Sometimes when you're older, you start having feelings for your best friend and everything becomes just a bit more complicated all of a sudden.

When Stiles turned 14, he and Derek went to the lake a few miles away from the Hales' house. They stayed there from morning until night just talking and playing around. Stiles had realised he was attracted to guys a while ago but he only started realising he was attracted to Derek about a month before that day and, if he was honest with himself, Stiles was terrified of what would happen if he told Derek.

When Derek suggested they should go back to the house, Stiles held him back. He took a deep breath and simply said that he was gay. Derek grinned and answered with a cheery 'I know' and then they were on their way to the house, trying to get there before it got too dark.

By the time Stiles realised Derek liked boys too, he was closer to 15 than he was 14 and Derek was nearly 17. Stiles only realised it because he walked in on Derek and his 'friend' half naked on Derek's bed. Stiles had blushed and closed the door, waiting for Derek in the living room.

Derek had been embarassed at first but soon became annoyed at the amount of jokes Stiles had made to make him feel better. Derek, though he would never admit it, was very fond of Stiles' jokes and adored the stupid little grin Stiles had on everytime they hung out. He was also very impressed at the amount of new jokes Stiles managed to find.

On Derek's birthday, his boyfriend broke up with him. Stiles, who had slept over, decided to make Derek happy for today at least and disappeared for about 2 hours (during that time, Derek was miserable) and reappeared with Derek's favorite Blu-Rays, candies, pastries, and a tape from when they were children because he had found it in his room.

After 3 hours and a lot of tissues, Derek started feeling better and after another 5 hours, he was laughing at Stiles' jokes and stupid faces and the heartbreak was hidden away for the moment. Around 11PM on that day, Derek and Stiles were watching the tape Stiles had found in his room. Within the first 2 minutes, Stiles was fast asleep on Derek's shoulder.

Derek kept watching the tape however and as the memories came back to mind, he smiled. He remembered being 8 and seeing Stiles getting bullied and he remembered seeing the two kids beating him so much that Stiles had passed out. In a way, Derek was almost glad for it because it meant that he and Stiles had a reason to become friends.

As the tape kept playing and the memories kept coming, Derek fell asleep. When his parents checked up on them in the morning they took a picture and walked back out quietly. Stiles was curled into Derek and Derek was holding Stiles to him with his face buried in Stiles' hair which no one would let them forget. Ever. If anything, the picture would be printed out and framed.

Derek was worried as he got closer to 17 because he knew the more time went by and the closer it got to his graduation and moving away from Stiles to go to college. The idea was absolutely terrifying to Derek and, though he didn't show it, Stiles was worried about it as well. Derek eventually just promised Stiles to stay in the state until they could go somewhere together- wether it be the same university or universities that are close to each other.

With a very big smile, Stiles hugged Derek tightly and sighed happily when Derek hugged him back just as tightly.
