Chapter 19

Charles’s POV

Week two without Jesse passed slowly. I was forbidden to leave my room for the first two days after my travels outside of the palace. One of those days I decided to hide under my bed for an entire day which I thought was hilarious because everyone thought I had gone missing and then I had another day added which sucked.

‘I’m calling Callie,’ I spat as Leon perched on the end of my bed.

‘Do whatever you like Prince, I can’t stop you,’ Leon replied simply as he continued to sit in front of me. I just rolled my eyes then crawled off my bed, not the best idea since my bed is like two feet from the floor, and then I landed on my knees which hurt badly. ‘Are you okay Prince?’ Leon asked as he jumped up and rushed over to me before trying to help me up.

‘I’m fine Leon, please just leave my room because I need some time alone whilst I speak to Callie,’ I requested as I stood up whilst wafting Leon away and then I walked over to my white dresser which had my mobile phone on top of it. I picked it off quickly then began looking through my contacts before finding Callie’s number. ‘Leon you’re dismissed,’ I decided trying not to get angry with him, I mean he is only doing his job.

‘Thank you Prince,’ Leon responded as he walked out of my room quickly with his head down.

‘Hello?’ Callie said down the phone completely unaware that it was me calling. I’ve been band to give my number out.

‘Hey, it’s Charles,’ I said which made Callie go “mmm” meaning she understood. ‘So I have a plan,’ I stated as I walked slowly back to my bed.

‘A plan for what?’ Callie asked, clueless again.

‘What do you thing? To get the guys back,’ I answered.

‘Oh okay, what is it?’ Callie questioned.

‘Maybe if I take some of the weapons from the guards without them seeing, then I could sneak out of the palace and hope I get taken by the kidnapper; I’ll have the weapons with me though so I can shoot him in the face when he shows me where he is keeping the boys,’ I explained my plan. I heard Callie sigh which made me frown.

‘Please don’t Char, you’re going to get hurt and plus you are putting yourself in danger,’ Callie responded.

‘How do you know? This might actually work and I need my friends back Callie. If something happens to them I’ll never forgive myself,’ I mumbled.

‘What and you think the guys would be happy if you got hurt in the progress?’ Callie questioned. I was going to answer her before she began speaking again, ‘Charles you are the Prince of Driftwood, if the kidnapper got you then he wouldn’t need anyone else and plus your mom would be more willing to hand the crown over if it’s you he’s got. Plus he would probably give you guys all less time to live because if he has you he is in control over everyone because they would all want to save you,’ Callie explained.

‘I don’t care, at least I know that the guys will be safe,’ I muttered before hanging up.

‘Charles,’ my mother said as she walked into the throne room where I was just “chilling” with me feet falling over the side of the throne whilst I slouched back.

‘Yes mother,’ I responded simply. My mother walked over to me then pushed my feet of the throne arm which made my entire turn around; she then sat formally in the throne beside me.

‘I’ve noticed that you haven’t been yourself lately,’ she begins but I cut her off.

‘If you didn’t notice but my friends got take from the palace, I won’t be myself again until I know that they are safely returned,’ I answered.

‘I don’t understand Charles; we are trying our best to get the men back. Who is that Jesse person anyway?’ My mother asked as she waved her finger when she said “Jesse”.

‘I was with him in America,’ I muttered trying not to say to much.

‘Then why does the man want him? If he is just a friend he shouldn’t care to much about him, unless he is now taking anyone who comes within a few meters of the palace,’ my mother gasped as she covered her mouth with her hand.

‘I love him mother,’ I said quietly.

‘What?’ my mother screeched as she stood up from her seat. ‘You, love another man?’ I nodded my head before looking at my fingers whilst playing with my nails. ‘But Charles that is a sin!’

‘No mother, since when has it been a sin to love? No one can help who they fall in love with and Jesse happens to be the person I’ve fallen in love with,’ I stated without moving my gaze from my fingers.

I hear my mother breathe loudly before she continues, ‘but Charles, we raised you differently.’

‘It doesn’t matter how you raised me, I still will fall in love with someone,’ I answered getting straight to the point. ‘Know either you get someone to do a better job of finding the boys or I’ll do it myself.’

‘I’m trying my best Charles,’ my mother answered before she rushed off, he shoes clicking on the marble floor of the throne room. I rolled my eyes before continuing to play with my nails.

I was stood in the horse stables looking for something I could take to attack anyone who was going to kidnap me on my voyage to find my friends. ‘Prince!’ Leon called as he walked into the stable.

‘Yes Leon,’ I answered.

‘What are you doing in here?’ He asked stupidly.

‘Well this is a stable that contains horses, I guess I’m going to be tending the horses,’ I lied. I heard Leon tut at my cheek but he just turned around and walked off, his feet making weird noises as he walked through the straw. I quickly began just loading my clothes with different things that looked like they could help me which included: a small gun, a knife and something with the horse tenders use to cut the hay.

‘Prince Charles, would you like to take one of the horses for a ride?’ Mark, one of the horse tenders asked as he walked up behind me.

I shut my eyes tightly hoping he would magically disappear. ‘No thank you Mark, I’ll come out later on tonight though if you wouldn’t mind?’ I asked as I smiled politely whilst turning to face Mark who was also smiling.

‘Of course I wouldn’t mind Prince Charles, you are welcome anytime,’ Mark said as he smiled a little bit wider. I bowed quickly before rushing away from the stable in search for the best get away.

I wandered the streets like a lost baby duckling. Every sound made me flinch and turn around thinking someone was just going to take me. To be honest I was pretty surprised how I got out of the palace ground without someone spotting me. I had a huge coat on which disguised the lumps in my blazer a little better even though it is midway through summer and the sun is blazing. My mobile phone with a tracking-device was shoved into the bottom of my pocket and I tried to look as casual as possible even though I was dying trying to stop myself from passing. With each step I took it felt like another stone had been added onto my weight. My vision became blurred as the sun heated up my jacket a little more. I made it to a bench then sat down before removing the huge coat from me and revealing the bumps which were weapons. ‘Charles!’ I could hear a familiar female voice calling behind me.

I turned to see Rosanne walking quickly towards me. ‘What do you want Rosanne?’ I asked, completely unimpressed by what was going on. Had she followed me out of the palace? ‘Please go back to the palace Rosanne, it isn’t safe out here,’ I said quietly as I looked around for someone who could be hiding behind the bushes or something.

‘I know Char baby, I saw you leaving though and I couldn’t let you out alone,’ Rosanne insisted as she came closer to me then sat beside me before snuggling up to my sweating body.

‘Watch out Princess, I have a gun,’ I quickly told Rosanne as she tried to squeeze me tighter.

‘I know what you did with him Charles,’ Rosanne said as she continued to hug me. Her voice didn’t seem as friendly as usual though, she seemed angry.

‘What are you talking about Rosanne?’ I question, confused.

‘Jesse isn’t just a friend is he Charles? Well don’t let me get in the way of that,’ Rosanne responded as she pulled away from me then grabbed my neck. ‘You can have him as long as you like,’ Rosanne added with an evil laugh. Before I could even respond I felt my body going numb. Everything went black.

Chandler’s POV

I wondered round the palace with my crutches in my hand. ‘Have you seen Leon?’ I asked different workers in the palace nervously as I rushed through the main hall. They all shook their heads with a worried look. ‘Leon!’ I shouted as I tried to speed myself up even though I was going as fast as I could.

‘Prince Chandler, what is wrong?’ Elton asked as he appeared from the archway which connected the main hall with the conservatory which led to the back garden.

‘Where is your brother?’ I asked quickly as I brought myself to a halt.

‘Urm, I’ll need more than just that. You do realise I have eight brothers,’ Elton said with a smile. I returned the smile quickly but then continued to look at him like I’d seen a ghost.

‘I’m mean Leon,’ I said quickly, Elton shook his head. 'I’ve sent Vincent to find him so if you see him around can you tell him I’m going to be in either the Music room or the White Drawing room please?’ I asked politely as I bowed to him and he bowed back. He nodded slightly and then began getting back to whatever it was he was doing whilst I began heading towards the Music room.

‘Leon!’ I called as I looked through bookcases in the palace library. The music room and the white drawing room had been unsuccessful and I kind of guessed that Leon enjoys reading so this was my third best choice. ‘Leon!’ I called again.

‘Yes Prince Chandler?’ Leon said as he jumped from round a bookcase causing me to jump backwards slightly before holding on the desk next to me to steady my balance. ‘Oh I am so sorry Prince Chandler, I didn’t mean to startle you,’ Leon began as he held onto my forearm trying to support me.

‘It is fine Leon,’ I said with a slight laugh before remembering why I had actually been looking for him. ‘Have you seen Charles by any chance? You see I asked the guards and they said he hadn’t left his room, and I asked Alfred but he has been with Kenneth and Kayda getting tutored all day,’ I began. I swear I saw Leon’s ears prick up when I said that I couldn’t find Charles. Instantly he ran past me and I followed slowly behind him.

‘Charles?!’ Leon began calling his name repeatedly as he searched through Charles room. He checked under the bed then ran over to the open window. ‘He left,’ Leon said with a shocked expression as he looked at me. I wanted to scream then climb out the window after him but that possibly wouldn’t be the best idea. As I limped over to the window I could see Rosanne running towards the gate.

‘Someone help!’ She shouted as the guards rushed to her side. ‘Charles has been taken!’ She screamed as she collapsed into the arms of a guard.

‘No,’ I whispered as I looked out the window at Rosanne as she looked like she was struggling for breath. From where I was stood on the second floor I could only just make out she was crying. Within seconds a group of palace workers were crowding around her whilst I just stood at the window feeling completely useless. ‘Please not Charles,’ I said quieter as I knelt on the light blue window seat which Charles had designed himself with Kenneth.

‘Chandler!’ I heard Alfred call as he stood in the door frame. He was crying and then I realised I was as well.

‘Alfie,’ I spoke as I stood up then began heading towards my sobbing brother. As soon as I reached him I threw my crutches to the floor then just wrapped my arms around his neck. He pushed his head into my shoulder whilst I tried my best to comfort him even though I was dying on the inside. My little brother had been taken by the kidnapper/murderer, perfect.

Charles’s POV

I could smell a disgusting smell of smoke as I began opened my eyes. ‘He’s waking up sir,’ I heard someone say.

‘Throw him in quickly then,’ a different someone replied as I began getting dragged quickly over the floor, my shoes were beginning to fall off my feet. And then I felt my head bang against something hard and a loud metal bang caused me to open my eyes. I wasn’t sure where I was, the room was made from broken bricks and concrete. My eye sight wasn’t focused completely but I could make a few things out. As I began to sit up a headache hit me instantly. I rubbed my fingers lightly over my skull and then I felt liquid. I pulled my hand away quickly and looked at the blood on it. Well my hair is definitely ruined. The headache didn’t bother me too much; I was more bothered about the cut which had blood pouring from my head. I took my blazer of quickly and pushed it onto my head, and then I remembered something. The weapons were gone, that means I’ve been taken by the kidnappers. Someone gasped and I looked at them before they rushed to my side.

‘It’s me Charles,’ I heard the familiar voice of Geoffrey. ‘You’re okay, I’ve got you,’ Geoffrey added. I couldn’t help but let a smile form on my lips as I looked towards him. I wasn’t dreaming, I’d actually found my best friend.

‘Geoffrey,’ I said, it came out a lot quieter then I had expected. ‘Where are we?’ I asked as I held onto his arm whilst he took the blazer and held it against my head.

‘It doesn’t matter right now, all that matters is that you’re safe,’ Geoffrey began as he fussed over me. I rolled my eyes, the usual Geoffrey. ‘Jesse!’ Geoffrey called. I instantly went it to freak out mode as I jumped up from the floor at the sound of his name.

‘What do you wan- Charles!’ Jesse shouted as he walked quickly over to me in the tiny prison cell and then he wrapped his arms around me. I nuzzled my head into his neck and breathed loudly. ‘Why did you leave the palace?’ Charles asked, I didn’t completely remember so I just stayed silent.

‘Are you okay?’ I asked as I pulled away from Jesse then looked at the scar which was forming on his head. I traced my finger over it lightly. ‘What happened?’ I asked.

‘Nothing, I tripped, banged my head. What happened to your head?’ Jesse asked.

‘I hit it on the floor when I got thrown in here.’

‘That bastard,’ Jesse cursed angrily as he kicked the wall. ‘Let Geoffrey sort your head out whilst I go wake the boys up.’ I nodded even though I didn’t want to be away from Jesse.

‘Oi, jerks get up!’ Jesse yelled which made me laugh. I knew he was joking because he had a smile on his face. ‘We have a guest,’ Jesse added. When Finnley and Julian sat up I hardly recognised them. Finn’s face was covered in scars whilst Julian had a slight bend in his back.

‘What happened to you two?’ I asked curiously as I looked the guys up and down.

‘Master got angry, kicked me in my stomach, broke some of my ribs,’ Julian said panting as he walked over to my looking a little like a hunchback. ‘Finn tried to stop him so he got pushed into something,’ Julian finished casually as he continued to walk over to me.

‘Why won’t he give you help then? You are obviously hurt so you need a doctor or to go to the hospital. Something could go seriously wrong if you don’t get sorted out Jules,’ I began to panic as I felt the pain of my open wound on my head.

‘Don’t you think we know that Char? We’ve been asking for help for at least a week but the master is afraid that if we get to the hospital we will spill his secret and then leave, even though I promised him we wouldn’t’,’ Geoffrey added. I looked at him in disbelief, what the hell have I gotten myself into?

The guys were explaining everything from this place whilst I sat in tears whilst pressing myself into the corner which was filled with cobwebs but I didn’t care. Jesse was slouched on the wall beside me in a very uncomfortable position. Julian was lying on Finnley’s legs, I sort of guess that with the state his belly was in he couldn’t lie on the floor properly; to be honest Finn’s legs were probably comfier anyway. Geoffrey on the other hand was trying to sit as close to me as possible. ‘You do know it was Rosanne don’t you?’ Geoffrey questioned randomly.

‘What was Rosanne?’ I asked through tears.

‘The person who got my brothers kidnapped in the first place, and Jesse,’ Geoffrey continued. ‘She saw you and Jesse in your room and she thought you was going to end things with her so she took him Jesse to the main yard and said she knew where his dad was, then she hit him round the back of the head and he was knocked out instantly. Her father came and brought him here,’ Geoffrey added. I looked at him; my mouth was so wide open it was a shock it wasn’t dragging on the floor.

‘Please tell me you are joking Geoffrey, this really isn’t the time for joking,’ I began as I felt myself heating up again. ‘Wake up Charles, wake up,’ I repeated to myself as I pinched my pale skin.

‘If only this was a dream, Char,’ Jesse replied softly. I wanted to scream but I knew that I’d probably get punished or fed some stupid drug that would calm me down. Jesse began crawling over to me before stretching out his arms. Without even thinking about it I just fell into them and began crying into his bicep.

‘I’ve missed you so much, Jesse,’ I whispered as Jesse kissed my hair lightly.
