Caine's P.O.V

Nick turns to us as Cameron and I get there. 

“Did you guys hear there are new kids today? Like five of them but what’s even more confusing is that their all from the same school."

"Do you know who they are?" I ask confused.

“Yep" Melanie buts in looking behind us. “them." she says pointing behind us.

I turn around and come face to face with Derek and his friends. CRAP.

"Hello mate" Derek says while his friends behind him look shocked. Guess they didn't know. Oh well he rejected me. Wait that's right he rejected me so why was he calling me his mate in front of his friends.

"Huh mate."  I scoff. “If I am your so called mate then why did you reje..." I get cut off by Derek putting his hand over my mouth.

 He leans dangerously close and whispers into my ear “don’t you dare say a word about that. I am now accepting you again. So don't you get any ideas alright? You'll wish you hadn't. Meet me at the back of the school at lunch. Don't be late. Or else you'll get. You won't be late will you...? Black Wolf?"

I gasp. Dammit I should have known he would bring this up. So he doesn't do anything I shake my head no. He then smirks and kisses me straight on the lips in front of everyone. He then grabs his friends and heads inside just as the bell rings. I stand there in shock for a while before I regain feeling in my legs.

Instead of going into school I head into the forest. My friends are all yelling my name but that doesn't stop me. I get in there and shift not caring about my clothes and the fact that they're now shredded to bits. I shake out my fur and listen for my wolf. He is happy and excited inside while I'm to be honest, miserable. How can he reject me and then accept me. And why? Is it because I'm the black wolf or maybe he just realised how big of a mistake he made. Huh yeah, right. I snort while my wolf sighs in appreciation to that thought.

I run home quickly, grab some clothes, get changed and head back to school. I arrive halfway during second period.

"It's nice of you to join us Mr McKay" says the teacher, Mr Gator, or Mr G for short.

“Yeah I bet it is." I say smugly knowing I won't get in trouble. Mr G is Cameron's father so I know him outside of school.

“Oh haha you're so funny. Sit down Mr McKay will ya."

"Aye aye captain." I salute him mockingly turn to sit down but stop when I see someone sitting in the desk that is behind mine. It was one of Derek’s guy friend's and beside him is another one. I reluctantly sit down at my desk, which is next to Jono's desk. I take out my stuff and start 'trying' to listen to the teach.

I feel a tap on my shoulder, when Mr G has just given us a sheet to work on and turn to see the smiling face of Derek’s friend and the scowl of the other one.

"Hello, I'm Harry" the smiling one says" and this is Lucas. We’re friends of Derek’s. I'm positive you know him. Lucas and I here are brothers. It's nice to meet you." The one I now know as Harry says. Harry elbows Lucas in the guts so Lucas would say hi I suppose. He didn't.

"Hey to you too. I'm..." I get cut off by a pain in my chest. My heart to be persist. I double over clutching my chest with my nails, now claws clawing at it. When the pain gets too much and my lower abdomen starts hurting I jump out of my chair and run out of there leaving behind the calls coming from everyone and the footsteps trying to catch up to me.

I get outside and am about to enter the forest when another wave of pain hits and I tumble over. I lay on my back writhing in pain when Harry comes out shortly followed by Jono.

"Dude what the hell. What's happening? Do something." Jono yells panicked while hitting Harry obviously not knowing what to do. "We have to help him. I'll call 911."

No" Harry shouts panicked."You can't. I know what's happening. Um it will pass by soon. I'll be right back. Just get him into the forest so nobody sees him. I'll be right back." He then rushes off. 

Jono grabs me under the armpits and drags me, adding more pain to the pressure, into the forest. He leans me up against a tree and sits beside me half cradling me. Now Jono isn't one to express emotions, so him doing this was unexpected even if I was in pain. 

Once the pain was over, I was left sweating and panting heavily. Harry came running towards us, not a second later with Derek behind him. Derek pushes past Harry once he sees me and comes to my side but doesn't touch me. Instead he lifts up my hoodie and shirt to reveal a big blue bruise the size of my hand on my lower abdomen. Derek touches it and even though there were tingles and sparks it still hurts and I flinch. I thought I saw Derek smirk, but it's gone just as quickly as I saw it.

I know what I must do if I want this pain and bruise to go away.

"Jono can you please go get me a bottle of water from the school cafeteria" I say knowing it would take a good five to ten minutes for him to do that. He just nods and turns to go get me my water. Before he goes I yell out to him" and don't tell anyone. Please. "I practically beg. To that he just nods again and yells "okay." 

Once he is out of sight I reach out my hand and let it hover over the grass. Forgetting Harry and Derek is there I let all my focus onto my hand and picture in my head, the moisture from the grass rising to cover my hand. While Harry and Derek are just sitting there awestruck I lift my shirt back up and place my water covered hand onto my bruise.

I wince at first but then the slight pain turns to pleasure as my power starts to work. You see, when I'm using my water power I have the ability to heal. Nothing big like a chopped of limb or cancer or anything but just scrapes and bruises. The water on my hand starts to glow and spread over my bruise as I concentrate hard. In a matter of seconds the bruise has faded and the pain has subsided.

We, Derek, Harry and I, sit in silence for a few minutes until Derek goes to speak.

“That was amazing. How did you do that?" If I'm not mistaken I thought I heard a little anger, envy and relief in his voice. Why? I am not sure. I was about to answer when Jono comes back to us with some water.

He silently hands it to me and I gulp it all down, restoring the energy inside me. I stand up and leave to go have an early break as period two is nearly over and our fifteen minute break goes to start.

The day passed by uneventful after that and I still hadn't figured out why I was in pain this morning. I avoided everybody all day and at lunch I just went to the field and done a few laps around the track to get my mind of things. At the end of the day I found myself walking through the forest with a lot on my mind. First of all I wanted to know why Derek came to my school, a human school at that and accepted me as his mate and secondly what that pain was caused by?

I found myself in the backyard at home with Jeff a couple of minutes later. Since I had already had a run today we just went on to hand and hand combat. We went from one, one, two, two, one to punch, punch, round house kick. I had improved over the years in my fighting in human form and have almost become as skilled as Jeff who was once a personal trainer in fighting at the Werewolf Protection Agency.

After training I went inside and got Jeff and I something to eat. We sat at the table and then I decided to ask him if he knew a book about werewolves we had.

"Yeah of course. Who would I be if I didn't? he joked. I grin for the first time today. He goes up stairs and comes back down a few minutes later with a very heavy looking book He hands it to me and I take it with a thanks. I head to my room, lock the door and blast my music.

I sit down on the floor and lean on my bed. I open the book to the contents page and look through it. I see a section about mates and see underneath that a sub heading titled rejection. I flip to that page and read through it.

 It said

'If a mate is rejected, the rejection can't be undone. When a mate is rejected normally you weaken. If you are feeling a pain in your lower abdomen and heart, it usually means your mate is...'

M jaw drops and I found tears starting to fall down my face. I re-read that sentence just to make sure my mind isn't playing tricks on me. It wasn't. I look down and read it just once more.

'If you are feeling a pain in your lower abdomen and heart, it usually means your mate is sexually active with another person right at that moment.'
