Chapter 2:
Parker's POV
I am so nervous for tomorrow. I can't even think straight and I have been very jumpy the past week. I also think that I've had a fever for the past two days.
I'm definitely not looking forward to my first shift because from what my dad says, for lack of a better word, it hurts like a bitch. Now I'm not one of those people who like to be in pain so I am freaking out.
I think Luke is starting to notice because I haven't got much sleep so I have snapping at him. I hate yelling at him but I just can't help it.
I mean even when he is whispering something to me it feels like he is fucking yelling. My dad says that after the first change that my senses will go back to normal.
My senses should only be enhanced when in wolf form or if my wolf is trying to fight for control.
I just hope he's right because I don't know how much more of this I can take.

Luke's POV
I think Parker has the flu or something. I bumped him while walking down the stairs the other day and his skin was on fire.
When I talked to him about it, saying that it wasn't normal and he should go to a hospital, he said it was no big deal. That it'll pass.
He had said that it was normal for someone like him. Then when I asked him what he meant by that he cursed under his breath, said he didn't mean anything by it, and walked away.
There is something he is hiding from me. He has been my best friend for as long as I can remember and he should be able to tell me anything, right?
I mean I even live with him now so I think that he would be able to trust me.
But then again if he wanted me to know then he would have told me from the start rather than keep it a secret.
It makes me feel like I really do have no one.
Even though he said that I have him and his parents to count on. In order for me to trust people, they have to trust me back.
Trust, for me, is not a one sided deal. But I only just want to help him. Just like he helped me.
Getting up off the couch I turned the T.V. off and made my way towards the stairs. I hope he's home.
I don't really know how long I was sitting on that couch for, just thinking. Pulling my phone out of my pocket I saw that the time was 3:19 p.m.
Good so I still have time for a long conversation. His birthday is tomorrow and I really don't want him mad at me.
I really hope he likes the gift that I got him. It would make me feel like less of a failure of a friend.
Walking up the stairs I make the first left and walk down the long hallway towards his room. It is oddly quiet.
Normally I would be able to here Mayday Parade playing or even him playing his guitar but I hear nothing. I noticed my walking sped up ever so slightly.
Once at his door, I knocked. "Parker? Are you in there?" I asked a little louder than necessary. I heard some shuffling and then seconds later the door swung open.
I was greeted by Parker who was wearing nothing but his boxers. His short brown hair was in disarray.
His eyes were hooded and he stared at me for a second, letting his eyes focus, then smiling lazily at me. "Hi.'' He said yawning.
I laughed lightly. "Did I, uh, did I wake you? I'm sorry I thought...ya know since it's three I thought that you would be awake and-never mind I'll comeback later." I turned to leave but was stopped by a hand that grabbed my wrist.
I turned around and stared at my wrist. A dull tingling was making it's way up my arm from underneath his hand.
It took him all of two seconds to snatch his hand back and put it at his side. That was weird. I looked up at him after safely placing my arm back by my side.
"Okay...that was weird. Anyway I was just gonna ask how you were feeling but I'll just let you get back to sleep." I turned to leave again and this time, he didn't stop me.

The Next Day...
Parker's POV
Okay I really need calm down. It's only 11:00 a.m. My dad's first shift wasn't until late at night. But then again he said that every wolf's is different.
Oh my god I can't do this. This is too nerve racking. It's a good thing I sent Luke to go get cake mix as some stupid excuse to get him out of the house.
I don't even like cake.
I have been doing that all morning, but I am quickly running out of excuses. I don't know what else to say to him.
I''l just have to grin and bear it until it happens. And when it does I will run out of the room as fast as I can. I can't let Luke see that.
Hell, I don't even wanna see it. I don't even wanna live through it. I really am not looking forward to finding my mate.
Is it hot in here? I am sweating like mad. I remove my shirt and am just sitting in my tan shorts on the couch.
The T.v. acting as background noise for my jumbled thoughts. I turn my head to the side when I hear my car door shut.
Luke must be back. Shit, I stood up and walked to the front door. It opened just before I could lock it and revealed Luke standing there looking very happy.
"Here is your cake mix. Happy Birthday!" He was talking at a normal level but it sounded like he was screaming it right in my ear.
It took all I had in me not to shove my hands over my ears. I gently took the cake mix from him, our hands colliding making me drop the box. A huge shock traveled through my body and it looked like it went through him.
"What the fuck was that?" I looked up at Luke and saw his confused face.
"I-uh- I gotta...go talk to my dad." I ran straight to my dad's office.
I threw open the door and slammed it shut behind me making my dad glance up from his work. "What do you need son?"
I walked over to him and grabbed his wrist. Nothing. What the hell? "Parker, what on earth are you doing?" I took my hand back.
"Dad, I just touched Luke on accident when he handed me something and it like electrocuted both of us. I know he felt it too because he had mentioned it. I...I can't...what..." I couldn't even form a coherent thought let alone a full sentence.
I was breathing heavily and mt skin was on fire. I looked back up at my dad.
"Your having your first shift, Parker. It'll be over before you know it. Actually you might pass out, but that's normal. You will wake up tomorrow, in your human form but you will now be able to shift whenever you want and it will be physically painless."
He explained calmly. I felt before I heard my bones popping and moving into different positions. I felt hair growing all over my body.
"Dad, I-I can't..." I looked at my father to see him looking down at me with a look that said there was nothing he could do.
"Let go son. I will be here when you wake up. So will your mother. We will explain everything to Luke." He stated in just a whisper.
I didn't want Luke to know but I was in too much pain to argue with him, and I let the sweet relief of falling into unconsciousness take over.

I opened my eyes slowly. It was bright at first by my eyes grew used to it. Sitting up slowly, I realized I was in my room and that I felt back to normal.
There was no more irritating itch. No more ridiculous fever. I'm not even sweating and I can hear as a normal human would.
I groaned. Definitely should of stayed laying down. Realizing I was alone, I stood even slower than when I sat up and made my way down the stairs.
What is that smell? It's absolutely fantastic. Is my mom cooking something? It couldn't be food though, because it didn't smell like anything I've ever eaten.
Walking into the kitchen, I saw my dad sitting at the table and my mom was indeed cooking something but that isn't what I was smelling.
"Hey son, how are you feeling?" My dad asked glancing up from his food.
I looked at him and mom, smiling slightly.
"I'm great, um what is that smell? Why don't I know what it is? And why is it everywhere in this house?" I walked around sniffing the air. I looked back at my dad awaiting his answer.
"Well son, I believe that would be your mate." He said smiling widely. I looked at him and my mom with wide eyes.
"But why is it all over the house?" I started to panic. My mate was here? Is here? Where are they?
"Parker, calm down. Luke will be back soon. He offered to go get you some pepsi and food from subway."
"Did you tell him about us being werewolves?" I asked. He shook his head. "No. Your mother and I thought it would be best for you to tell him yourself."
My dad really pisses me off sometimes with the way that he is always calm. Like no matter what. Always. I really didn't want to have to tell Luke.
My head snapped up at the sound of the door. "Is Parker up yet?" Luke. He's back. Fan-fucking-tastic.
I looked back at my dad and sat down next to him at the table. I put my head down on the table in my arms.
I heard Luke enter the room and not even two seconds later the smell increased ten-fold. My head snapped up to see Luke staring at me.
"Parker? Are you okay? How are you feeling?" The concern in his voice being very noticeable.
'Mate!' A voice in my head screamed in my head. Luke? No that can't be right. He's a guy.
Although two guys as mates is not unheard of, it's still pretty uncommon. Luke is my mate? I don't know why but this statement made me undeniably happy.
I guess I was staring at him for a little longer than necessary. "Parker? Are you alright? Mr. Kane is he okay?" Luke turned to my dad.
I shook my head, reminding myself that he didn't know. I stood up abruptly. "I'm going for a run." I hoped my parents got the actual meaning behind that statement.
I ran out of the kitchen and into my backyard going into the woods behind my house, shedding my clothes and shifting.
My dad was right, it was practically painless. I can't believe Luke is my mate. How would we produce and heir who would take over the pack once we died?
It doesn't matter anyway. He can live a normal life. Luke doesn't know about werewolves. He doesn't know he's my mate.
He'll never know.
