Soul's P.O.V

I'd always guessed Lee was gay. But that was only because I was experiencing the same signs. To tell you the truth, I felt guilty when Josh had stated I was straight... I wasn't sure what I was.

Was I gay?

Was I straight?

Was I bisexual?

The last one was probably the most accurate. I mean I accepted my brother and best friend both liked men really easily. When Josh pointed out an actor in a movie we were watching, swooning over how hot he was, well I had to kind of agree. I won't lie and say I hadn't thought about doing stuff with guys before.

I had.

And my eyes often wondered whenever I was playing sport or in the locker room at school.

Ugh, I don't know. I couldn't think about it anyway.

I let Josh and Lee talk together most of the night, it seemed my plan was working. I just hung around the back, waiting and watching as Lee escaped his shell and became a beautiful butterfly.

Right now I was sifting through Josh’s DVDs to find a good one. Josh's parents had gone out for the night to visit Josh's aunt and uncle.

Josh and Lee were in Josh’s room looking over all the posters Josh had on his walls. Yes most were guys. So I’d made a note to stay out of that. I could hear them coming down the hall now laughing. I looked up as they entered and my jaw dropped. Lee was standing there looking very unbalanced in his black jeans, white T and bright red high heels. Josh was beside him looking quite comfortable in brown shorts, a navy jumper and white stilettos.

“I can’t believe you haven’t worn heels before, and you call yourself gay,” Josh mocked and then burst out laughing.

“Well, I kind of didn’t know I was gay for a while and then I didn’t really have the urge to anyway,” Lee explained. Lee wasn’t obviously gay. Josh was obviously bi. Josh pranced around the room in his stilettos and waved his arms around while Lee watched.

“Oh put it away,” I groaned to Josh.

“Suit yourself,” Josh said rather campy with his hands on his hips and bending forward a little. Josh went off to his room in a huff, flicking his invisible long hair back, while Lee sat on the cough and took off his high heels.

“Sorry,” lee said to my back. I turned and looked at him.

“Huh?” I asked.

“I didn’t mean to be gay, I really tried hard not to be, but I couldn’t help it. I just don’t like girls like that,” Lee blurted, tears coming to his eyes. I stood and sat beside him.

“Lee, I’m seriously cool with you being gay. I don’t care at all. I’m glad you’ve finally come clean with it. You were making yourself miserable hiding it,” I reassured him. Lee looked up at me with my own big blue eyes.

“Then why have you been avoiding me all night?” Lee sobbed. I put my arm around his shoulders.

“I haven’t been avoiding you. I’ve been giving you and Josh a chance to get to know each other and talk about guys,” I explained. Lee sighed in relief.

“Okay, but I like hanging with you. I want us all to hang together. I don’t want you to feel awkward around me now,” Lee said, looking at his hands.

“I don’t feel awkward around you. I feel awkward around Josh,” I laughed just as Josh walked in shirtless and in a black leather mini skirt. “You look bloody ridiculous,” I laughed at him so hard I nearly cried. Josh turned to the side and stuck his butt out.

“Does my butt look big in this?” he asked seriously.

“Yes and so does your face,” I cackled. Josh flipped me off and sat on the other couch.

“Good thing my parents aren’t here,” Josh mused and picked up the remote.

“And what does Ellie think of all this?” I grinned.

“Actually I’m thinking of breaking up with her and becoming full time gay. Women are too complex for me,” Josh said.

“Didn’t think it would last,” I replied.

“Let’s go play footy outside,” Josh said, leaping off the couch.

“You’re going to play in that?” I snorted, standing up too. Lee followed us outside and I wondered what excuse he was going to make not to play. Lee didn’t do sports, his lanky body told everyone that.

We went out into the backyard and Josh got his football off the table and kicked it to me. I caught it and kicked it back. Then Josh turned to kick it to Lee. I waited for Lee to give his excuse but nothing came. The football was kicked and Lee moved back, catching it with both hands like he’d seen me do a million times. What? Lee was going to play football? Who was he trying to kid?

"Nice catch mate," Josh called to Lee. Lee turned and kicked the football to me and I caught it.

"You're a natural," I called to my brother who beamed at me.

"Watched the best," he replied and I felt my face flush.

"What about me huh?" Josh laughed in his strong English accent.

"You're second best," I teased him.

"You're good too," Lee said.

"Thanks guys," Josh said sarcastically and with a lisp. We tossed the ball around for about an hour and then went back inside for drinks and snacks.

Lee was sweating and obviously needed a shower but Josh and I were much fitter and were just hot and tired.

“Feel free to use the shower Lee, I can get you something to wear,” Josh said through gulps from his second glass of water.

“Thanks,” Lee said, puffed. Josh then led Lee off to the bathroom and stuff. I went into the lounge room and began going through the movies again. Josh came out moments later and stood beside me.

“Help me bring the mattresses out,” he said.

“Alright,” I replied and stood up to follow him. We went into Josh's parents room and took off their bedding except the bottom sheet. We carried it out into the lounge and rested it against one of the lounge room walls.

“Help me move the couches out the way,” Josh said, scratching the side of his nose with his two first fingers. Josh's parents bed smelt like Janice's perfume and Harold's deodorant which was a good thing considering what they might have gotten up to... never mind. We moved the couches into the hallway and then laid the mattress in front of the TV.

“Will that be enough?” Josh asked, smirking at me.

“Definitely not,” I said and turned to go get Josh's mattress. The hallway was blocked by the couches. I sighed.

“Lighten up Soul, you can trust me not to do anything... to you anyway,” Josh chuckled darkly. I turned and glared at him.

“If you touch a single hair...” I started to snarl.

“Relax. You know I wont,” Josh laughed, “Oh and just jump across them.” I jumped up onto one of the couches and walked across them, and then jumped off the end.

I ripped all of Josh's bedding off except the bottom sheet and carried it out into the hallway. Josh was pressed against the bathroom door listening in.

“What...?” I started but Josh shushed me. I went to the bathroom door and listened. Lee was singing in the shower. Lee was such a good singer, but he only sang in front of his friends and family or in the shower.

“He's quite good,” I nodded.

“He's amazing,” Josh awed.

I rolled my eyes at him and continued down the hallway. It was difficult carrying the mattress over the couches but I managed and soon I stood back and looked at the wonderful job I'd done. Josh jumped over the couches and landed on the queen size mattress and made it slide into the wall. He looked back at me and grinned.

“Man you have to try that,” he said and rolled off the mattress onto the floor. I heard the shower stop as I hopped up onto the couch in the doorway. I leaped into the air and landed on my stomach on the queen mattress. It was so much fun. I rolled over and looked at Josh.

“Dude,” I said.

“Dude,” Josh mused.

“Dude?” Lee asked, now standing in a towel looking at the couches in the hallway and the mattress on the lounge room floor.

“Dude!” Josh and I laughed.

“Right,” Lee smiled and went into Josh's room where he could get changed. I looked up at the clock above the TV; 12 o'clock.

“What movie?” Josh asked me as he went into the kitchen.

“'Hot Tub Time Machine',” I said after him.

“Cool. Popcorn?” Josh had disappeared into the kitchen now so I couldn't see him.

“Lee doesn't eat popcorn,” I said to him.

“Crisps?” Josh asked. Thanks to knowing Josh for so long I knew in English talk crisps = chips.

“Sure, what flavour?”

“BBQ ribs, Salt + Vinegar, or Original?”

“I like Salt + Vinegar please,” Lee said failing to balance over the couches. Suddenly a bag of Salt + Vinegar chips flew into the room from the kitchen seemingly of its own accord. I caught it and tossed it to Lee, who caught it also.

“Soul?” Josh asked.

“BBQ ribs,” I replied. A bag of BBQ rib flavoured chips flew into the room like the last. I caught this one too and then Josh walked in with a bag of Original. We left our bags on the shelf by the TV and got blankets and pillows and piled them onto the beds and then jumped on them.

I put on the DVD and we opened our chips and ate them noisily.
