Chapter 21

Jesse’s POV

I watched Charles take his shoe off quickly. ‘What are you going to do with your shoe Charles? How is that going to help us?’ Geoffrey asked as he walked over to where Charles and I were stood.

‘Just watch,’ Charles instructed as he began pulled his shoe off his foot showing his white socks. I furrowed my eyebrows as I watched Charles scrape his shoe on the wall; it was making a horrible sound as the metal hit the bricks.

‘Prince, please stop. Those shoes cost over four thousand pounds!’ Geoffrey shouted as he tried to pull Charles away from the wall.

‘I don’t care about money right now. It is either I use these shoes or else we all die,’ Charles grunts as he continues to scrape his shoe fast whilst kicking Geoffrey away. ‘Trust me with this one,’ Charles mumbled as he hit his shoe repeatedly on the wall. I heard the metal clink with the hall as he continued to hit it.

After roughly half an hour Charles was now picking at his shoe instead of thumping it on the wall. I could see sharp pieces of metal poking from the tears in the black leather. ‘Charles please stop, you’re going to hurt yourself,’ I insisted as I walked over to him then held onto the shoe. I could feel the metal spiking into my hand but it didn’t really bother me. Charles yanked the shoe back causing a sharp pain through my hand.

‘I’ve almost finished,’ Charles muttered as he scraped the shoe on the floor, it made a horrible sound.

‘What are you actually doing?’ I questioned as I knelt down beside him.

‘Finished,’ Charles claimed as he stood up then walked over to the metal bars. He pushed has hand through one of the gaps in the bar and began doing something. Geoffrey and I shared confused glances before we both went to Charles.

‘Just one more thing,’ Charles said quietly before he hit his shoe lightly on the opposite side of the cell. And then the metal door pushed open. I gasped loudly as I looked around.

‘How did you do that?’ I asked as Charles held onto my hand tightly.

‘It was something your dad taught me when I was younger. I never had to use it because I wasn’t allowed out of the palace but I used it pretty often when I got sent to my room,’ Charles laughed. ‘Anyway, this is our chance to escape. We need to find a phone and call the palace. Geoffrey and Finnley, help Julian and we need to just get out of here,’ Charles decided as he gave my hand a slight tug causing me to trip out of the cell behind him.

‘Are you sure Prince, what will happen if we get caught?’ Geoffrey asked as he helped Julian off the cold, concrete floor.

‘I guess we will have to find out,’ Charles responded as he continued to walk further from the cell. I held onto his pale hand tightly as I stroked his knuckles gently with my thumb. ‘Follow me,’ Charles whispered as he began walking down the long, dark hallway which was lit up by some flickering candles on the wall. It reminded me of something you would see in a haunted house.

We were walking slowly through the corridors trying to find an escape when Charles pushed me back into a doorway. ‘Dude what the hell?’ I spat quietly.

‘Someone is coming. Quickly get in here,’ Charles whispered just loud enough so the three butlers could hear him. They quickly rushed into the door frame and Geoffrey stood at the front of us all.

‘They’re gone!’ I heard a girl shriek. ‘Daddy, how could you let my prince go?!’ the obvious voice of Rosanne rung in my ears. I could feel Charles grip tighten on my hand. I looked at him quickly and gave him a reassuring smile.

‘Guards, why did you let them go?!’ the master voice boomed through the corridors followed by a gun shot. I knew that he had shot someone because another of the guards started shouting before they ran straight past our doorframe hide out. ‘Get back here you inconsiderate prick!’ I heard master shouting, and then he ran past our doorframe also followed by his daughter Rosanne. Well that’s rich coming from him. Geoffrey poked his head from the doorframe before nodding at us which meant the coast was clear.

‘Light!’ Finnley shouted as he pointed towards a open door. We all picked up speed as we began sprinting to the door.

‘Not so fast,’ someone spoke. I didn’t even have chance to look back as Charles tried to pull me through the doorframe. But then I felt something hit me. My legs instantly went dead and I fell to the muddy ground of the outside world. Charles hand left mine and my vision began to vanish. Everything went black, was I dead?

Charles’s POV

‘Jesse,’ I muttered as Geoffrey slammed the door shut locking the master inside. I watched the blood form a puddle around Jesse lifeless body. He wasn’t dead though, not yet anyway.

Jesse eyes opened slightly and he just stared at me. ‘I love you Charles,’ Jesse whispered and then his eyes snapped shut. His chest rose lightly as he breathed quietly and peacefully.

‘Please open your eyes,’ I whispered blanking everything around me out. It felt like it was just me and him. ‘I love you too,’ I whispered as I pressed my lips to his hair.

‘Julian,’ I heard Geoffrey croak which bought me back to reality. My head switched to Julian who was also lying on the floor. Finnley was clutching his arm as blood wept through the gaps in his fingers. I could hear both Geoffrey and Finnley crying. ‘We need to get away from here; this door isn’t going to stay closed forever. Finnley help me take Julian,’ Geoffrey decided as he took charge. I picked Jesse up underneath his arms and began dragging him across the mud.

‘Where the hell are we?’ I questioned as we got out of the forest and ended up in some muddy streets.

‘It’s your island!’ Geoffrey responded as he cradled Julian like a baby. Finnley and I were holding Jesse over our arms, ever so often he would speak to us but then he went back to being unconscious. ‘Just come this way, I think that the town is this way,’ Geoffrey insisted as he began walking quickly. Finnley sighed but he then continued to walk with me as we followed Geoffrey. I could hear Finnley panting loudly; I guess his wound was really starting to hurt.

Geoffrey stopped walking ahead of us and then began waving his arms like a mad man whilst resting Julian on the floor. It was then that I noticed a cart with a horse coming towards us. Finnley and I jogged steadily after Geoffrey as he bounced on the floor. The horse began slowing down as I walked closer to the cart. ‘Prince,’ a girl said, it was the girl I met when I was searching for the guys that time.

‘Savannah,’ I muttered. ‘Can you do us a huge favour?’ I questioned as I walked to the steps of the cart. Savannah nodded happily. ‘Can you take us to the hospital please, and quickly?’ Savannah pushed the door of the cart open then helped us inside of it. Geoffrey was giving me a confused look and I smirked at him.

Days passed, then weeks, six of them. There was still no sign of Jesse coming around from his coma. Julian was discharged from hospital two weeks ago; he is now paralysed from waist down. The hospital had told us there was no chance of him gaining any feeling back in his lower body. Oh and me, I’m on medication for minor depression. I haven’t left the hospital once since Jesse got put in here. I am certain that he will come around from his coma, positive. Our kidnapper got put in prison, I’m not sure how long for but if it has anything to do with me he’ll be staying in there for life. Roseanne ran away though, she never even got caught. A soon as we left her dungeon she left for some other country, which one, I’m not sure.

‘Prince Charles, your mother would like you to come home and get some rest,’ Geoffrey told me for the forty-second time in a row.

‘I’m not going home, not until Jesse is better,’ I replied as I played with Jesse’s hospital gown.

‘But Prince, this is making you ill,’ Geoffrey lectured.

‘I don’t care, I’m fine,’ I grumbled as I rested my head on the mattress of the hospital bed. ‘Now you can either leave me alone or do something useful.’

‘Prince you must go home now,’ Geoffrey insisted but I shook my head. ‘You can come straight back after, I promise.’ I continued to shake my head. ‘Charles someone will come in here and force you away from Jesse if you don’t listen to me now and then you won’t be allowed back to see Jesse,’ Geoffrey explained. I sighed loudly before kicking the chair back roughly causing it to hit something behind me, that didn’t really bother me though.

‘And I’ll be allowed straight back here?’ I asked quietly as I stepped beside Geoffrey. I could tell Geoffrey was trying not to smile, he’s probably happy that I’m actually leaving the hospital. ‘All I need to do is shower?’ I questioned as Geoffrey opened the door for me.

‘You need to eat some food, shower and get a little rest. Then I will bring you straight back here. Whilst we’re gone Kenneth with be here with Jesse though so he won’t be alone Charles.’ I nodded my head whilst following Geoffrey through the hall of the hospital. My face was plain and I showed no emotions. People smiled at me as I passed them but I blatantly ignored them not even caring how rude I looked.

‘Charles, you came home,’ my mother greeted me as she rushed over to me. I hadn’t really spoken to her since I’d been kidnapped. My mother got kept away from the hospital because nobody wanted her getting ill from the hospital patients.

‘I need to shower,’ I stated simply. I smiled at my mother half-heartedly before turning towards the long, carpeted staircase. I could see my mother and Geoffrey exchange worried looks at the corner of my eye but I continued to walk up the stairs.

‘Prince, you’re home,’ Julian said happily as he came in his wheelchair to the top of the stairs. I couldn’t help but smile at him; no matter how hard I was trying to be angry, Julian was just amazing, how far he had gotten since his injury. ‘Is Jesse getting better?’

I shook my head sadly. ‘He’s still the same, don’t worry though Jules; I know he’ll be fine in the end of it all,’ I decided positively.

‘You got that right,’ Julian laughed. I grinned a little before heading towards my bedroom which was at the end of the hall.

‘Chef asked what would you like to eat?’ Geoffrey questioned as he pushed his head around my large bedroom doors. My skin was clean and my hair was wet but someone was coming to dry it for me. I was dressed in some white and gold checkered pyjama bottoms and a plain white t-shirt.

‘I don’t mind,’ I answered truthfully. Anything would be good right now.

‘Okay, how about fruit?’ I shook my head.

‘Pizza,’ I answered quickly. Geoffrey nodded then left the room, the guards closed the doors silently behind him. I groaned out loud before opening my arms then allowing my body to collapse back into my bed and then be sucked in by all the covers and softness. Before I could even do anything else I instantly fell to sleep.

‘I’m up and ready, now can we go back to the hospital Geoffrey?’ I begged as I grabbed onto Geoffrey’s arm, a good night of sleep honestly changes a guy.

‘For a start, wearing slippers with you pyjamas doesn’t mean you are ready, secondly you haven’t even eaten yet,’ Geoffrey reminded me. I rolled my eyes at him. ‘We got you pizza yesterday but you was asleep before you got chance to eat it. I’ve already set you some clothes out so get ready and your food will be waiting Prince,’ Geoffrey stated. I nodded then turned back to the stairs obediently and began running up them. I couldn’t do anything without thinking straight back to Jesse.

I had just sent Geoffrey out to get someone to do my hair and I was waiting patiently in my window seat whilst staring out the window and eating some yoghurt. It felt good to be wearing clean, fresh clothes. I had a pair of blue skinnyish jean and a white shirt with little red birds all over it. I guess Geoffrey wanted me to dress casual today, usually I’d be shot if I wore this in the palace (well not literally but you get my point). ‘Prince, your hairdresser is here,’ Geoffrey’s voice filled the room.

‘Okay, let them in,’ I shouted as I continued to stare out of my window. I hear the door shut lightly which meant my hairdresser was in the room. ‘Can you just do my normal style please?’ I asked casually as I spooned some more raspberry flavoured yoghurt into my mouth.

‘Of course I can Charles, so which style is that, if you don’t mind me asking?’ I heard the voice of someone who wasn’t my normal hairdresser so I whipped my head round.

‘Callie, what are you doing here?’ I questioned. A smile filled my face.

‘Well Geoffrey rang me saying how down you had been. I was supposed to fly out last week but I had exams and everything,’ Callie explained. I put the tub of yoghurt down onto the desk beside me before I sprung up from the seat and clung onto Callie, my arms wrapped around her neck. ‘So I’ve been told that we are going to see Jesse.’

‘No, I’m going to see Jesse. You can stay here if you like, ask Carolina to give you a palace tour or something. I know you’ve never been in Driftwood so you can look around for a little while. I mean it’s not like you haven’t seen Jesse before,’ I tried to change Callie’s mind trying to stop her from wanting to come with me to see Jesse as I released her from my tight embrace.

‘I want to see Jesse; it has been over like two months since I last saw him. Plus I’m sure a visit from his friend will make him want to wake up a little quicker. I mean he loves me,’ Callie stated as she flicked her hand. I could help but smirk.

‘Fine, but I still need my hair doing,’ I announced. ‘So chop, chop!’ I instructed to Callie who looked at me with a “are you serious” face before agreeing.

------------

It's New Year's eve tomorrow; and there is no better way to spend it then going to McDonalds. There is only two chapters and a epilogue left. I'm not sure what to do for the next Charles/Jesse book but I will start writting it sometime near the beginning of 2013.

Anyway, I hope everyones had an amazing 2012 and are going to have a even better 2013! Kiss a tree, hug a skunk. -ALEX!
