Chapter 27
Rita carried baby boy in her arms as she hurried to get to Kelly. Something was going on with the wolves. They were gathering up. Savage had order her to stay away from them. Besides that, his wolf was showing. Never a good sign when they are gearing up and his wolf is showing.
Seeing Rita coming towards her, Kelly hurried over. As their eyes met, Kelly gathered her and the baby into her arms. Rita didn’t know what was going on either.
While baby boy played with his toys Rita and Kelly sat watching him; worried about what Savage’s next move was. After this passed week the other females have been working their way over. Trying to get closer to them. One of the younger female wolves was hurt by her mate. Just because she didn’t clean up the way he wanted. The younger female stood up for herself. Stating mates were to protect one and another, not harm them.
Kelly felt sorry for her, the younger wolf was correct. Growing up in this pack, you had to learn to survive. Her mindset was her mate would save her. Normally a mate would do what it took to protect one’s mate. In this pack, something dark lied deep within the wolves. Something sinister.
“What’s this?” Savage growled from behind the women.
The women jumped up. Rita couldn’t keep herself was crying. Tears spilled out and whimpers followed behind. Fear of what he would do surfaced quicker than she could stop them. Rita couldn’t handle the beatings anymore.
“Shut it,” Savage stepped forward like he was going to shut her up.
Rita crowd back, “We’re scared Savage.” Kelly swallowed her tongue. That one moment of bravery would be her down fall. “What I mean is, you’re geared up and gathering the wolves. You don’t tell us what’s going on. Rita loves you as much as I. We do think about the what if you do not return to us.”
His eyes scanned her face. Rita shook in fear from his anger. He must agree that it has been up and down a lot this week. Never agreeing that out loud. His wolf was in agreement that they were scared. Of him not returning was the question.
“I always return.”
“You do. Our fear is you won’t. You just gave Rita a child. Who will show the boy how to be a man if his father does not return?” All Rita could do was nod her head. Speaking was out of the question.
Whining as she dropped her head and tucked her arms around herself. Savage seen this action. Mistaking it for fear of him leaving, he walked over and tucked an arm around her and Kelly.
“I shall return. There is a job I must do. I know of a wolf who is in need of a hand. Tracking him as been rather hard. As the Alpha of this pack, I am extending my hand to help this poor wolf.
“My trackers have located the Damned one. I feel that it’s time the wolf community try’s to help him out. It has been years that this wolf has seen his mortal body.”
“No!” Rita tugged on Savage’s shirt. “He’s a monster! He kills wolves and humans. Please do not go!” Tears fell like raindrops upon her cheeks.
Savage chuckled, “My little whore, listen to me. I am extending a hand to help him. He does not kill wolves. I have a witch that knows how to lift the curse that is upon him.”
Kelly knew of the Damned one. He has been a wolf so long that the human side of him is no more. Centuries has fall upon the earth since the last time the wolf has seen his legs or hands as a man. Cursed by a witch for turning his back upon the community. Or so the story goes. Kelly figured it was something more or completely different than what the story says.
Snapping out of her thoughts was Rita telling Savage to be careful as she made him promise to come home to them. When it was the other; they both secretly wished he would never return. It pays to be a grand actor around this house.
After kisses were given, Savage squeezed her dairy-air telling her that once he comes home she was his tonight. Kelly rubbed up against him, like she always does. Put on a smile; like she always does. Took a few little nibbles on his earlobe, he growled. Savage was one who enjoyed play time better than anybody.
“I promise to be very bad while you’re gone.” Kelly bit her lip.
“I promise to punish you when I get home.”
There were times Kelly did see a strong mate in him. A mate that once vowed to protect her, love her, cherish her. Then behind those same eyes is the man who stole her life. Stole her right to enjoy life. Her beast even pretend now. They were one with each other to run. Knowing that Rita wasn’t a strong runner, they couldn’t leave her behind. She had become their life source here in this dark vile world of a pack.
Once Savage had gone, Kelly snatched Rita’s hand and gathered up the baby. They hurried over to another woman who had been born into the pack as well. Kelly gave her the look to follow, the woman finished her sewing. This they’ve done many times. The men always watched what the women do. As if they were trying to figure out what they were scamming against them.
She walked over to the ironing broad where Kelly was sitting with the baby and Rita. The two women had gathered up some sewing and began to work. While baby boy snuggled down into his basket for a nap. The woman told Rita to hand her a shirt. Placing it upon the ironing broad, she nodded that she was listening.
“Savage as gathered the wolves. They are looking for the Damned one. He says that he found him.”
“Trouble, with Alpha Blackwood in the next town he’ll know of the Damned one’s presence.”
“I was thinking that since your niece is with the pack, you could go shopping and try to send a message today.”
The woman cringed, last time she went shopping her wolf surface for freedom. Her wolf hadn’t been able to run in so long they mourned the full moon over the skies. Tapping her pocket to make sure the picture was still there, she allowed one tear to drop. Only one. More than that the men will know something is going on.
Her beautiful niece and her mate laid inside her pocket for years now. Her brother had a way out of the pack. Was leaving with his daughter and her mate. Going to live with another pack. Her mind flowed back to the night they were going to leave. He was so proud to get them out of Savage’s pack. Used his resources to gain trust from Savage. While they were in the city, his daughter found her mate. A family traveling. Immediately he explained that this wasn’t the territory they wanted to be in. The Alpha was lethal, vicious in his ways.
With the lies he told to Savage, her brother was able to set up a way to leave and join the pack that his daughters mate belonged to. Unfortunately one of his rogues had found out what was to take place. Told Savage everything. Murdered her brother, his mate and his daughter mate’s family. Cold blood.
She had thought that Savage had killed her niece, only to find out that she and her mate was locked up. Tied to a wall. Beaten by the hour! The woman growled. Her eyes widened, the men heard. Quickly acting like she burned her hand, they paused for a moment then moved on.
Then that beautiful child came along. What wonderful beauty he was. Savage tricked him into the pack. But grew wise every quickly. He was able to steal away her niece and her mate. Placed the Alpha to sleep and survived! To join a place within the pack that is in the next town with her niece! This gave the woman pride, knowing her beautiful little niece was safe with the every wolf who freed her. Her life belonged to the beautiful Empathy wolf who has saved her soul.
“I shall do it,” the woman whispered. It was for her niece and the Empathy wolf. She owed him her life. As payment, she will do whatever she could to help as much as she could.
The shop was full today. He had heard about wolves coming to certain tattoo shops. The owners or someone within knew their secret. Held wealth to keep their mouth shut or a visit from a nasty wolf was due. Savage and his men looked around at the art work upon the walls and in the books. One of his wolves joked around about him getting a tattoo. A pack symbol. Savage almost thought that was an idea until he seen the wolf that he was wanting.
Taking a sit in the extra chair beside the wolf. He was welcomed with a growl.
“Do not be disrespectful. I came here to speak business.”
“I do not seek a word of business or a pleasure from you.” The wolf growled in a deep tone.
The tattoo artist paused at this. He knew that the wolf in the chair did not like to be interrupted during a tat. The wolf looked over at him to keeping going. Starting again, he kept his eyes trained on the tat inside of the other wolf present.
“As an Alpha you should show your submission before my beast gets rallied up.” Savage looked the wolf dead in the eyes and saw no submissive behavior.
“As you know, I hold no submission. You are not my Alpha there for I see no need to submit to you or your words.”
Savages wolves growled behind their Alpha. The wolf in the chair laughed at their pathetic attempts to intimidate him. Smiling the wolf allowed a low rippling growl start from deep inside his chest. Working its way up, the growl grew louder and more menacing. Upon exiting his mouth, the wolf allowed his fangs to growl and his wolf to be shown. The human jumped up from the chair and bolted into the other room. Dropping the tattooing gun to the ground as he went. A smell of fear lingered over towards the wolves.
“I believe its time you show yourselves out the door before this gets real ugly.” The wolf tightened up his arms.
“I do believe it is you whom needs to show respect. My wolves are protecting their Alpha, as you should be doing. You need to learn your place among the pack.”
“Pack?” the wolf growled towards Savage. Who could see that this wolf wasn’t going to submit to him anytime soon.
“You are a War wolf, you need a pack.”
“I need no one. As you know, I am a rogue. I do not seek no pack nor do I seek any place among your pack.”
Savage chuckled at the wolf, only to anger him more. The wolf jumped out of the chair, Savage stood up to the challenge. The wolves behind him, gathered around their Alpha. Growls filled the air as the challenge was laid down. The wolf stared down at the smaller Alpha with amusement hidden in his eyes.
“Savage you are on the wrong territory. This is a neutral place, no wolf holds any authority over this land. Be gone. And take your mutts with you.”
“Who you calling mutt?” One of the wolves behind Savage stepped up beside him.
“You tweedle dee,” the wolf growled back. “And tweedle dumb behind you.”
“I must remind you that my wolves will not tolerate someone disrespecting them. They are above you.”
“Above huh?”
Wolf vs. wolf, as the stare down took place the humans seen a way to leave the shop. The owner was rethinking of allowing wolves back into his establishment. Last time a fight among wolves took place, it took two weeks to rebuild half the building. However the wolf that the others were challenging is a regular. He comes in every so often for a new tattoo or a beer.
From the window that divides the two businesses, the owner watched as the wolves spoke back and forth. One of his employees came up and handed off a beer. The long neck reached his lips as the sweet nectar slid down his throat.
Whispering, “I figured out who those wolves are.”
“Who?” the owner looked over.
“Savage.”
“Oh hell.” Their supernatural friends had warned them about this wolf. He was out to get power among the packs. No one knows the reason, yet he’s wiping wolf packs out.
“Dart won’t let anything happen, you know that.”
The owner did know that. Dart had explained that he was a different type of wolf, a rogue. No Alpha to command over him. Didn’t really like having someone to tell him what to do. Especially this low down dirty piece of trash Alpha. The owner looked over his shoulder, at least the bar wasn’t busy. Here in a hour or so it’ll pick up. Hopefully the wolves will be done with whatever that was going on.
Dart snatched the wolf by the throat, pulled him forward as a growl bounced off the glass into the bar. The patrons paused and looked around for a moment. They hadn’t realized that the growling was coming from next door.
“I said it’s time to leave!” Dart’s claws dug into the flesh under his skin.
“Take him outside,” Savage ordered his men to gather up the lone wolf. Dragging him outside was a chore.
The rogues never truly realized how strong a War wolf is until then. Taking all of them to wrestle him to the ground for Savage. Snarls and snaps penetrated the already tensed air. Dart gathered his strength. Ripping his arm out of the hold, sweeping his claws over the wolf’s face. Four brutal gashes appeared deep across his face. Howling in pain, Dart jumped up. Tackling the wolf over, with two direct hits to the face. The wolf laid silent.
Flipping around Dart’s beast surfaced more. Hair began to grow down his arms. His fangs shined in the brief sunlight peeking through the tall oak trees. Blackness hollowed out around the darkening golden beast within. With the next snap, clothing began to rip away from the heated skin.
Off in a distance, a reddish wolf watched the fight unfold before his eyes as he chewed on a deer leg. Even in all the years he’s been alive, he knew not to mess with Dart. Dart was the most dangerous of the War wolves. He was soulless. Nothing to keep him grounded to someone or in control. His beast held a destructive nature about him. Fear no one. Not even a strong powerful Alpha can control him.
Dart lunged as a massive pitch black wolf, connecting with one of the wolf’s necks. With one tear, blood cascaded from the hollowed out neck. Blood dripped from his fangs as he rounded on the other wolves. Savage ordered his wolves to attack.
The onlooker find that the fight was more interesting than the deer. Creeping down to see how long it was going to take for Dart to kill off this small pack of idiots, he noticed who the Alpha really was. The very Alpha who had placed trackers on him. This was his chance to see what was going on.
Leaping into the air, his paws hit Savage directly on the back. Knocking him to the ground. Snarling as the Alpha looked up to see what happened. The reddish wolf realized that he was smiling.
“I knew you would come,” Savage grinned. “You always stay close to Dart. Find Dart, you’re not too far away.”
So him and Dart were good friends. He only trusted very few wolves. Dart just happen to be one of those wolves.
The wolf growled in response.
“Calm down, release my wolves.” He snapped at Dart who was in the process of killing another wolf.
The Damned one snapped towards Dart, who rolled his eyes. Releasing the wolf Dart licked the blood from his muzzle. Keeping guard as the wolves gathered away from him, he studied Savages next move.
“I came in hopes we could make a deal.” Savage began. “I know of a witch who can break the curse upon you. In return you do me a favor. I am having trouble getting to a certain wolf in Blackwood’s pack. Kill him and I will have the witch break the curse.”
The wolf growled over at Dart who was telling him it was a trick. Savage doesn’t hold that kind of power. There is no witch around these parts. In order to break the curse, he would have to have the blood line that placed the curse upon him. The Damned one growled in return.
‘Damnit, listen to me!’ Dart snapped back. ’He holds no power to give that.’
‘What if he does?’ the Damned one asked back.
Dart knew that his friend was in turmoil from the centuries of being a wolf. However he couldn’t see his friend get hurt. There was no honor upon what Savage was doing. Manipulation by deceiving him into believing there was a witch. Dart knew that Savage was cruel. Enough even to play at someone’s weakness like this.
‘Don’t do it!’
‘I have to. My friend, I am sorry. You have two legs. I want to walk again.’
‘Then I shall leave you. Call upon me when you need an ass kicking.’ Dart jogged away from the crowd of people. Allowing his mind to disconnect from a true friend. ‘Fool’ he thought before shifting into his human form.
“He said he shall do it, now get the hell out of here.” Dart growled as he threw on a pair of pants.
Savage gave a wicked smile as he order the wolves to pick up the decease. Leading the Damned one to the truck, he told him to jump into the back and lay down. Humans seeing a massive size wolf wasn’t a good idea. The Damned one looked back at his friend who stood with his arms cross over his chest. A death glare upon his face. Leftover blood stained his lips from the fight. He knew that Dart who get him out of trouble. No matter how pissed off he was, Dart was a man of honor.
The pack house wasn’t nothing to really brag about. He had heard stories of how Savage treated the Omega’s and the women. Upon seeing a woman with a black eye, the stories must be true.
Sitting down in the yard, he growled. Savage looked over his shoulder.
“I figure you were hungry.”
Shaking his head no, he growled again.
“Fine, I need help getting to Zero Blackwood. Taking him down will upset the Empathy. The Empathy once belonged to my pack. He’s tied to the Zero by mating. Filthy, having to men as mates. Unnatural.”
The Damned one didn’t see the issue upon two males being mates. Especially if one was an Empathy. He should have had Dart ask who this wolf was he wanted dead before agreeing to this. Killing an Empathy’s mate might be challenging. Yet, he had to try. To see his legs again. To hold a cup. Might have to learn how to walk again, but he would do it!
Now his mind had to get set on killing Zero Blackwood.
