Soul's P.O.V

“Baby relax, everything will be okay,” Tom whispered to Mike, but it echoed in the long hollow hallway. I was leaning against the wall with my ankles crossed and my hands in my pockets while Tom and Mike both sat on the floor by the door. Mike's face was red and his fists were clenched, he hadn't let Tom's being beaten go and went straight to the principal. Unfortunately Tom suffered no permanent damage and didn't post a personal complaint so the teachers couldn't do anything except place them in detention for using physical violence on school grounds. And like we'd all expected, Mike didn't take their easy escape very well. He was currently holding a grudge against his own boyfriend for not serving justice for dinner.

“Mike, don't okay?” I said sternly to him. He flicked his gaze up from the floor to my face and glared.

“What if it had of been Abbey?” he asked me darkly. I gulped at the horrible mental image and shoved it away.

“Then I would respect your way of handling it. It'd be her situation, not mine, and it'd be up to her what she wants done” I lied convincingly. Truth was, if it had of been Abbey who'd gotten hurt, all hell would have broken loose. Mike was doing very well to contain himself. Looks like Tom was really learning to tame him.

“Exactly,” Tom smirked at me, he knew I was lying but was amused at my defence. Mike looked up at we sceptically and seemed to decide not to bother arguing.

“Whatever,” he muttered and looked down the empty hall. The door to the principals office opened and the balding wiry chubby man with glasses peeked out.

“The boys aren't pressing punishment against Mike, luckily for you,” he scolded down at Mike. Tom smiled but Mike just groaned and got to his feet.

“So I can go then?” he grumbled.

“Yes, but I'd watch myself if I were you. You're skating on very thin ice young man,” the principal advised. Mike rolled his eyes and grabbed Tom's elbow, then dragged him down the hall. I nodded to the principal, who nodded back, and went after them.

Lee's P.O.V

“But that's pretty scary right? I mean, having a whole bunch of boys come beat you up for being gay,” I frowned at my boyfriend.

“Yeah, which is why from now on when we're in public I'm not leaving your sight,” he said back to me, tightening his arms around me. I bit my lower lip and looked away across the school yard.

“It makes me sick,” Mike hissed, throwing a pile of yanked out grass at the ground and sneering.

“Me too, we should beat them up,” Jamie agreed, throwing her fist in the air triumphantly.

“Shush, we can't do that,” Ellie hushed her girlfriend.

“Why not? There's more of us than them,” Jamie frowned thoughtfully.

“They don't have any girls,” Mike pointed out angrily.

“So? You think me and Ellie can't handle ourselves in a fight? Bring it white boy!” Jamie play argued, but Mike just wasn't in the mood for it and stalked off. Tom rolled his eyes.

“He's been so bitterly cold lately, it's like I hardly know him,” he sighed. “I'm not sure what to do anymore.” I bit my bottom lip. Time for Soul to come to the rescue.

“He's just miffed, Mike's not one to let something go easily. Don't worry about it, he'll come around,” I told Tom, getting up and going after Mike.

I found him in the guys toilets about top punch a huge hole in the mirror.

“Whoa there,” I said as I rushed over to him and grabbed his arm.

“What do you want Soul?” he hissed, yanking his arm out of my grip and stomping over to the other side of the bathroom, leaning against the wall with his hands in his pockets.

“Will you cool it already? Yeah, you're pissed, we get it. Now let it go, you're pushing Tom away and if you don't stop now you'll loose him,” I hissed. Mike really needed a smack in the face, but I wasn't a violent person so I was just going to have to scold him. My words hit Mike one by one and when I finished he looked up and me, his expression blank.

“I'm loosing him?” he breathed, frowning of into space.

“Yes,” I replied. So maybe I was being a little extravagant, he wouldn't know the difference. Mike gulped and pushed away from the wall, walking slowly towards me.

“Then maybe that's for the best...” he whispered. What? No, that was wrong!

“What are you talking about? Look how mad you got at him getting hurt, do you really think you could walk away from him? Hurt him like that?” I growled. Was he not listening to anything I was saying?

“Soul, it's because of me he got hurt,” Mike mumbled, looking up and looking into my eyes with tears in his, but none overflowed. I could understand that. If anything happened to Abbey, I'd bl;ame myself for not being there to protect her.

“But Tom was gay before you came along Mike,” I reminded him.

“Maybe, but he wasn't out of the closest, so no one touched him,” Mike added. I groaned. He was right, again. But that didn't justify anything.

“Don't Soul, I've made up my mind. Tom needs someone who can be perfect for him. Not someone messed up like me,” Mike sighed and walked out of the bathroom. The door slammed shut behind me and made me jump.

What have I done?

Abbey's P.O.V

“What have you done Soul Dayton?” I screamed at him as he sat on his bed, his legs tucked up into his chest.

“Hey this is Mike's fault for being such a dick!” he shouted back at me. I was so mad I could punch him, but I didn't. Instead I sighed and sat on Soul's bed beside him.

“Now the group is separated again...” Soul whispered guilty. I grabbed his hand and held it. It was true. Mike had come out of that bathroom and broke up with Tom. I took Tom's side, so did Lee and Jamie. Ellie took Mike's, and Josh followed Lee. I wasn't sure who's side Soul was on. I think he just didn't want to be involved.

“Now Ellie and Jamie are fighting too,” I winced. It was all turning into such a big mess.

“I better go check round Tom's. I saw the pain in his eyes when Mike...” Soul sighed getting up and turning around to look at me.

“I'll come,” I said, getting up too.

“No, it's better if I just go by myself. I created this mess, I need to fix it,” he advised me. I nodded slowly, it was probably for the best.

“Wait for me here?” he asked me hopefully. Lee and Josh were in the other room so I wouldn't be alone.

“Okay, be back soon,” I smiled sadly and kissed him on the cheek.

“Wish me luck,” he said and walked out, grabbing his jacket off the hook as he did so.

Tom's P.O.V

I know lovesick is when you feel so good you can't act right. So what is it when you feel so bad you can't act right?

Stupid Mike, making me fall for his charms and his wit and his extreme good looks. Stupid Mike for breaking my heart. Well two can play at that game.

I looked across the park at the group of boys who'd beaten me up before playing football without their shirts on. Butterflies moved in my stomach when I thought about what I was going to do. I gulped and wiped my sweaty hands on my jeans.

I began to walk forward and the group of boys split, waving to each other and and grabbing their shirts off the ground. There were just two in the middle of the oval, two was enough. I took in a deep breath and walked up to them.

“You look pretty hot without a shirt on,” I said slyly to the tallest buffest looking guy.

Soul's P.O.V

I knocked on Tom's house's front door and waited. A few seconds later it opened and an older woman version of Tom looked down at me.

“Oh hello Soul, Tom's not here right now,” Tom's mother said sweetly but sadly to me. I frowned.

“Do you know where I could find him?” I asked, raising my eyebrows slightly in thought.

“Ah, I think he said he was going to play football with some guys from school at the park around the corner,” his mother advised me.

“Thanks,” I said and jogged off. Tom didn't have any friends that played football apart from Mike, Josh and I. And I doubted it was Mike, Josh was at my house and well, I was here. Maybe I was being rash, but I had a bad feeling about this. I pulled out my phone and dialled the first person I knew could help.

Mike...

“Hello?” Mike rasped into the phone, it was clear he'd been crying.

“Mike, it's Soul. Tom's at the park. You need to get here now,” I huffed into the phone as I ran. My instruction weren't clear, but I knew Mike could tell by the urgency in my voice it was serious.

“I'm on my way,” he said strongly and hung up.

Tom's P.O.V

“What did you say fag?” the other guy hissed at me, a disgusted look on his face. The guy who had pinned me to the locker looked down at me and frowned.

“Hey Steve, piss off will you. I can handle this little punk on my own,” the tall guy said to the rude guy beside him. No, that was bad. Only one guy wouldn't do enough damage. Steve looked at the bigger guy with confusion, but one scowl from his friend sent him packing. The tall guy, who's name I didn't know or couldn't remember, looked back at me.

“You think I'm good looking huh?” he breathed at me. I wasn't exactly sure what angle he was trying.

“Ah... sure,” I said, hoping he'd get angry. I couldn't fight him and win my dignity back if he wasn't in a fighting mood. I needed to show Mike I could take care of myself, that I didn't need him to protect me, and he didn't need to feel bad about me getting hurt.

But the guy's face didn't turn to anger, instead he smiled.

“I feel the same,” he said and leant down and kissed me.

Mike's P.O.V

I met with Soul at the end of Tom's street.

“Where?” I puffed at him. He pointed down the road to a big oval and I nodded. Then we set off as fast as we could.

We reached the oval and I paused as I saw Tom talking to the gang leader, who was shirtless. It was clear Tom was egging him on, and even if I ran now I'd be too far away to stop the first punch.

“I'm so stupid,” I hissed. I took a step forward but then stopped and nearly fell over. The gang leader grabbed Tom and kissed him. I knew I should have felt shock at what I was seeing. I should have felt angry at the guy for kissing Tom. But all I felt was... jealousy. It coursed through my veins like a poison and built up in the back of my head. And that's what drove me forward to the two.
