Chapter 30
“Kagen please help him?” Tibitha was down on her knees with her hands clasped together. “Only you know what to do.”
“That’s BS and you know it. There’s an Alpha, he’ll figure something out.”
“How can you say that! I thought wolves were your thing.”
“My thing?” He crossed his arms, “Just because it comes natural doesn’t mean jack.”
Tibitha threw out her hands, stood up. “Apparently begging you isn’t going to work. It’s been three days Kagen, three! Tatom can’t find Langdon!”
“Not my problem!” Kagen slammed the door in her face.
When will these people ever learn that he wants nothing to do with the pack or whatever her son was doing. When will Tibitha learn that every time she came over here to speak of that son of hers, it only opens new wounds. Answers apparently he wasn’t going to get anytime soon.
Pacing his floor, Kagen ran a hand through his hair multiple times. So what if Langdon was an Empathy or he was taken by one of the nastiest Alphas. So what if the pack couldn’t find him and his mate was going mad. So what! No wolf cares enough about human feelings or how their ways break people into two.
Pouching his fist through the wall, he screamed out. “Damn you! I hate you Tatom, so help me God you will get yours!”
Who in the hell does that woman think she is? Coming here and begging him for that red head mongrel of a son. Tatom had already taking enough from him. So what if he knew about wolves or the way a pack works. He wasn’t a pack of his pack! His anger began to rise the more he thought.
Snatching his jacket off the back of the chair, he went out the door. Savage wouldn’t keep Langdon around the pack’s territory. He would move away. Most likely somewhere Lorraine would know. Close to the witch’s community but not too close.
Starting the engine, Kagen listened to the night air. There was something there, he felt it. Magic might not be upon him. However his gut was on lock. Something was defiantly in the air. Flying out the driveway, he blew passed Tibitha who was speaking with one of the believers, as he calls them. The witches who believe in the War that is coming. War was already upon them.
Driving down every street he thought that Lorraine would take a wolf pack. There was no such luck. Lorraine was smarter than this. She knew the directions of the winds would send the scent of a pack into the air. Langdon’s screams would be noticed.
They were a state away from the pack. Where would she take him that was within driving distance for the council? Kagen laid his head on the steering wheel. Deep calming breaths entered his chest.
“Think, think,” whispering as the scent of wet animal entered his nose.
Looking outside there was a cat sitting on a garbage can lid licking its paw. Focusing on the cat’s paw. He noticed that their was no foul odor coming from the cans. Meaning trash pick up. Trash pick up? This late in the week?
Stepping out of the car, he focused his attention on the surroundings. That’s when he seen the signs. Lorraine was leaving the council signs on how to find her. Her symbols where placed upon the buildings and objects around.
“Lorraine, you call me stupid. How dumb are you?”
Jumping back into his car, he floored the accelerator. Following the signs as he went. With each sign that he found brought him closer to the Empathy. His body was fully against it. His mind knew that he had to do something about the situation. Even he didn’t have a heart of stone. Would be better for him at the moment.
The sun rose over the horizon as he pumped a tank full of gas. Crossing the broader about five hours ago. Kagen laid his head down on the hood of the car. He couldn’t afford second guessing himself now. After coming all this way, he had to be right. Going into pay, he felt the creepiness of a council member. Quickly hiding behind the racks of potato chips, his eyes scanned the small store.
“I didn’t think Lorraine would ever find the Empathy.”
“She teamed up with Savage though.”
“We can handle him. Don’t you worry. Tonight when they enter we’ll go and meet them.”
Tonight. That meant Kagen had to find Langdon, get him out and leave before tonight. Too bad the council members didn’t say the time. Sure would have been helpful.
Once he realized that the signs had ended, Kagen pulled off to the side of the road. There was nothing but trees surrounding smaller homes. He felt like he was at home. Lorraine was the type of witch who through her gifts in everyone’s faces. She would strut around with her nose so far up in the air. Her nose hairs shined in the sun. Yet she wasn’t a foul. Lorraine knew how to cover her tracks. There was something he missed.
Going back to the last sign he saw. He studied the surroundings. It was a normal four way stop. Houses on all sides, connecting neighborhoods. Children playing in their back yards. A delivery truck parked outside a home, with a man carrying a package. The water drain wasn’t clogged, the water flowed nicely down the street.
Turning his back on the houses and occupants, he began studying what little trees were there. Nothing unusual about the trees or the ground. Except they needed watered. Looked a bit dry. The leaves were dry and withered. Blowing out a deep breath, Kagen closed his eyes.
Sometimes he hated having a heart. Hearts only get broken in the end. The one who says they love you, end up loving another. It always happens. His family said they loved him once, only to find them kicking him out of the very home he grew up in.
Really he shouldn’t care less about what happens to the Empathy. It wasn’t like he was going to become friends with this pack or friends with the Empathy. His brothers should have been able to track his scent even with Savage and Lorraine masking it. They were natural born hunters. Rogues/War wolves held the best tracking capability known to wolves. But they probably are sickened with grief that they’ve forgotten this fact. Or trying to help keep Zero calm. Damn that woman for telling him all about this god forsaken pack. Like he cared about the Blackwood pack.
As reality struck him with such a force, Kagen rolled his eyes. The water! There is water flowing down the street yet the trees are dry. It hadn’t rained here in days, maybe weeks. Crossing the street, he kneeled down. The water was clean, too clean to be coming from rain or someone’s yard. Scooping up a handful, he tasted it.
Just like he thought, the water was clean. Spring clean. The only water Lorraine will drink. There had to be a clue around here somewhere. This was the last stop before you find the hideout. Just had to be.
‘Okay Kagen, think.’ Kagen studied the surroundings once again.
Looking high and looking low, he finally seen something that should have caught his eye the first time. The names of the streets were, North, South, East and West. He was standing in the middle of four corners. Making sure that his body lined up with the four corners. His eyes began to search for the final clue. If Lorraine used magic, he wouldn’t be able to see if. However wolves would have to be able to find the way. Their sight was better than a humans. Only if they weren’t him. He had trained his eyes to see what wasn’t there.
Up in the trees hung a small symbol, almost like an arrow. Looking further into the trees, there were more. Lorraine or Savage was sending the wolves through the small walking trail. Kagen parked his car down a ways from the trail. Gathering what he had brought with him, he started through the woods.
It wasn’t much to hide in. The wolves would have to walk in their human form. Maybe the path of trees was ten feet wide, if that. Checking each tree, there were little symbols hanging. At least he was on the right path.
Reaching an area where the brush grew thicker, the trees were over grown with age. He noticed the electrifying shocks in the air. It was giving off a witch’s warning to stay away. This he will not do. Defiantly too late to turn back now.
Scoping out the place. It was built recently, fresh dug earth was still in piles around the property. The back siding wasn’t fully in place just yet. The windows had stickers in them. Blankets were being used as blinds for the windows. Movement came from the back part of the house. Kagen shifted his body lower to the ground.
Going into a small area with werewolves standing guard wasn’t the brightest idea he’s ever had. This was a suicide mission. Whatever he was thinking before, he was rethinking now. This was ridiculous. A human going inside a house full of witches and werewolves. Yeah right, he’ll be joining Langdon instead of rescuing him. Then again, he did love the danger in life.
Making sure his blades were still strapped to his side, he gathered up the Wolf’s Bane from his bag. Using this will stop any wolf known to man. Including a Halfling. He just hoped that Langdon was still in here by time he reached him. Savage knew how to break a wolf quicker than snapping them in two.
It was now or never. Sucking in a deep breath, he around the windows. Ducking and dodging all that laid in his path. Using the left over wood, he quickly made a small step. Grabbing a hold of the roof, Kagen pulled himself up. Gently as possible, he walked a long the roof’s edge. In hopes not to make too much noise. Checking the windows, none of them where unlocked. This posed a bigger issue. Okay, there goes nothing.
Sending his fist straight through the window, it shattered into pieces. Quickly busting it out. He heard the foot falls of the wolves rushing the stairs. Sliding his body into the hallway, he kneeled himself into a half of a bend. Pulling out his blades, Kagen prepared himself for a fight with a wolf.
The first wolf rushed the stairs head on. His arms matched that of his. Knowing his strength was more kept Kagen from charging straight back. As the wolf came closer, he raised his blades just enough to strike out. Once the wolf was close enough, Kagen stuck out twice. Slicing the wolf across the chest. The wolf fell in a howl, screaming as the Wolf’s Bane entered in his blood stream. The second wolf lunged at his mid section, taking him down. Kagen struggled to get free of the iron vice grip the wolf had upon him.
Bringing his legs up, he twisted them around the wolf. Squeezing the wolf laughed in his face. Taunted him about being so weak. Kicking his leg out then brought it back down with all the force he could. A blade from inside the soul of his boot came out and directly into the wolf’s back. Kicking his leg out again, blood splashed to the ground from the wolf. Bringing it back, it made contact with a different spot, the kidney area. The wolf let out a howl. Kagen could hear more coming. Dropping a blade to the floor, balling up his fist. Kagen swung with great force, connecting on the wolf’s face. Weakened by the blows to the back the wolf fell away from him. Following him up, Kagen brought his blade down into the wolf’s neck. Severing the jugular. Gathering up the blade from the floor, he prepared himself for more wolves. This time, he poured Wolf’s Bane over his shirt and arms.
Charging the stairs, a rather large wolf met him on the stairs. With a swipe of the hand, the wolf’s claws dug into his side. Hissing the wolf pulled back to see smoke raising from his claw. Taking the opportunity, Kagen slammed the blade into the wolf’s chest. The blade pierced directly into the heart.
Listening for a moment, he realized that no one else was coming. At lease for now. Searching the house, room to room. Langdon wasn’t here. Kagen groaned. He had to be here. This was the only possibility. Checking the flooring, maybe just maybe there was a hidden door leading to a basement. Popping open another door he found, a wolf stood with his arms crossed and a smile upon his face. Kagen looked down at the wolf’s body. He was ready to shift as he stood naked. Rogues were quick when shifting.
Before Kagen could back up, the wolf was already transitioning into his wolf form. Preparing his body, Kagen felt the fear within the house. Langdon was sensing the fight going on. He was afraid. This also meant that the wolf would try to protect Langdon, unless Savage was successful in breaking Langdon.
“I’m going to get him, I hope you know that.”
The grey wolf shook his mighty head no. Kagen smiled with a wickedness that the wolf thought was a little to bold for the human.
“You think Lorraine is going to allow you wolves to have him? Savage better watch his back, Lorraine will stab him in the back quicker than he can double cross someone.”
The wolf lunged, sending Kagen over the couch and onto the floor. Jumping with ease, the wolf snapped his fangs directly in his face. Kagen pouched the wolf in the stomach. Using his left leg, he wrapped it around the wolf. With the right, he kicked down. Sending the blade inside his boot into the wolf’s side. A small whimper came. Pouching the wolf in the sides again, he was able to get the wolf off of him. Quickly flipping himself up, Kagen’s eyes searched for his blades. It was only a matter of time the Wolf’s Bane starts seeping into the pores of the beast.
As he found one of the blades, the wolf tackled him down. Biting into his arm. The wolf howl in pain as the Wolf’s Bane burned his mouth. Snatching up the blade, Kagen charge. Driving the straight two sided blade passed the rib cage up into the heart of the wolf. Pushing up for extra measure. Once he was satisfied that the wolf wasn’t going to get back up, he clasped to the floor. The wolf’s weight pinned him down. The fear lingered over the house.
Scraping of chains chain’s vibrated the floor. The sound was close. Sucking in his breath and holding it. Kagen let the sounds enter his ears. It was close, as in the next room close. Wiggling his way out from underneath the wolf, hissing at the pain in his arm. The wolf took a bite out of it. Holding it to his chest, he staggered towards the room the wolf was guarding.
There inside was Langdon beaten and chained to a wall. His eyes were puffy from the massive tear stained face. Dried blood laid upon the frightened wolf’s body. His chest held black and blue bruising along with his neck. Before approaching the wolf, he took off his shirt and looped it through a belt loop in the back of his jeans. Remembering that there was bottles of water in the kitchen, he hurried to wash his arms.
After satisfied with the washing, he hurried back to the wolf. Langdon had curled himself into a ball on the floor. With his hands stretched out, Kagen used a soft voice as he approached.
“Langdon,” Langdon jumped up against the wall in fear. “Calm down, I’m here to help. I will not hurt you.” In the back of his mind, ‘That’s what they all say idiot.’ Langdon whimpered.
“Shh, I have you. I will try my best to return you to Zero.”
Langdon started to rock back and forth. “Zero.” He whispered with pain. “Zero.”
“That’s right. You have to help me. I’m injured. Fighting wolves isn’t the smartest thing I’ve done.”
Langdon’s eyes scanned his body for a moment. His beast pushed forward to help calm him down. Seeing the blood drip from his side and arm, the beast was satisfied enough that he had been fighting wolves. It must had been what they heard moments ago.
“I want to go home.”
“I’m the guy who can get you there.”
Kagen was pleased that Langdon wasn’t completely gone. He was still in here. Just broken for the time being. With a little nourishing from the pack he should be able to bounce right back. With time of course. It wasn’t like Langdon going to go right back to how he use to be.
Studying the chains, Kagen told Langdon to cover his face. The wolf turned his body away. Pulling on the wall, the chains remained in tack. With the pain running through his body, Kagen was losing more strength by the minute.
“Well well well, what do we have here.”
Langdon pulled away from the man at the door. Kagen let his head fall for a moment. Knowing the voice behind him, he knew this wasn’t good. A high council member stood behind them.
“I see that the wolf boy came to help the pack.”
“I am not helping the pack, just Langdon. He has no idea what he is.” Kagen pulled himself to a stance. Closing his eyes as the head rush set in. His stomach did flip flops for a minute.
“Awe, are we weakened Kagen?” the council member chuckled.
“Fighting werewolves can do that to you.”
Slowly turning around, Kagen faced the council member. Or should he says members. Two more stood behind him in the door way.
“I must admit that I’m impressed that you were able to get this far. Killing a wolf isn’t easy let alonewhat four or five of them.” The man gave a mocking golf clap at him. “Those wounds look nasty.” Pointing his finger, “That better not be a changing mark. You know it’s against the rules.”
“Only for witches, which I am not.”
“You are of witches decent therefore you are to live under the witches law.”
“If I remember correctly, isn’t harming a creature against the rules?”
“This creature is an abomination.”
“So you say,” Kagen kept his face blank as the shooting pain bolted up through his side. “I say that an Empathy is a treasure among any community. Or are you forgetting about what Will and David has done for the witches community?”
“Will is a wolf and as stayed a wolf all these years.”
Kagen rolled his eyes. Will had told the council that he was finished helping the witches community. When Savage attacked the ancient pack and murdered the witch, he was through helping a community that will not help one of their own.
“Seize him,” the council member ordered to the others behind him.
A wicked smile reach Kagen as the boy from earlier entered the room. His hand was placed in a cast. The boy pulsed a slight second until the other member bumped his shoulder. Reminding him that he wasn’t alone.
Allowing them to take a hold of his arms, he remained still. The council member walked over with pride upon his chest and cockiness upon his chest. Puffing out one’s chest the way he was, was just saying for someone to slam a blade into it. The council member threw out his fist, striking him in the stomach a few times before the other two let go. Allowing him to fall to the floor. Laughter erupt from above him. Langdon whimpered.
“Shut it little mutt. You’re time will come.” The council member teased.
Lunging upward, Kagen struck the council member in the side with his fist. A scream bellowed out of him. The other two tackled him down. Pouches were thrown in very direction. Langdon backed up against the wall. Once the words came from the man leaning down, Langdon whimpered again. “Kill him!”
Covering up his body as the sounds of pouches, grunts and hisses entered the air. Langdon whimpered softly to himself. His beast pushed forward with enough strength to calm him down a bit. They hadn’t eaten in days. Savage had sliced and diced their skin. Made them shift to torture the wolf. Both human and beast were damage and battered. Injured physically and mentally. This is what May and June had to endure with Savage.
“Langdon,”
Jumping up against the wall again, Langdon’s eyes widened at the dark haired man before him. His face was bloody, more markings where upon his body. Langdon’s eyes followed a stream of blood coming from the guy’s forehead. It trickled down passed his chin.
“We have to go now. I can’t get the chains off of the wall. You have to help me.”
At first Langdon stared at him as if he didn’t understand. The man lifted up the chain, showing him that he was chained to the wall. Looking over his shoulder, Langdon nodded. Turning around, he helped the guy pull on the chain that was attached to the wall. There was only a couple of feet of chain. With both of them pulling on one chain, the bolts began coming out of the wall. Falling back with the sudden release of the chain. The man groan in pain as Langdon fell on top of him. However, he moved on to the next chain. Causing Langdon to do the same.
Both men weren’t for sure who was carrying who. Both were bleeding, both were covered in wounds. Both set of feet really wasn’t working as they hurried through the woods. The man had to keep looking up at the trees to make sure they were going the correct way. Before leaving, the man had stolen clean clothes and supplies from the house. Along with Langdon’s personal belongings. He wouldn’t let Langdon take the time to call Zero. Stating that Lorraine, must be the woman, might have placed a spell upon his phone.
The sky was starting to get dark by time they reached the four cornered road. The man pulled him over to a black car. Unlocked it and shoved him inside. In one motion, he started the engine, placed it in drive and hit the gas. As they barreled down the road, Langdon moved himself into the seat properly.
“We need to get as far as possible. Once we’re a safe distance we’ll contact your pack.” The man said as he placed a towel on his side. Blood had pooled around his clothing from the open wound. Langdon sat back and rocked in the seat. Him and his beast felt safe now. They felt that they could trust this man. Who strangely looked familiar to them.
He had been gone a while. Langdon chewed on his thumb. The man said he would be right back. Before he left, he helped him take a shower. Embarrassed at himself for not being able to bath himself at the moment, however, the man said nothing. All he did was wrap a strong arm around him and helped him wash. He wasn’t for sure who’s blood was who’s by the red stained water in the bath tub. His eyes focused on the red water pouring into the drain as the man washed out his wounds.
There was a sound at the door, almost like a key being placed inside the hole. The door opened to the small chain catching it. The man whispered that it was him. Langdon dragged himself off the bed and lumped towards the door. Peeking out, there stood the familiar looking man with bags in his arms. Sliding off the chain, he opened the door for him. The aroma of food hit his senses the moment the bag entered the room. The man tossed him a rather large food bag from a fast food chain.
“Eat slowly, you’ll make yourself sick.”
Langdon sat on the bed and tore into the bag. Fries was the first thing that greeted him from the goodness of the sweet bag of heaven. Shoving a few into his mouth, he chewed. His stomach made a loud rumpling noise.
“I threw away your phone. It isn’t wise to keep anything from when they first took you. I got Zero’s number out first. However it went to voice mail. Luckily I snatched out another number, someone that had a star beside it in your favorites. A Max? I called to let him know that I needed to speak with Zero.
“Zero is coming for you. He’ll be here soon as he can. For now, you need to eat and get some rest. If you wake up I won’t be here. I need to leave. Killing council members is against the law. I have to find a way to cover up what I did. Or I’m dead.”
Langdon whimpered.
“Don’t you’re safe now.” The man kneeled down in front of him. “There’s clothes for you. I figure you wouldn’t want to be in those anymore than you had too.”
Looking down, he was right. These belonged to the wolves that tortured him. Seeing the clothing, Langdon snatched them up and began stripping right there. The man turned around to give him some privacy. Once changed, he sat back down to eat. The man handed him over a large drink from the fast food chain. Whispering thank you, he nodded in return.
After all the food was consumed, Langdon curled under the blankets. He studied the man from the comfort of the motel pillow.
“I know who you are.” Langdon said softly.
“You do?” the man kept his eyes out the window.
“Kagen. Tatom showed me a picture of you.”
Watching as Kagen tightened his jaw. He nodded his head.
“You keep that between me and you. I don’t want Tatom or anyone else knowing I did this, you got it?”
“Yes,” Langdon whispered. He could feel the heart ache within Kagen. It hurt him to say Tatom’s name. “Thank you.”
“Don’t mention it.” Kagen hissed as the pain sparked up in his side again. Throwing back more pain killers, he swallowed them with a drink of Vodka.
Soon Langdon’s eyes fell into the darkness of sleep.
“It’s gotta be here. He said the key was placed under the stairs with tape!” Zero growled as his hand was coming up empty.
“Maybe it’s the other set of stairs.” Aaron offered.
Running over, Zero kneeled down. His hand quickly felt underneath the stairs. Finally a piece of tape. Ripping it off, there was a motel key on the backside of the tape. Seeing the room number, Zero looked around at the doors. Flying up the stairs, he ran down towards the other end. Room 15. Sliding in the key, he threw open the door.
There on the bed sound asleep was his beloved mate. All black and blue. Rushing in, he scooped him up. Langdon woke up in a scream. Shocks bolted through Zero, growling he kept a hold. “IT’S ME!” Screaming through his clenched teeth. Soon the room was filled with brothers and Beta’s.
“Zero!” Langdon squeezed himself into his chest as tears rushed down his face.
In the back ground, Tatom called the Alpha to let him know that they had Langdon. Alpha Blackwood ordered them home at once. Two brothers kneeled down to the side of the bed, stroking a part of Langdon’s body.
“I have you,” Zero’s beast was fully present. His dark golden eyes lit up the dim lit room.
Hearing his mate gasp in pain, Zero laid him down, began pulling at his clothing. Kneeling down, he began licking each wound. Without permission Langdon’s brothers began to help close up the wounds. Zero growled but allowed the action to take place. Once every wound was closed, he ordered the wolves to stand guard as he picked up Langdon.
“We’re going home.”
Langdon said nothing. All he did was curl himself into Zero’s chest. He was safe now. No one was going to hurt him. Zero came like he promised. His mate will stop at nothing to get him back.
The ride home was intense with emotion. Rage was felt from his brother who kept an arm wrapped around his mate to keep himself calm as possible. Dalson kept blowing out smoke from his nostrils. Zero would growl every time someone would shift in their seats. Langdon was too tired and scared to help anyone out tonight. Or day, the sun was raising over the horizon by time they reached their town.
As the car pulled into the driveway, wolves lined the yard of the Alpha’s home. Bailey rushed down to the car. Throwing open the door, she broke into tears. Climbing over wolves to get to her son, Langdon screamed at mom as she wrapped her arms around his body and Zero’s. Her body shook with emotion as tears filled the vehicle.
“My baby, my baby.” Bailey kissed his face and head. “Oh my sweet little baby.”
“I need to take him in to the pack doctor.” Zero growled.
Bailey nodded as she backed out, her eyes were blood shot from the lack of sleep and worry. Zero stepped out with Langdon in his arms. May and June screamed Langy as they hurried over. Vera stopped them, telling them that Langdon was injured. He needed time. June began crying in pain for her Langy.
The house seemed to be held in agreeable silence as the doctor checked out the wounds that were still bright red. There were a couple he had to reopen to see why they were not healing correctly. Small slivers of metal was pulled out. Zero stood guard over his mate.
“Doc?” Alpha Blackwood came in.
“He should be fine. He’ll be sore for a few days. Whoever cleaned up his wounds before Zero did, knew what they were doing. They were able to get most of the metal out, and wash out anything that would keep the wound from healing.”
Langdon just laid there, staring up at his mate. Who was more and willing to stare back.
“Get some rest Langdon. Tomorrow I’ll look at you again. There is a wound I really don’t like how it’s looking. If I didn’t know better I would say it was kept open with Wolf’s Bane.”
Langdon broke the connection with Zero as he whimpered. Giving all the answer that was needed to the pack standing around. Zero picked him up and gently carried him away.
After a family and friends gave their hugs and kisses, Zero shut the door to his room. Undressing, Langdon kept his head slightly down. Zero slid into bed; pulled him over to him more. Snuggling down into his mate’s side. Langdon felt even more safe now.
The natural aroma of the wolves, the caress they give. The emotion within man and beast. Langdon was home. He was fully home. This is where he belonged.
“Zero,”
“What? Are you in pain?”
“No, I’m okay. I wanted to say, I’m ready to commit to the pack.”
“What?” Zero sat up on his elbow and looked stunned at him.
“I’m home.”
“We’ll talk about this is the morning. You shouldn’t be thinking of anything but getting better.”
“I know, but I’m ready. When I was there, I kept thinking of you and the pack. I actually missed everyone. I’m ready.”
Zero curled his body around his mate’s. Whispered for him to go to sleep. Having Langdon snuggle more into his body. Zero couldn’t be filled with more emotion. His mate had just told him that he was ready. Yet his mate had just been kidnapped and tortured. What was a wolf to do now?
“What do you want?”
Kagen set down another finished bottle of Vodka.
“You shouldn’t be drinking this early in the morning, Kagen.” Lorraine smile spoke of the evil within her.
“You shouldn’t be at my home this early in the morning either.”
“I just got word that you just got out of jail yesterday.”
“So what? A bar fight might put you there too.”
“I find this suspicious.”
“Meaning what?” Kagen put the ice pack over his swollen eye.
“Something happened to some council members and you’ve been missing.”
“So I’ve heard. But sorry, been in jail remember.”
“So it seems that way.” Lorraine studied his body. The wounds that she should see spoke of any fight. He could be telling the truth after all.
“You know Gale, Eledon and Tanner have been murdered. Correct?”
“Who’s Tanner?”
“The man’s hand you broke!” Lorraine snapped towards him.
“Awe, you mean the boy.”
A little snarl laughter came from her. “Boy? He is older than you. And a council member!”
“Older huh, sure didn’t act like it. Age doesn’t mean much when you play a child’s role.”
“I’ll be watching you Kagen, mark my words.”
“I’m sure you will.” Kagen leaned back in the chair. Tibitha wasn’t too far off from his eye sight. She was probably wondering the same thing as the rest of the community. Where has he been. To everyone, jail. Luckily he knows a good computer hacker that owed him a favor.
Watching Lorraine leave and Tibitha move along, he gathered up what little strength he had left. Made his way to the couch and fell down. Where his head and body hit was where he stayed. As darkness took over his lifeless like body.

What do you think?
