Chapter 8

Charles’s POV

Just over a week ago Jesse kissed me. Just over a week ago I found out who I actually wanted, who I wanted to take back with me to Driftwood and let’s just say it isn’t a female; it’s Jesse Daniel Taylor. Jesse the player, Jesse the homophobe, Jesse the guy who hasn’t spoken to me since it happened. Since the kiss happened. To be honest he hasn’t really spoken to anyone and for the first time since I came to America Jesse Taylor has been single for over a week. One entire week!

‘I still can’t get over that,’ Callie gasped as she flopped onto the bed beside me then rolled over onto her belly and began texting. ‘Jesse Taylor, single for a week after he kissed you.’

‘I know right. Perhaps people finally came to their senses not to love the guy. After all he is a complete idiot,’ Geoffrey chipped in as I sat silently on my bed playing with Callie iPad.

‘What do you think Charles? I mean of Jesse and everything, you must be pretty shocked by the outcome of a kiss,’ Callie giggled. I just shrugged my shoulders then continued trying to play Temple Run. ‘Anyway what should we do today? You only have five days left in America,’ Callie began as she rested on both her elbows.

‘Let Geoffrey decided,’ I muttered as I flicked my fingers over the iPad trying to control the man. I looked up at Geoffrey then smiled a little.

‘Don’t ask me, I don’t know Los Angeles well. Anyway we can’t do everything because we’re in New York for your birthday and we can come this way so we can see Callie again,’ Geoffrey nagged as he slid onto the floor from his bed.

‘Why don’t we go downstairs and get breakfast? And then we can do baking or something because mom and dad aren’t going to be home until nine tonight,’ Callie decided as she stood up and then began walking to the door. I quickly locked Callie’s iPad then threw it onto the bed before standing up and following her with Geoffrey behind me.

‘If that flour touches me or my hair I swear I’m going to punch you!’ I yelled at Geoffrey as he bounced around the kitchen whilst holding his flour covered hands out in front of him. ‘I’ll fire you!’ I screamed in a high pitched voice as I climb onto the chair and kicked my leg out in front of me so Geoff would come closer.

Geoffrey dropped his hands beside him then looked at me. ‘You’re such a freak Charles now get of the chair you baby,’ Geoffrey mocked as he wiped his hands on a towel covering it in the flour. I rolled my eyes at Geoffrey then put my hands onto his shoulders and jumped down.

‘Don’t call me a baby you jerk. I’ll text Chandler and get him to lower your wage again!’ I threatened jokily as I punched his arm lightly. Geoffrey just smiled then continued helping Callie cut the cookies into shapes. There was a knock at the door and I stood up quickly. ‘I’ll get it,’ I proclaimed as I stood up then slid through the wooden hall whilst my socks glided quietly. I ran a little just to speed up and then I pulled open the door. It was him, Jesse. He looked as though he’d seen a ghost or something.

‘I need to speak to you, alone,’ Jesse voice trembled as I stepped out of the two story house and onto the pebbled floor whilst trying not to hurt my feet.

‘Are you okay? You look as though you could pass out any minute, what’s going on?’ I questioned nervously as I played with my pocket like it was the most enjoyable thing to do, to be honest with you at this moment it was. Jesse looked at me with red eyes and I could see a new gash on the side of his face which was throbbing. ‘Do you want me to do something to that?’ I asked as I eyed his cut then looked at him.

‘Don’t play the innocent Charles, you’ve lied to me, you’ve lied to everyone.’

‘What are you on about Jesse?’ I asked as I looked at him.

‘So which name do you prefer, Charles or Prince?’ How did he find out? Who told him?

‘Who told you Jesse?’ I asked nervously as I tapped my foot lightly on the ground. Jesse shrugged then looked at me.

‘I don’t know her name. Why did you lie to me; to the entire school?’

‘Because I came here for a reason Jesse. I didn’t come to America to make friends; I came here to find love. Someone who likes me for me. I didn’t want to stay in Driftwood because everyone knows me there. They’ll just date me because I have a title, not because they love me,’ I confessed as I looked at Jesse who just rolled his eyes.

‘Who’s Geoffrey then? Your cousin, brother maybe?’ Jesse teased angrily.

‘My butler. If you want the truth then ask me and I’ll answer everything truthfully.’

‘I think I’ve found out all I need to know. You’re a stupid, stuck-up freak from a royal family that sent their son away to find love. You’ve come from the perfect family just to make everyone realise how bad their lives suck,’ Jesse responded whilst looking at the ground. ‘Check you out with the perfect family, your mom and dad both look after you with all your siblings. Guess what, my dad left when I was eight. He left because my mom wouldn’t let him stay, she said she’ll get rid of us if he stayed, and his plane crashed and no one survived. What bad has happened to you then? Did you lose a diamond or something?’

‘You don’t know me Jesse. Just because I’m a Prince doesn’t mean my family or life is perfect,’ I said quietly as I fought back tears.

‘Tell me then Charles, what’s gone wrong in your life? I bet my story will win any day,’ Jesse spat.

‘Okay I’ll tell you what happened Jesse. My mother, she has had a brain tumour for about three month, sure it’s going now but there was a chance she could have died two months ago. I use to have four siblings, now I have three. Chandler, my brother. The one with no leg, he lost his leg whilst trying to rescue my little sister from a car crash. She died two days later from blood loss. She was seven years old Jesse. I got sent here to find love because my mother can’t help me like she did with Chandler,’ I began as I clenched my fist. ‘Geoffrey’s parents got murdered a year ago by a man who was jealous of our family. He is trying to get someone from my family, someone my mother and father care about. He’ll keep them hostage for up to a month and then they get killed unless my family hand over the crown. This is the first time I’ve left the palace in over a year because the island is so scared something bad will happen to me or anyone in my family.’ Jesse looked bewildered. ‘Now tell me what it is that is wrong with your life?’

‘My mom is a drug addict and I’ve spent almost ten years looking after my sister after my dad vanished during a plane crash because my mom said if he didn’t leave we’d get sent away. My mom practically sells herself for money. Everyday I’m scared something will happen to Kayda because of the stupid hookers my mom has lined up. When I was fifteen my mom stabbed me in my belly and I had to stay in hospital without Kayda for two weeks. No one visited me because no one cares. I could fall from the face of the earth and nobody will notice. Sure I still have who I care about with me but I don’t have my dad. My life may not be as bad as yours but it is surely close,’ Jesse muttered. He was actually crying.

‘I can’t do this anymore. You’re right Jesse, I’m sorry. I’ve been so unfair, keeping secrets and whatever. I’ll ask Geoffrey to call the pilot and we’ll be gone by tomorrow. I promise,’ I muttered; the only reason I’m giving in to Jesse so easily is because I have a stinking crush on him. I rushed to the door handle. I then heard some feet scatter away from the door.  ‘Geoffrey please come out here, Callie you stay inside and watch the cookies,’ I instructed. Geoffrey instantly walked out of the door.

‘If he is going to give me a sob story then please get him to save it. Don’t leave Charles, stay here until your time to go has come and then maybe we can make up. I’m sorry about your mom, sister and brother,’ Jesse said to me then he looked at Geoffrey. ‘And I’m sorry about your mom and dad, I didn’t know.’ Geoffrey just shrugged then smartened up his clothes.

‘Anyway we need to go and help Callie,’ Geoffrey decided as he stood behind me and kind of urged me into the house. ‘Good bye Jesse,’ Geoffrey said as he opened the door from me then I walked inside. As soon as the door was closed I burst into tears. I’m not usually the kind of guy to cry but now it just felt like everything I was hiding had kind of burst out of me. Thinking about Lisa-Ann’s death, her lifeless body. My perfect little sister died at the age of seven all because of a drunk driver. Thinking about my mother and how bad she was when she had cancer, how depressed everything was on our island. Think about Jesse, the guy who hated me from day one had just confessed everything to me. He practically poured his soul out to me, like his entire life had just been given to me in five minutes.

Can you believe it? I actually got T to edit this before it got uploaded! A miracle I know. Okay I'm not sure if this has been an issue in this book yet but I tend to have a rather rubbish memory so I forget things super easily and T's just as bad. Some of the things may have been changed in this book or repeated just because I've forgotten that I already wrote it. Sorry if it has but I'll try my best to remember, I've even tried to jot all the main things I need to remember on a piece of paper but I'm sorry if I get bits wrong or repeat my self. This chapter was again just to explain things better. Sorry if it sucks, I've gotten into a habit of going to be at stupid times and waking up a stupid times so I'm always super tired which is affecting my work. Plus is that time for fireworks which makes it worse but I love fireworks! Okay enough ranting about rubbish... -ALEX!
