Chapter 9
So naive but caring
Xavier's pov
The other night at Aiden's house, I got a text from my girlfriend, Sophie, she was coming back after her vacation in Europe. I haven't seen her in over a month, so I was pretty excited. Her text said "Hey, I'm back, do you want to catch up before school starts? xoxo Soph" I quickly texted her back "Sophie!, I'm glad you're back, can't wait to see you, I'll call you tomorrow" We told each other good night and I leaned back smiling. We were still watching the movie, everyone was practically falling asleep though. The girls were actually the only ones watching at this point.
Aiden had fallen asleep, I ran my fingers lightly through his hair, it felt sort of right. I shook away that thought as soon as I thought it. I picked him up and gave Sienna this look telling her I'd take him to his room. She nodded, too into the movie, to give me a worded response. Zac trailed behind me, grabbing a drink, sipping it as he lazily walked up the stairs. I reached the door and leaned on it for a second.
"He's really out of it, isn't he" Zac told me.
"Yeah", he actually looked quite cute and innocent. I opened the door and laid him on the bed. Zac collapsed onto the couch off to the side, leaving us alone. I lightly brushed my fingertips across his cheek, when I saw him smile at my touch, I slowly moved my hand away. Stripping down to my underwear, I contemplated if I should take off his clothes too. After some thought I moved towards him, I hesitated at the hem of his shirt, quickly pulling it off him and flinging it across the room.
My eyes landed on his revealed chest, I had a need to touch him, but I restrained myself, I hovered over him, my hands at his waistband. If he woke up at this moment, there would be a lot of explaining to do, but luckily he stayed fast asleep. I slowly tugged his pants down and I accidently pulled down some of his underwear. I blushed, looking away and pulling it back up. I finished taking off his pants and I couldn't help but stare at what I was seeing.
I looked away, awkwardness seeping into the situation. What am I even doing? Getting him comfortable that's all...I moved my gaze elsewhere from his crotch, throwing the cover over his body. I snuggled in beside him and hugged him to me. He was so very warm, I'm glad we became friends.
~
I could feel the sun's rays settling in, I groaned as I rolled out of bed. I walked over to the couch and tapped Zac, waking him up in the process. He blinked a few times before he noticed where he was. I looked back over my shoulder at Aiden, he was still sleeping. He stood up and we both descended the stairs towards the kitchen, it was already quite late.
"Hey Xavier, I'm going to go home, ok?" he called out to me.
"Wait for me, I just have to call Sophie first" I answered him. He nodded, a smile playing out on his face and leaned against the front door. I noticed that the girls had already left, probably woke up earlier than us. I picked up a note, it was for us, "We went shopping for school tomorrow, will be back before dinner" So that's why the house is so quiet.
I moved out of the way so Zac couldn't hear and dialled Sophie's number. After a few rings, she picked up.
"Hey Soph, do you want to meet up in about an hour"
"Hi, yeah sure, meet you at crystal colours café?"
"Sure, I missed you"
"I missed you too, can't wait to see you"
She hung up before I could say anything else. Shrugging I walked towards the front door as Aiden came down the stairs. My eyes strayed from his eyes, down his bare chest and almost naked body. He gave me a small smile and approached me. He pulled me into a quick hug and I hugged him back.
"Hey Aiden, I have to go, meeting up with someone"
"Ok sure, I'll see you at school" He gave me a big grin and I smiled back. I opened the door and waved goodbye before stepping outside. It was already quite warm, I stuck my earphones in my ears and walked at a quick pace to the café. This café is the one we met at, near the end of last year. We didn't date for long before she had to leave to go on holiday, but I really liked her and she liked me. We kept in touch, all through the holidays, through emails and random calls every once in a while.
I didn't have to walk far, as I reached the entrance of the café. I stepped inside and instantly spotted her at the counter. I crept up behind her and wrapped my arms around her waist. I heard her dissolve into giggles and I chuckled, turning her around to face me. She leaned in for a kiss and I met her halfway. It quickly turned into an intense kiss, but we were interrupted as our orders were ready.
She blushed and I smiled, picking up our order and choosing a table to sit at. I held onto her hand as we sipped our drinks.
"Hey, how have you been" she asked me, giving me a beautiful smile.
"It's been quite great really, I went to this fantastic new years party" as I told her that, my mind flashed back to Aiden and me kissing him. I remembered the game and him running out in tears. I shook myself out of thoughts of him and turned to focus back on my girlfriend. "I went to the beach with my new friend, Aiden, you would like him and the other day my friends and I all went to the city too"
"Wow, now I wished I stay here, sounds like you had lots of fun" She gave me a playful grin.
I smiled, we got up and left the café. We spent the rest of the day together, going to the park, movies and the shopping centre. We had lots of fun together, but I couldn't help but compare her to Aiden...
I walked her back to her house and I kissed her goodbye, before going home and falling asleep straight away...today was tiring to say the least.
~
It was the first day of school, usually I would be late to school, but since I knew I'd see Sophie there I wasn't. I quickly got ready for school, putting on tight black jeans, a green shirt and a jacket. I messed my hair up to its usual look and I said goodbye to my parents before leaving. I draped my bag across my back and got to school with a few minutes to spare. I didn't get to see her in the morning but I met up with Sienna and Zac in our first class.
"So, Sophie is back" Sienna said "I haven't seen her yet"
"Yeah she is back and I haven't seen her today"
"Are you two still together?"
"Yup, of course" I said with a smile appearing on my face.
"Right" she concluded and turned away. Well, that was weird. I'm going to have to talk to her later about it. I turned away from her and tried to focus on what the teacher was saying. But I couldn't stop my mind from wandering to what the hidden meaning was behind Sienna's words. When the bell rang, I jumped a little, "Zac, walk me to my next class?"
His eyes darted away from my gaze, leaving me with a puzzled expression. "Sure, come on" he said, which was unusually normal and not happy. I shrugged it off as nothing and walked beside him to my next class.
"What's happening between you and Aiden?" he asked suddenly.
I turned to him with a surprised look, "Nothing is happening, we're just friends, good friends" I told him honestly.
"Right" he said in a disbelieving tone, I gave him a confused look, "Well, this is not going to end well" he said just above a whisper, obviously not intending for me to hear him.
I shot him a questioning look, but he had already walked away, what did he mean by that. Everyone was acting really strange today, It's giving me a bad feeling. Why did he even ask that, we are just friends.
The day rushed past, soon after it was lunch. I found Sophie and I gave her cheerful smile as I walked up to her. I saw her mouth bye to her two friends before coming closer to me and hugging me.
"Hey, nice to see you" I told her, still smiling brightly. She returned the smile then we were kissing. I put my hands on her hips as I fell into the magic of a kiss. We kissed for a bit before I pulled away, smiling at her, "You're cute, you know that"
"Aww, thanks babe" she replied and tightened her hold on me. Streams of students were rushing out of the school building, I could hear the noise of the students heighten. I could feel someone staring at me, I looked up and locked eyes with Aiden. He was frozen and I could see the heartbreaking expression that he had plastered all over his face, but the question was why? Just as I caught his eyes he turned away, I saw him clench his fists then walk away and a few seconds later he broke out into to a fast run.
A few minutes later, my group of friends rushed past me all shooting me angry looks. Even my two best friends, I felt excluded, what was happening that I didn't know about. I was taken aback by how mad they looked and all their anger was directed at me. I didn't even do anything, so why were they like that for no reason.
"Come on, Sophie, let's go inside" I took her into an empty classroom and we kissed passionately, until the bell was about to go.
"Wow that was intense" she said, I laughed, all my worries forgotten for the time being. I clutched onto her hand and we sneaked out of the room, undetected. As we rounded the corner I heard loud footsteps and then someone smashed into me, hard. I groaned stumbling back a bit, recovering myself, my eyes landed on...Aiden. He was sprawled out on the floor, he lifted his head groaning and his eyes met mine then moved over to Sophie's then our hands.
His eyes were watering and I started worrying if he was hurt, I opened my mouth to ask him exactly that. But Sophie stepped in offering him her hand as she asked, "Are you alright, do you need help" He just got up off the ground and brushed past me, giving me a shaky looking smile. He was crying and it wasn't because of the fall...
I noticed he was trying to stop the tears running down his face, by brushing it away but to no avail. I was tempted to run after him and give him a hug and brush his tears away gently. But I ignored that feeling and walked Sophie to her locker. I gave her a quick peck and walked to class forgetting my books, but I didn't care. I couldn't stop thinking about Aiden and the fact that he was crying. I spent the last two classes of the class thinking hard about him.
As I was walking home, I thought I should call Sienna, since she was his sister after all. I dialled her number and waited for her to answer.
"What?" I heard her yell impatiently.
"I-I...Aiden was crying today" I admitted, feeling guilt course through me as if I did something.
"I know, I saw him" she monotonously, "Don't worry about it, I'll handle it" and she hung up. I gapped at that notion, what is going on?
I went up to my room and sat down at my desk. I needed some answers, I took out my phone and my finger hovered over my friends numbers. I should text them.
I messaged Zac, "Dude, can you tell me what is going on?" I didn't get a reply after several minutes, that's weird he usually answers really quickly. Then my eyes landed on Aiden's contacts picture. I clicked on it, before I could back out of it. I thought a bit about what I should write. I kept typing then deleting the text. I settled on "Hey Aiden, why were you crying today? Do you want me to come over, I could try and help" I quickly clicked send before I could change my mind.
I waited hours for a reply but I got none. I was a bit sad over that, I busied myself trying to get my mind off it. I got some food and stayed in my room, I contemplated going to his house, but it would be awkward for me to go over there at this stage, maybe tomorrow I will.
As I was getting ready for bed, an early night for once, I head a ding. I scrambled over the mess in my room to my phone, I laid on my bed as I opened the text, reading it once and replying with "Ok Aiden, I'll give you a hug when I see you tomorrow" with no hesitation whatsoever I pressed send. His text was strange, did he really get a bad grade in school, he must be lying, we just started school today.
I got a text back, I opened it and all it said was "Don't" I frowned at that. He doesn't want a hug or he doesn't want to see me tomorrow...I texted him back asking him that but got no reply to it. I tried calling him once but his phone was off. My frown deepened, I finished getting ready for bed and picked up my phone again.
No new messages from Aiden
But I got a reply from Zac, saying that there is nothing I need to worry about at the moment and that he would tell me about it later. I replied with an ok and a goodnight.
I glanced at my phone background it was of Sophie and me kissing, I had, had this photo as my background for a while now. I went through my photo gallery and one particular photo caught my eye, the one that Amelia took of Aiden and I on the Ferris wheel ride, I smiled at that memory and saved it as my background. I took one last look at it before falling asleep, dreaming about him, especially about that time when we kissed.
