Bret, Langdon was talking more with Jace. He had found his personality to be very amusing. His knowledge of the werewolf life was outstanding. Asking about a section in the book that was given to him. Jace nodded.
A blood tie is where a witch can cast a spell to the pack where the Empathy can receive the packs thoughts. It also ties to one person which would be his mate. The witch would have to have a mate, a wolf mate. After the blood tie is cast; no one can touch the witch. The pain would be too great, only a mate could touch and not cause pain.
Blood ties are taken in pride. A white shall vow a legacy to a pack if the Empathy does. An Empathy's witch would wait until the Empathy is completely trusting in the pack and the Alpha. David knew how to commutate with his mate in different ways. Until the blood tie was given.
"Zero said that Empathic wolves are too strong for a female mate."
"If they are male. An Empathy-" Jace paused. Then moved closer, waved him down towards his level. "Can be stronger than an Alpha." He whispered, "However an Empathy goes through mood swings cause of the emotions around him. A female wolf cannot battle the Empathy's strength. She is too weak. A War wolf, Alpha, or Beta could be strong enough."
"What's going on here?" Zero's voice was tight.
"Jace is explaining more. The information just shared could not be shared with everyone. I'll tell you later."
"Okay," he sat down, pulled Langdon beside him. "Jace this is Bret. Bret, June's brother Jace."
"Hello!" Jace chirped. "Welcome to the talkative corner!"
Bret laughed at the smaller wolf. Within minutes Jace had all three wolves laughing at the cheesy jokes. His outgoing personality was placed into the words he used. Giving the atmosphere a surrounding electrical charge.
Wolves lined the woods waiting for the hunting party to return. Jace sat in the back with Cherry, May, June and Langdon. While the hunt was going on, Jace walked the woods behind Langdon. Picked herbs, roots, and flowers. He made the girls flower necklaces. Langdon laughed so hard that his wolf sounded like it was barking. Until Jace went after him with a necklace. Not to hurt his feelings, he let Jace place one necklace on his neck. He braided Cherry's hair with lots of flowers. The comment was made that he learned to do a lot of things living life like he had. Cherry never asked one question.
Paying attention to Jace while he was walking around, Langdon noticed that Jace was at home in the woods. His wolf was calm. They truly felt comfortable around nature. Which brought a curiosity within Langdon. He wanted to know where his wolf was going rogue or had been. To him, he felt more comfortable with Jace than the other wolves.
With all the pack locked safely in the cabins. The War wolves shifted. On the porch was the Beta's and Jace. Tonight he got to run with the War wolves. This excited him. From the safety of the windows, the leader house watched. Nathanial stood below on the bottom step. Ordering Jace to shift, he dropped the robe and shifted on the porch. Fully in wolf form, he sat between Gregory and Daren.
"Jace come down here."
Step by step, he went to Nathanial's side. Taking a hand, he laid on his head, "This wolf is mine," he growled at the War wolves. "He belongs to me. You get no rights."
The War wolves growled.
"Watch over him. Allow him to run, to hunt. Bring him back to me, unharmed."
Jace walked down to the War wolves. They snapped their sharp teeth, growled a malice sound. His hackles rose, crouching, he bared his teeth. The War wolves formed a circle around him.
"Nathanial?" Gregory shifted uneasily on the porch.
The house was silent. Jace would be torn to shreds. Challenging a War wolf will be the end of all mistakes. Jace shifted her back left foot, one of the War wolves snapped at her hind leg. He growled and snapped back. One of the wolves in front lunge are him. Jace went down to his side. The War wolf snatched a hold of his neck. The War wolves surrounded him. Nathanial, Gregory, and Daren bolted down the steps to rescue him. Nathanial barked orders to release him. On further inspection, the War wolves were holding him down. Each had a vulnerable part of his body while one was licking his stomach. A low grow came from the small wolf.
Patting the wolf that was licking his stomach, he looked up at the Alpha. "Let him up." The wolves let go. Jace jumped up, unharmed. Shook off the dirt. Wagging his tail, he took off running towards the woods. Snapping the War wolves went after him. Watching the wolves, Nathanial looked back at his Beta's.
"What just happened?"
The families stepped out on the porch. June's cries were heard and May trying to calm her down. Vera was worried that the War wolves would tear Jace into pieces. Within minutes a howl lit up the air.
"Ivan," Nathanial listened, another howl. "Jimmy." Another howl, then two more. The last sound was a sweet musical howl. Next all six wolves howled.
"That is so pretty," Cherry tried to whisper.
"What are they doing?"
"Hunting, they must have caught a kill."
"So soon?" Zero asked.
"Jace probably caught a rabbit, he really doesn’t like deer." Langdon answered, "And didn't you guys push the deer that way?"
"True," Aaron nudged Zero, "We'll go with it."
The fathers laughed at their sons.
All of a sudden a golden color wolf broke free of the heavy outline of trees and ran over towards the lake. The War wolves were right behind him with two deer. The boys groaned causing a few chuckles. Jace at his rabbit, well parts of the rabbit. Then carried it back to the woods.
"What is he doing?" June was curious at her brother's actions.
"He's-" Zero blew out a breath. "Heck, June I don't know. Dad?"
Nathanial laughed. "Looks to me, Jace is giving his kill to the scavengers. And-" They watched him head back over to the lake. "Washing his face." Jace's tongue began to lick the blood off of his face.
"You had to wait until he was there before you knew." Zero popped off to more laughter.
By the morning the War wolves had huddled up together. With a light colored wolf mixed in them. Vera was afraid that they were going to smash the smaller Jace. Nathanial was curious has how easily they've accepted him. Jace wasn't afraid of the War wolves where he should be.
Telling them to raise, the pack was out for the day. Easily they got up off of Jace, who stretched out and yawned. Greeting the Alpha by rubbing up on his leg, Nathanial bent down.
"Can you hear my wolves?" he asked while stroking his head.
Jace nodded. Narrowing his eyes, he told him to go get dressed. Once all wolves were shifted, washed and dressed. The Alpha called the War wolves to follow him. One he was not happy with them pinning Jace down. Two how is it that he could hear them?
"Alpha, we are sorry that we attacked him the way we did. Our attentions were that of a greeting. That boy is far from a rogue. He's a War wolf."
"What?" Nathanial raised his eyebrows.
"That boy is a War wolf. He's small but none the less."
"I've never heard of a submissive War wolf."
"Think about it. He's more comfortable with us. He would not back down from us. Even though we had him pinned, he was growling at us. He can talk to us. Last night we listened to stories about that Empathy and old War wolf."
Ivan and Main looked towards their Alpha, Ivan pointed. "That Empathy knows about him. That's why they took him in. Jace's wolf allows him to know the pack even in wolf form and human form. He said that they trained her. The Empathy taught him his way, spells, magic. A wolf has no need for that knowledge. Why would he tell Jace?"
"I was thinking about at the Alpha. His actions was off. When he was holding Jace, he almost seemed stiff. Why wouldn't he tell you about Jace?"
"Personally I think the reason why he shifted early was him and his wolf needed more time to bond. There is a reason, it isn't he's rogue."
"Jace does have a wildness about him, but it isn't harmful. After spending last night with her, that boy is a War wolf."
The silence was broken by June and May yelling at Jace. Telling him not to go swimming, it was dangerous. Jace argued that he was a strong swimmer. All they had to do was kick back and relax. Next a splash was heard and June screamed her brother's name. The Alpha and his wolves walked to where the family was standing.
"He hasn't come up!" June cried, "May!"
"Hold on," Nathanial ordered Zero to stop. He wanted to see what he could do.
A minute ticked by...no Jace.
Another minute...no Jace.
2:49 into watching air bubbles surfaced. Another 15 seconds came by when Jace broke the surface. In his hand was a bunch of jewelry.
"Your lake holds a lot of treasures." He handed them to the Alpha. Then took off running back to the lake. Driving off the dock, he swam to the middle of the lake then drove down.
As he popped back up, the Alpha yelled at him. "Jace, look at me!"
Turning around, his fangs were extended. His eyes held a brownish golden tint. Jace's wolf was swimming.
"His wolf can swim."
"I'm telling you, there is a reason that Empathy trained her."
"Keep an eyes on him. Let him full range." Nathanial told the War wolves.
"What's going on?" Daren, Gregory and Vera asked before anyone else could.
"My wolves say that Jace is a War wolf."
Silence held the wolves around him. A submissive War wolf, impossible. Right?
