Chapter 15
Jesse’s POV
Three days ago I found out that my dad was living on the same island as the guy I owed my heart to. I woke up in the tent and Daman was already up and staring at me. ‘Please tell me you weren’t watching me sleep?’ I questioned sleepily.
‘I can tell you that but I’d be lying,’ Daman smirked. I just smiled back at him before sitting up. ‘So you are actually going to leave?’
I nodded. ‘It’s my only chance to find my dad so I guess I should take it,’ I babbled. ‘At least I’ll get to see Kayda, I’ve missed her loads,’ I finished. Daman nodded understandingly. ‘My offer still stands Daman.’ My offer was that I’d help Daman get out of camp along with Chris. I know that the two of them have fancied each other since we came to this camp.
‘I’d love to but I need to get cured from my stupid issue,’ Daman grumbled and then looked at me with his denim blue eyes.
‘And this camp isn’t going to solve any of your problems bro. A blind man could tell that you have fallen for Christopher and he’s fallen for you,’ I admitted which made Daman gasp.
‘Is it that obvious?’ Daman asked as he looked at me and then hugged his arms over his belly. ‘Wait, Christopher has fallen in love with me?’
I nodded and smiled at Daman. ‘So you have a chance to go out there and be free or you can stay cooped up in here for the rest of your life until you turn straight which isn’t going to happen.’
‘But what would happen if Chris doesn’t want to come and I leave alone?’ Daman worried.
‘Well there is only one way to find out I guess,’ I answered before quickly running from the tent before Daman could stop me and heading to the third one which belonged to Fletcher and Christopher.
‘Jesse!’ Daman shouted behind me which obviously woke a few guys up because there was a lot of grunting following us which made me laughed even louder. I fell into Christopher tent, Fletcher was already gone which was good because if not I would have crushed him. I zipped up the tent before Daman got to it which made me laugh when he ran into the material.
‘Jesse?’ Christopher asked as he rubbed his eyes and then looked at me, his green eyes glowed with the sunlight which was coming from the plastic window.
‘Daman fancies you,’ I quickly spat as Daman managed to unzip the tent and then he jumped into it and landed on top of me. ‘Tell him then Daman,’ I laughed as I squeezed Daman’s chin.
‘Is it true Daman?’ Christopher asked as he sat up alert with a smile on his face. Daman’s cheeks blushed a light shade of pink which answered the question easily enough.
‘Okay, kiss and pack your things so we can leave as quickly as possible before Philip wakes up,’ I urged as I pushed Daman off of me and onto Christopher causing him to make that “ouff” sound.
‘Where are we going?’ Chris asked but he didn’t take his eyes away from Daman’s which made me smirk, they are defiantly in love.
‘Out of here,’ I answered simply. ‘Now chop-chop,’ I said as I clapped my hands. I kicked Daman’s arm which was the only thing stopping him from flattening Chris and he fell on top of them before they went into a embrace of passionate kissing. ‘Ew that disgusting,’ I teased. Daman and Christopher both put their middle finger up at me at matching times whilst I left the tent.
We were all showered and clean. I called a taxi to meet us down the road from the camp and we had all our things packed which we would need including some food which Daman had stolen from the kitchen. ‘Is everyone ready?’ I asked as we all sat in my tent. Daman and Chris both nodded their heads.
‘How are we going to get out? There is a metal fence around the entire perimeter,’ Christopher asked as he held onto Daman’s hand.
‘At the far end in the forest beside the waterfall there is a broken board in the wooden fence and we can get out of there. Any more questions?’ I asked as I stood up, picking all my bags up with me. The guys shook their heads. ‘Good.’
‘Are you sure you want to do this Daman?’ Chris asked as he looked at Daman. Daman nodded and then smiled back at Christopher before kissing his cheek lightly then following my lead. I poked my head out of the tent door and like before everyone was still sleeping. Daman and Chris were still holding hands when we got out of the tent. I quickly began running but I looked back ever so often to check if the guys were still close behind me.
‘We will have to go through here then climb over that wall,’ I announced pointing at the brick wall which stood in front of us on the opposite side of the wooden fence.
‘I can’t climb, I’ll have to stay behind,’ Christopher moaned.
‘Forget it if you think we are leaving you,’ Daman informed before going through the wooden fence whilst pulling Christopher behind him. Luckily we were all pretty slim so we all fit through the missing panel easily.
‘What are you doing?!’ I heard Philip shout behind us which made everyone speed up. Daman jumped onto the wall and I followed but Christopher stood on the opposite side looking upset. Daman and I both dropped out hands down. I quickly threw Christopher’s bag over the wall and it landed with ours. I could see Philips head bouncing on the other side of the fence as he ran closer.
‘Give me your hand!’ Daman said loudly as he put his hand out again. I copied him and the Chris jumped up until he had both of our hands. We quickly began pulling him whilst Philip watched in disbelief from the opposite side of the fence seen as he was too large to fit through the gap. Chris used the wall so he could use his feet to make it easier for us to pull him over. Philip began trying to squeeze through the fence just as we gave Christopher one last pull which got him onto the top of the wall. He looked at the other side and the drop before shutting his eyes.
‘I can’t jump off there,’ Chris mumbled as he kept his eyes shut. Daman groaned before jumping off the wall then standing in front of Chris with his arms out.
‘Jump,’ Daman instructed as he gave Christopher a reassuring smile. I looked back and I could see Philip actually getting through the fence. Chris was still sat on the wall and I began to get worried. I pushed Christopher just hard enough so he’d drop from the wall and he landed in front of Daman as I jumped down behind him. Everyone picked up their bags including Christopher who looked like he was about to suffer a heart attack. Daman grabbed onto his hand as we all began running across the sidewalk like mad men to where I had called the taxi to meet us.
I paid the cab driver as he dropped us of next to the mall closest to all our houses. ‘Thank you Jesse,’ Christopher said, he still hadn’t taken his hand away from Daman’s, not even after the four hour long driver to get here.
‘For what?’ I asked completely unaware of what he was on about.
‘For helping me get out of that camp. At least Daman and I will be able to be together,’ Christopher said like he was quoting a cheesy movie. Daman kissed Chris’s hair. ‘Anyway give me your number so we can stay in contact,’ Chris said as he took his phone from his pocket. I took mine and put my number on the screen so he could copy it into his phone.
‘We best start heading to my grandma’s then,’ Daman decided as he gave me a friendly smile. ‘Like Chris said, thank you,’ Daman said. He let go off Christopher’s hand and then hugged me and Christopher followed.
‘Make sure you don’t forget about me,’ I demanded as I smiled at them both. ‘I best go then, I need to find Kayda so we can book a flight to Driftwood.’ I waved at the guys as I turned to walk away. When I looked back at them they were holding hands and walking in the opposite direction of me.
The truck wasn’t outside of the apartment which meant my mom wasn’t in. I quickly darted up the stairs and ran straight into the apartment. A stale smell hit my nose and I felt like throwing up. Two months without this place surly changes a guy. ‘Kayda,’ I called through the apartment. I heard a door slam and then Kayda ran out of the lounge and jumped onto me with her hands around my neck.
‘Why are you home early?’ she asked as she wrapped her legs around my thighs.
‘Because I know where dad is, we’re going to Driftwood!’ I exclaimed. Kayda dropped from my neck and looked at me in awe.
‘Are you being serious Jesse?’ Kayda asked looking overwhelmed. I nodded my head; I couldn’t even stop myself from smiling.
‘Go pack your things quickly. This is the last month which tourist can go to Driftwood,’ I muttered as I ran over to my laptop and turned it on.
I had found out that each ticket to get on a flight to Driftwood was $500 each. ‘Where is moms drink stash?’ I asked Kayda as I continued to put things into my suitcase.
‘You can’t take her money Jesse, she will go crazy,’ Kayda whined.
‘Who cares? We’re leaving today so she can hardly do anything,’ I muttered as I pre-booked some tickets. ‘Kayda where is the jar?’ I repeated. My voice was firm and I was getting annoyed.
‘Under her bed,’ Kayda answered giving in to my request. I quickly stood up then ran into the lounge before taking the jar which was full of money, like over twenty thousand dollars. I took the money I needed and shoved it into my pocket.
‘Kayda are you almost done?’ I asked Kayda again. She walked in the room with her suitcase and a smile on her face. ‘Let’s go find dad.’
When we got to the airport we had fifteen minutes before the gate was getting closed. I paid the money easily and we got onto the plane. Kayda and I both had passport from times when we had been dragged to places like Los Vegas so mom could go make money. I couldn’t stop myself from smiling as the plane lifted off from the ground. I held Kayda’s hand tightly in mine as I watched out the window. Kayda twisted her dark brown hair in her fingers as she tried to see out the window as well. ‘Can you believe it Kay? We’re going to see dad,’ I said quietly as I tapped my feet on the floor.
‘Are we staying there?’ Kayda asked. I nodded and she smiled. ‘But what about mom?’
‘What about her? She didn’t care about us anyway. We’ll have money and you’ll be able to go to school normally and have friends round. That’s if we find him,’ I said excitedly.
‘I want a puppy if we find him,’ Kayda said with a cheery smile. I smiled back at her as I continued to look out the window at the city of LA. I’ll be able to see Charles and dad.
