Chapter 21
His heart raced as he stared down into the face of mate. No words could describe how he felt. No feelings grew, no tears came. Only a vase hollowness. The sun's rays had hid behind the darkness of the day. The moon was now raining above. Time was standing still as though it moved for the rest of the world.
The darkening around his eyes stood out against the cold pale mabled skin. Death was upon him. Called out his name to return. The pack doctor worked as hard as he could to keep death away from Zero. However death was stronger. Now, it was completely up to Zero's will to live. He had to fight to come back.
Laying his hand on the chest that barely rose. Langdon couldn't believe this was happening. Savage had gone to a new low. Placing wolves in trees with Wolf's Bane arrows. Does that man have no end? No honor? What wolf fights with arrows? A man who holds no soul, that's who.
Listening to the Beta's coming in. He shifted his body to protect his mate. His instincts were up and running on high. No one was going to touch his mate without his say so. Josh sat down in a chair. His shoulder was still bandaged up. The claw markings were starting to fade more. Aaron came around to the side of the bed. Placed a plate of food on the table beside the bed. Then took a seat in the chair off to the side. Courtney was right with him. Just like Cherry was with Josh. Their Alpha was hurt. Had fought to protect them. All they could do was wait, like he was.
Like clockwork, Vera came in with Amber to see how he was doing. Nothing had changed. Zero laid there as if he was a shell waiting for death to finish him off. Amber came and sat beside him. She laid her head down on Langdon's lap. In his mind he knew that this was Zero's sister. She needed the comfort. In his body, he wanted to fling her off for coming close to his mate. In his heart, he didn't have the strength. He needed her there as much as she needed to be there.
Taking a deep breath, Vera reminded him he needed to eat. When Zero woke up and finds out that he hasn't been eating. There will be hell to pay. His beast whined. Zero will be mad at him for not taking care of himself. Shifting his position on the bed. Amber slid between his legs and laid back down. He used her shoulder to balance the plate before he began eating.
Over hearing a conversation between his brother and the Alpha. Langdon frowned even more. Dalson had ran into some trouble. He will be late arriving. Soon as he takes care of the situation he's in, he'll be here. Once they entered, Jalin looked right at him knowing they all had over heard the conversation. He didn't repeat himself. Just added that Dalson promises to be here when he can.
The pack doctor came in about thirty minutes later. Giving off a warning growl, the pack doctor paused. This wasn't expected to come out of him. Alpha Blackwood ordered him to go on. All Langdon was doing was protecting his mate. He should be use to this by now. Grumbling that mates sometime causes more trouble than needed. Langdon exited a growl with a deep sigh. The pack doctor was pushing his limits. This silence the doctor really quickly.
Each wolf got ready for bed. As Cherry helped Josh take his shirt off. They found Langdon standing over him taking the pain away. Josh nodded his head in a thank you manner. Langdon still had the urge to help the pack.
Once everyone was snuggled down for the night. Vera went around with blankets in her hands. Covering each wolf up. She felt a pride slipping through her sadness. Not one of the teens would leave. Right before bed, Max and Jen came to stay. They all felt the relief in Langdon upon seeing Max. They knew that Max had become Langdon's bestfriend. Having his bestfriend there made it a little bit more tolerable.
Zero's body was barely showing from under the bodies laying around and on him. Langdon had his head rested on Zero's shoulder while Amber was still snuggled down in between his legs. Vera threw the blankets over the girls then Langdon and Amber. Before the light was switched off, Langdon laced his fingers with Zero's. He sent vibes to his mate, wishing he would return to him.
Another day had passed when Bailey came in with clean clothes for her son. Along with all the homework he was missing in school. The pack doctor had written a excuse for Zero, Langdon, Josh and Aaron. A car accident. Bailey wished it was a car accident. Kissing the top of his head, Langdon looked up.
"Sweetie, any change?"
"His complexion is getting better. He moaned last night. The pack doctor said he was in pain because of the Wolf's Bane."
"It's poison. The Wolf's Bane burn's through their bodies like acid. Eats away all the good things until shutting everything down. I read werewolves could handle some amounts. Large doses hit hard and quick." Bailey rubbed his back. "He would be dead if there was a large amount of Wolf's Bane. This means he's fighting the poison. He'll wake up."
"Could you have said it nicer?" Langdon groaned.
"I tried. But I only knew one way to say it. I apologize sweetie. I thought the faster I said it the quicker I could get it out." Bailey struggled as she tried to explain.
"I know mom." Langdon did feel better after hearing about the amount of Wolf's Bane.
Homework was really getting him down. The more he tried to focus the more his mind wondered. Setting the books asided. He went back to staring at Zero. Only if he could give some type of movement.
"Zero, I know you can hear me. Now wake your ass up. I can't handle this. You are suppose to be here to help me work through something like this. Now get up!" Zero still laid in his peaceful slumber.
By night fall everyone was back inside the room. Langdon couldn't have been more grateful. He started talking about the homework. Cherry knew what he was referring to. She helped him out until it was all him. Rolling his eyes, at the moment he could care less. It was something to keep his mind moving. Amber climbed between his legs and laid down. Blowing out a deep breath, Langdon began to sing.
He needed the distraction. Country Song by Seether rang into the air. It was the first song that popped into his head. By the end of the song, he was the only one awake. Sighing, he had to remind himself that he places wolves to sleep when he sings.
"Wake up sleepy head."
Swatting at whoever was touching his face.
"That's no way to treating me."
Two lips fell upon his cheek. His eyes shot open. Staring down at him was the blue's he fell in love with.
"Zero?" He breathed out.
"It's me." Zero groaned as he laid back down. "Shiiiiiii" Rubbing his head, "I feel like I got hit by a train."
"Three arrows soaked in Wolf's Bane." Langdon sat up gently. Amber stirred but didn't wake. Wrapping his arms around Zero, he kissed his cheek. "I was so scared."
"I'm sorry but I still have no idea what's going on."
"I need to get your dad." Slipping out from under Amber, he bolted through the pack house and towards the end of the hall.
Ivan held out his hand. "Slow down. What's wrong?"
"Zero's awake."
"I'll get the Alpha you get the pack doctor."
Langdon turned around and ran to the other end of the house. Where he was shown where the pack doctor was. Knocking on the door, he slipped inside and over to the bed. Shaking the doctor, he whispered in his ear that Zero was awake. The doctor slipped out of bed. Langdon was already running back to his mate. Seeing the Alpha Right behind him.
"When did he wake up?"
"Moments ago." Langdon's heart was pounding in his chest. "He doesn't remember what happened."
Zero was staring up at the ceiling when everyone returned the room. His head turned. Showing his neck, the Alpha grabbed a hold of him. He squeezed and let tears slip out.
"Boy, don't ever do this to me. I thought I lost you."
Zero studied his father's actions. He could remember fighting and protecting Josh. After that there was nothing.
"Josh?"
"Is fine." He pointed to the far back corner. Cherry was curled up to Josh's chest.
"I didn't even see him." Zero whispered.
"It's because the Wolf's Bane is still in your system. Right now your mind is still cloudy. It will clear up. But until then, rest. Don't push your mind." The pack doctor studied his eyes.
"I'll make sure he rest." Langdon offered. "Or I'll put him to sleep."
"You wouldn't do that to me." Zero pulled Langdon over to him. "I'm a injured man. You have to take care of me."
"Placing you to sleep would be taking care of you."
Zero's sigh earned him some chuckles. There was no worries that things will be getting back to normal soon. Vera squeezed her away up to her son. Smacked everybody away as she engulfed Zero between her arms, for a motherly hug.
"You are grounded. There will be no more getting hurt or trying to die on me. You are not allowed to fall. Do you hear me Zero Nathanial Blackwood?" She gripped his chin between her fingers, "I mean it. You are not allowed to even think about getting hurt."
"Mom," Zero chocked out. She nodded her head with flesh tears. That's all that needed to be said.
"Okay, Zero needs his rest. In then morning, I'll get him up and give a full examine. I can't do that with all these pups." Waving his hands towards the girls on the bed.
Langdon turned Zero's head once everyone had left. Claiming his mate's lips, he never actually realized how much he missed kissing Zero until then. A soft moan slipped out. Zero pulled back, pointed down to the girls.
"I hope you don't believe this will stop me."
Langdon blushed, he actually had forgotten about the girls on the bed. Including the little sister snuggled up to him.
"I missed you." He whispered.
"I will make it up to you." Zero pulled him more onto he chest. Amber slid with him. A soft laugh slipped out. "How long?"
"A couple of days."
"No one died?"
"No." Langdon siffled.
"Babe, don't. I'm sorry, this is what I do. I protect what's mine. Josh and Aaron are mine."
Rolling his eyes, he wasn't in the mood for hearing the male domination crap. Especially after everything that has happened. All he wanted was Zero to realize that he was scared to lose him. Sensing his mate's discomfort, Zero rubbed his back. He knew what Langdon was feeling. No one was going to take him away from Langdon just yet. No war was going to spilt them apart.
Kisses rained over his face when the girls woke up. June's squeals had woken up the entire room. Josh showed his neck to his Alpha. Zero brought him down to the bed. Their foreheads laid together for a moment. Aaron was pulled between them. His Beta's were safe. He needed his Beta's. Fighting beside anyone else wouldn't be the same.
While the pack doctor was examining Zero, Langdon decided to jump into the shower. His mind was full of what if's and horrorable images. He was just getting people around him that knew what it was like being different. Because of him being with Zero, Tatom was allowed to leave with the help of his mother and Liz.
The door opened, the draft sent chills up his spine. Out of the is eye, he seen Zero coming towards him. A smile formed on his face. An arm wrapped around his waist as two lips fell on his shoulder.
"Need help washing your back?" The wash cloth wiped down his back. "I love your curves. Strong and soft at the same time."
"What's made you so loving?"
"You" Zero traced his tongue along his neck. "You've been upset. I think you should relax."
"I like that idea."
Zero turned him around and pinned him against the wall. His fingers were already working in and out of him. Grinding their power halves, Zero growled. Langdon must be punished for that kiss he gave him last night. Langdon rocked his hips telling Zero he was ready. As Zero's member entered, Langdon's moan echoed off the bathroom walls. The deeper he drove, the heated Langdon became. Licking his shoulder, his fangs scraped the delicate skin. Langdon's fingers interwined with the dark head of hair. Whimpering for release, Langdon grinded his hips. Zero bit down as his release shot deep warmth within his mate. Langdon screamed out in pleasure.
"I love you,"Zero breathed out.
"I love you." In reply.
