Chapter 15
"Alpha, I cannot fool his beast. There is something I must tell you, Gregory and Daren. Something the werewolf, vampire, or any other community does not know unless they hold an Empathy wolf." Tatom looked up. "Truly I mean no harm. My job is to help you and Langdon. Whatever you decide I shall respect."
Slowly he nodded; opening the door. "Langdon could you come here?"
Langdon hurried to the front door with Zero directly behind him. His eyes landed on the witch. Smiling Tatom waved. There was a moment of excitement flowing through him.
"Look how beautiful you both are!" Tatom laughed in pure happiness. "Your beast! Black as a wolf can be! Eyes like the purest emeralds."
"Who are you?" Langdon stepped forward, only to find Zero taking a hold of his waist.
"I'm Tatom, your witch!"
A growl came in a burst with his beast pushing forward. Both his voice and the beast was heard.
"Tatom, we have been waiting a long time. Eighteen years."
"My apologies, as you know times are different."
"You are here when we truly need you." Langdon gripped Zero's hand, "He is who he says. This is Tatom, our witch."
Tatom gave a grand smile.
His bags were kept at the door. Trust still needed to be established. Gregory and Daren came over with their families. Tatom introduce himself to the Betas and the future Betas by name. Langdon laughed at his vibrating aura. Feeling his mate, caused Zero to laugh. Meeting the War wolves gave him excitement, he had always thought War wolves were marvelous creatures.
"Tatom, they are all here start talking."
"Yes sir-Alpha." He wrinkled his nose. "I must ask for them to vow an oath to never speak of this. Some of what I have to say is kept secret to protect the Empathy. It must never be written down or spoke of again. The only one that can bring it up again is Langdon."
Alpha stood up, "Speak your name," names were spoken. Cherry was told what to say, then she spoke. "Do you swear a solid vow to protect this secret within ourselves, vow your oath to me as your vow is your honor. Or you may leave in this immediately.”
Those swore a vow of righteous that death could not have broken. Tatom took a moment to figure out how to explain what was needed to be spoken. Inhaling a deep breath, he slowly exhaled.
"On the day you were born Langdon, I was. We were born at the exact same time. Took our first breaths together. A part of your soul is within me. A part of my soul is within you. Your beast owes me, for I have been with you every step of the way. When an Empathy wolf is born, a witch is born to help the Empathy in life. Unfortunately, the war broke when we were born. Kept my mother from finding you. Normally we would have grown up together.
"Instead I have dreamt of you every night for as long as I can remember. I know your moods, your soul, and your beast. I am able to see him without you turning into him. Your wolf is him. A coat so black it shines. He loves the smell of water, this is why when he shows himself to you he is by water and trees."
Langdon nodded; chocking a bit. "He says this is true."
Tatom chuckled, "I know your mate. I know his Beta's. Unfortunately I will be closer to them than the fathers for you are with a son. However my legacy shall be vowed to both."
"A legacy?"
"This is where it get slightly complicated. Only time a witch can enter a wolf pack is a legacy. This can only happen if my mate as come. Until then, I can only kept you. If I see someone attacking the Alpha or Zero or anyone else I cannot help. My job is you. I shall allow Zero to die before you are harmed." Before Langdon could talk, he threw up his hands. "Once I give a legacy I can help protect the pact."
"What do you have to do for this legacy?" Nathanial understood more than the others. He could see this was difficult for the young witch.
"A mate has to be present at the time. He can only touch me until the Alpha blood moves through my system. I will be in more pain than anyone can imagine. My mate can touch me without hurting me. He will stand guard over me or I should say it will keep him from striking out at the Alpha. We know how that will play out."
"The old Empathy that we met, he didn't have a witch." One of the War wolves growled this. They were not trusting no outsiders. Especially one that is so close to their Alpha.
Tatom's eyes sadden for a moment, he was hoping that this conversation would be held off to a later date or never at all.
"The witch that held the bond with Empathy died years ago when the war broke out. She gave the last magic knowledge to William before Savage's men out numbered her." There was more to the story that he wasn't wanting to share straight out of the gate. Shifting in the seat,
"People or witches I guess, say that the reason the witch that is tied to an Empathy only exist because of the Empathy. My mother says it's only a bonus that I am tied to an Empathy wolf. We are a part of the same energy. The reason a Empathic wolf needs a witch is for the magic that flows through you and the beast. You may not able to work the spells, however they cannot harm you where they can harm the others. I can teach you to block those spells from harming the pack.
Shrugging, "I guess my reward for being a good little witch is a wolf mate, just not any wolf a War wol–"
"Alpha?" Jace's sweet voice interrupted Tatom. His eyes lit up at the sound of the voice. Walking in Jace stopped. "I'm so sorry." Jace looked towards Nathanial, "Forgive me."
"Jace" Tatom was standing now and waiting.
"TATOM." Jace threw his arms around him. The smile he wore turned into a devilish grin. Pointing at Jace, his grin grew into his eyes.
"How have you been?" Jace pulled back and asked.
"Good, and you?"
"Look! My sister, June!" Jace yelled. May and June came around the corner. "June, May this is Tatom, the witch I was telling you about."
"Hi Tatom!" June squeaked.
"Hello ladies pleasure to meet you." Tatom kept an arm around Jace. Much pleasure was coming out of having Jace there in beside him.
"Do you know the Alpha?"
"Just met him actually. I'm here for Langdon."
His eyes widened, "You're his witch?"
"I am, hopefully I will be staying around."
"Hope you do. I can show you around. I like it here."
"Promise?"
"Of course!" Jace stood up on his toes and kissed Tatom on the cheek. Causing a bright smile of Tatom's face.
"Jace what did you need sweetie?" Vera thought it was a good idea to get the conversation going again. Zero didn't like how Tatom was handling Jace. Since his arrival he's taken him under his wing like June and May.
"Oh I need another bowl, we found more roots."
"Come on, I will help you."
Vera took Jace away from Tatom and pointed her finger. He chuckled before sitting back down.
"Can't help it. That is one fine wolf." Blowing out a breath. "Too bad he wasn't my mate. I would be the happiest man right now."
Langdon shook his head.
"What? I can't help it that I'm attracted to that beautiful-come on! Even a straight man has to take notice that Jace is bottom line beautiful." Tatom fell back into the couch laughing at Langdon's expression.
"The girl are back out in the woods with Jace." Vera came back in. "How do you know Jace?" she asked.
"The Council Society. He was there with the former Alpha a couple of years ago. We kept in contact since."
"Jace was there?" Daren didn't remember seeing Jace among the werewolves.
"Surprisingly you don't recognize him. He spoke before the clan elders during the meeting."
"I don't remember him." Nathanial narrowed his eyes as he tried to remember.
"He spoke about the decrease of War wolves in the werewolf community. How the children are kept from their true destiny."
"That was Jace?"
"Yes sir, the former Alpha had him speak for the ancient pack."
"Usually a War wolf speaks."
Tatom looked confused, "He is a War wolf. Why didn't the Alpha tell you that?"
"No," Nathanial growled.
"Jace is a specialty War wolf. A gem. He is a Spirit wolf. Connected to all War wolves."
"Excuse me?" Ivan growled.
"A Spirit wolf." Tatom nodded, "Why weren't you told?"
"An answer I will be finding out," Nathanial's voice ended with a deep growl.
Further into the conversation Langdon was told that his brother will be joining them soon. The second oldest, Jalin. He too was a War wolf, a Rage wolf. This type of War wolf only gets stronger in battle. As of right now he was out of control. His rage was so grand that one wrong move could cost them some terrible mistakes. To help calm him down, they held one important wolf. Luckily the Alpha allowed Jace to come, cause he was Jalin's mate. A Rage wolf needs someone who is completely submissive. Jace just happens to be that very wolf. One to calm him down and keep him from going rogue. Which might be an issue. The last time Tatom checked up on him, he was fighting a lot of wolves and even humans.
Once they get Jalin in and calmed down. He will call the oldest brother Dalson. Soon word reaches him, Dalson will be on his way. Also another War wolf. Tatom slipped in that either brother has not shared his soul with anyone. The Alpha and his son had taken interest in this.
Daren cleared his throat, he knew some about how a legacy works and the witch community. "I thought witches gives an oath to their coven. Once that was done, it could not be broken. Unless a great act was committed."
A tear washed down Tatom's cheek. For Tatom to break his oath to the witches he had to act against the community. A part of him didn't want to speak but he needed this pack to trust him. He's only concern was helping Langdon.
Whatever years ago, werewolves and witches would work together. It was said this is why wolves can change whenever they want. The witches had lifted the moon curse. At a point in history werewolves could only change during a full moon. A betrayal happened. Witches say the wolves, the wolves say the witches.
Some of the witch community still believe that the wolves betrayed the witch. With that, they want nothing to do with their kind. An elder of Tatom's coven or community, Liz never made clear on who said it. Forbid Tatom to leave home. His mother was prepared to follow Bailey, to help her.
Liz was already dying. Between Tatom's mother and her, they set up a way for Tatom to breathe the oath. After Liz had spoken to the Alpha, she made Tatom hide his belongings. Had him study harder and vow a secret to her. A promise to end her life when the pain grew too great. What he didn't know was his mother and Liz created an elixir for the pain to grow. He betrayed the witch community by killing Liz.
Alpha Blackwood apologized for his lost. He understood what Liz had done. A mercy killing may not have broken the oath. Liz made sure that he had a way out of the community.
While the leaders were in the den speaking among themselves and calling the ancient pack. The future sat waiting and wanting their own answers. However, they respected their Alpha.
"What do we do now?"
"Well I find a place to stay. Training must be kept away from other wolves. Not all training, just the emotional parts. I have a message for Bailey, then I need to enroll in school. You my friend are stuck with me." Tatom smiled.
Peeking in on the future pack, Nathanial noted how easily Langdon trusted the witch. He had no choice but to allow his. Liz had been correct on her knowledge. Showed she meant no harm, gave a warning. The pack could use a bit of help.
Relaxing after a long trip, Tatom thought about what he left at home. He had to break up with his boyfriend of almost two years. His mother, who was more than excited for him to meet Langdon and his mate. However, he loved his boyfriend. Never wanted to break his heart.
"Would you come between Zero and Langdon?"
Amber's question snapped him out of his thoughts. "No, Zero will learn that I love Langdon, but differently. I would never come between them. A witch and Empathy are close. Zero is his mate. Hopefully with time, he shall see I truly mean what I speak."
"What if Daddy says no."
"When the war comes, I shall only help Langdon."
Zero cleared his throat, "Amber enough. Tatom has been honest. He has offered a legacy to us, allowing him to help us. If father does say no, we will not get him. And Langdon will have a harder time learning his true potential."
The Alpha and his Beta's stepped back into the living room. All eyes went to him.
"We actually have no choice. Langdon needs him. Tatom you can stay within the territory."
Tatom stood up, gave a slight bow of the head. "Thank you Alpha."
“Zero," Zero looked at his father. "I spoke to the Empathy. He says that it's true what Tatom speaks. Help find a place for Tatom to live. You need to keep him close to Langdon, just in case. During training his gift can become messed up until he learns to control it better. Especially since they have not grown up together.
"I was told that it will be hard for Langdon. Due to the years he has not had the guidance of a witch for the magic within him. I would say, try to get him a house close but yet it might be wise to get him a house closer to the woods. Just in case of Langdon's mood swings I've been warned about."
"Yes father." Zero jumped up. Went for the housing map. "Well that might be a problem. I might have to see if I can move a family or two."
"Get it done. If we have a Rage wolf coming. It might be best to keep him away from the pack. The War wolves can circle the house in wolf form and not scare the pack."
"Boys you are to help keep an eye on Tatom. With what is going on, Savage might see this as a threat or a trophy. We don't need to advertise that a witch is here." Gregory added.
Tatom gave a smile to Langdon, this was the beginning. They will be able to work on the years that the witches’ community took from them. In time, Alpha Blackwood will receive the strongest Empathy wolf that has been known to walk the earth. With all the time that has taken place, the knowledge that has been gathered. Langdon will become the strongest Empathy. Tatom wouldn't give up until then. He was going to do his job, and do it better than any other witch ever could.
