Chapter 22
Charles’s POV
Callie and I were sat beside Jesse’s hospital bed. I had my hand intertwined with Jesse’s and I was stroking his pale knuckles gently as he lay there still. ‘So what’s been go on in America?’ I asked Callie even though I was still facing Jesse.
‘Erm…’ Callie responded, completely clueless of what I was saying as she stared at Charles. I blinked at her a few times, her gaze didn’t move from Jesse.
‘Callie,’ I said quietly as I waved my hand in front of her face. Callie shook her head before looking at me.
‘Sorry,’ Callie apologised as she looked at me. ‘What was you saying?’ she questioned.
‘What’s been going on in America?’ I repeated, Callie actually listened this time.
‘Same old,’ Callie replied lazily. ‘I go to school, I do exams, I come home, I sleep, I go back to school the next day,’ Callie spoke stubbornly. I looked at her with a glare.
‘Someone’s being a little sarcastic aren’t they,’ I grunted as I face Callie who smiled childishly at me.
‘Nothing has changed in America babe,’ Callie said with a smirk. ‘A few people are getting kind of curious about where Jesse has gone all of a sudden,’ Callie explained. I nodded.
‘I thought you only started back at school recently?’ I questioned.
‘Yeah, two weeks ago,’ Callie replied with a smile. ‘Oh my God, you know that guy, Ashley, Jesse friend?’ Callie questioned. Without giving me time to answer she continued with what she was saying. ‘He asked me out!’
‘And what did you say?’ I asked impatiently.
‘No.’ Callie answered simply. My mouth dropped open.
‘Why?’
‘Because Ashley’s a jerk, he’s almost as bad as that slag,’ Callie said with a smirk as she eyed Jesse.
‘Leave my Jesse alone,’ I said in defence as I hugged my body over his.
‘Your Jesse?’
‘Yes my Jesse,’ I said proudly. I rested my chin on Jesse’s chest as I fiddled with his hospital gown. His hair was all knotted and gross. His skin was a ghostly pale colour, and he looked dead. ‘Jesse,’ I whispered into his ear lightly, and still, no reaction.
‘Do you want anything to drink Prince?’ Geoffrey asked as he stood up from where he was sat beside Jesse’s dad and Callie.
‘Yes please, can I have some coffee?’ I asked; remembering mine and Geoffrey’s argument about me not being allowed to drink coffee. Geoffrey sighed aloud but stood up.
‘Geoffrey would you like me to help you get drinks?’ Kenneth asked as he stood up, resting his coat on the chair behind him. Geoffrey just nodded in response. ‘Callie what would you like?’
‘Can I just have some cola please?’ Callie asked.
‘What flavour?’ Geoffrey asked.
‘Just the normal flavour please,’ Callie decided. Geoffrey nodded and then smiled politely just as Chandler entered the hospital ward. ‘Prince, Kenneth and I are just getting drinks, would you like one?’
‘Can I just have some herbal tea?’ Chandler asked. Geoffrey nodded then vanished with Kenneth behind him.
‘Herbal tea; really? Since when have you been all into herbs?’ I asked in a mocking way.
‘Since I read it was better for you body then the crap you’re drinking,’ Chandler answered cockily. ‘Actually guys, I’ll go with you,’ Chandler decides as he rushes out of the doorframe which the guys left a few seconds ago.
Callie’s POV
I couldn’t concentrate properly. Jesse was lay on the bed in front of me, his eyes were shut and he wasn’t moving. How could Charles just sit back like its normal? Jesse’s skin was very pale, and he looked weak. He was wearing an oversized hospital gown and Charles had tucked his cover in so it was pressed onto his delicate body. I watched a Charles’s fingers moved over Jesse in a circular motion. ‘Are you okay Callie? You look a little, out of it,’ Charles admitted as he looked at me before smiling.
‘I’m fine, I’m just thinking.’
‘About?’
‘Nothing, it doesn’t matter,’ I spat quickly. ‘Anyway what should we do whilst I’m over this way?’
‘I don’t know, you can go back to the palace and ask Leon or someone to take you on a tour of Driftwood. Not trying to sound like a jerk but I sort of want to stay with Jesse until he gets better,’ Charles insisted.
‘But I’m sure someone will phone you up and tell you if there is anything different with Jesse.’ My whole purpose of coming to Driftwood was to try and get Charles to leave the hospital.
‘But what happens if he wakes up, all alone, confused, in a hospital. If I wasn’t here then I’d never forgive myself.’
‘But Charles, you are making yourself ill.’
Jesse’s POV
***
Charles and I stood at the top of the isle, the crowd was filled with people. Each one of them had pale white faces with red crosses drawn in the centre. I was scared but I didn’t want to show it. Charles was the only person I was with, well the only person with a face. He looked friendly and beautiful, like always. ‘Do you take this man to be you partner for eternity?!’ one of the people with the crosses asked me as they stood up then pushed through the crowd. One by one the people collapsed to the floor as this one person pushed thought.
‘He does,’ Charles insisted. I wanted to talk but my voice didn’t want to work. All of a sudden blood started to pour from the walls. The crowd began screaming and I felt myself falling. The person who was stood in front of us began peeling off her face. My mom.
‘Eternity only exists in death,’ my mother’s voice whispered into my ears. Then everything went black except for two tiny white specks.
***
Beeping, constant beeping.
Bright lights.
‘Jesse, Jesse.’
Louder beeping.
Something warm on my hand.
‘Where am I?’ I managed to whisper.

So it's finally the first day 2013! I'm currently "revising" for a science exam when I get back to school. So far I have written two words... I just can't do it, there is more amusing things to look at then a piece of paper with confusing things on it. -ALEX!
