Chapter 12
Charles’s POV
I couldn’t keep still in my seat the entire journey to find Jesse’s camp. I had rung his mobile phone and Kayda answered. She said she couldn’t exactly tell me the specific place of the camp but she’d give me a rough idea. Geoffrey and Leonardo had search all over the state in search of any signs of a gay-to-straight camp. I couldn’t get over how stupid the idea was that people generally thought a camp like this would work? Being gay isn’t like having the flu; it won’t go no matter how hard you try to make it. ‘Are we there yet?’ I asked like a desperate school child whilst kicking the back of the passenger’s seat as I slid right to the end of the seats in the back of the limo.
‘Do we look like were there?’ Leonardo asked sounding irritated. It might of been because I was making the car shake with my constant kicking, or because I had asked the same question a hundred times.
‘How long? How long?’ I chanted repeatedly as I stopped kicking the seat then began tapping my feet on the floor.
‘Charles stop asking questions or else you’ll give me grey hair. I thought you were over Jesse anyway,’ Geoffrey said as he rubbed his hands over his face whilst pretending to pull his hair out.
‘I am, I just want to see him and ask him what was running through his head when he signed up for this stupid camp,’ I buzzed as I clapped my hands. ‘Can I have coffee? I want coffee. Leonardo get me coffee please!’ I yelled as I crawled back across the seat then over to Geoffrey.
‘You don’t need coffee Charles, you all ready seem over energised,’ Geoffrey admitted sound depressed.
‘But I want coffee! I’ll have a strop, Chandler is allowed coffee so why aren’t I?’ I complained as I crossed my arms and my legs.
‘What are you on about Char, Chandler isn’t even here,’ Geoffrey grumbled. ‘Now be quiet or else Leonardo will turn this limousine around and we’ll go back to the hotel.
‘No, I’ll be quiet, I promise,’ I said as I knelt on the floor and prayed to Geoffrey. Geoffrey sighed then began reading a book. ‘Are we there yet?’ I asked quietly before giggling like a little school girl who had just found out the best secret ever. Geoffrey and Leonardo both groaned loudly which only made my smile extend on my face.
‘When you see my face hope it gives you hell, hope it gives you hell!’ I sang loudly along with the stereo. Geoffrey had his knees tucked up to his chin and his hands covering his ears whilst he groaned loudly. Leonardo had been silent for the past half an hour. ‘Now where’s your picket fence love? And where’s that shiny car? And did it get you far?’ I sang into Geoffrey ear. He just elbowed me lightly in the stomach as I dropped backwards.
‘Charles shut the hell up, I mean seriously now!’ Geoffrey shouted as he stood up with a bend in his back seen as his head was pressed against the roof.
‘Don’t speak to me like that, I’m your father!’ I quoted. Geoffrey just rolled his eyes then went back to covering his ears. ‘And truth be told I miss you, and truth be told I’m lying,’ I continued to sing but a little quieter as I put the window down then rested my arms on the windowsill. ‘How much longer Leo?’ I asked quietly as I watched the trees fly past the window as we drove quickly down a road.
‘Not long now. Please be quiet though Char because if you lose your voice then we would have come all this way for no reason,’ Leonardo practically begged.
‘Okay then, I’ll pretend to sleep a little,’ I laughed as I fell down onto the leather seats around the limousine.
We got there, FINALLY! I mean you don’t even understand my happiness. Leonardo opened the door for me and I tumbled out but Geoffrey caught me. ‘I’m scared; I don’t want to see him anymore. Perhaps we can come back another day?’ I stuttered as I grabbed onto Geoffrey’s arm.
‘Forget it Char, I just bust my ass persuading Leonardo to bring you here so you can go and speak to Jesse,’ Geoffrey told me as he shrugged my hand off his arm then crossed his arms over his chest which made his muscles show through his blazer.
‘Excuse me, you need to leave the perimeter immediately,’ a man said as he walked out of the porter-potties in the trees. ‘Wait no. Blond hair, perfect skin and fashion sense. You two are obviously in need of the cure? SSA tricks everyone, don’t worry we can start now and you’ll be cured by the end of the month at least,’ the rather chubby man began as he wiped his wet hands on his jumper whilst I watched in disgust.
‘If you don’t mind me asking, what’s SSA?’ I questioned as I tried to stop looking at the man whilst he rubbed his dirty, sausage like fingers on his jumper which were still covered in mud.
‘Same sex attraction, a terrible disease. Thanks to this camp you can get treated and you’ll be normal again.’ I laughed sarcastically.
‘You are kidding right?’
‘If you don’t want to join the camp you must leave,’ the man sassed. I looked at him then rolled my eyes.
‘Yeah that’s right, sorry I forgot. Geoffrey and I are in need of treatment to cure the gay,’ I lied as I walked over to the man. I was going to shake his hand but then I looked back at the mud still covering his hands, at least I hope its mud.
‘Come on then boys, let’s go get ready. I think the guys are raft building.’ Geoffrey looked at me and I gave him a “do as you’re told” look before smiling a fake, yet enthusiastic, smile at the man. The man gesture for us to follow him and me and Geoffrey both walked behind him nervously.
‘Okay go and join the boys. I don’t want any touching! Once you’ve been out today I will examine you and I will see what you need help with,’ Philip began as he led us into a grassy field. I could hear shouting and laughing coming from the river. Geoffrey stuck behind me as we walked slowly down the slope leading to the river trying not to slip on the wet mud. ‘I’ll come out in a minute I just needed to make a few phone calls,’ Philip told us as he walked off leaving us with a bunch of random guys.
‘We’ve got to do it now Char,’ Geoffrey whispered into my ear as I scanned the boys for Jesse. I instantly stopped looking when I saw Jesse’s dark brown hair. He was dripping with water whilst wrestling a guy with auburn hair.
‘No way!’ The auburn haired guy shouted as he stood up whilst pulling Jesse’s shoulders. I saw the guy with auburn hair look at me and then the entire group of guys stared at me apart from Jesse who was lying on the floor. ‘That’s Prince Charles.’ Jesse shot up from the ground then looked around until our glance connected. I saw him smile from ear-to-ear and he then began pushing through the crowds of people in my direction.
‘Princey-boy!’ Jesse exclaimed as he ran up to me before hugging me. ‘I missed you,’ he whispered gently into my ear. I couldn’t help but smile. Then I saw the auburn haired guy rushing behind through the crowd after Jesse.
‘Jess what’s going on? Do you know him?’ the guy asked as he looked between the pair of us whilst Jesse stepped backwards.
‘Char meet Daman, Daman - Charles,’ Jesse introduced. I smiled awkwardly at Daman and then looked back to Jesse.
‘So you missed me? Well that’s nice,’ I teased as I poked Jesse’s chest.
‘What’s going on seriously?’ Daman asked confused.
‘I went to school with Charles when he came to America last time,’ Jesse explained to Daman who then nodded his head slowly. ‘Geoffrey nice to see you too, would you like me to bow or something?’ Jesse grinned as he looked at Geoffrey before bowing messily. Geoffrey copied him before punching his arm lightly.
‘I can’t believe you Jesse Taylor! Believing you’ll get cured if you come here. Anyway when was you planning on coming out?’ I asked as I looked at him with a smirk.
‘When you admit how deeply in love you are with me,’ Jesse replied as he hugged me again. ‘You don’t even understand how much I’ve missed you!’
‘Well coming from your sister it seems you’ve got a new girl ay Jess?’ I asked as I continued to hug him. The entire group had stopped raft building and were now looking at us without making a noise. I didn’t even feel awkward though, I was just happy to be with Jesse again.
‘That’s true actually,’ Jesse admitted sounding slightly disappointed.
‘No change there then, that’s okay though because I found my bride-to-be,’ I answered seeming proud yet upset by my news. Jesse backed away looking a little hurt. Jesse mumbled something under his breath which I didn’t quite catch. ‘What?’ I asked.
‘Nothing, it doesn’t matter,’ Jesse said quickly.
‘So you’re Daman? I guess you’re friends with my Jesse, I mean Jesse, just Jesse,’ I quickly corrected myself. I could see Jesse smiling at the ground in front of me as my cheeks flushed a slight shade of pink.
‘Yes that’s true Sir,’ Daman responded as he bowed.
‘Please don’t bow,’ I insisted politely as I looked at the river.
We were still raft building and there wasn’t any sign of Philip. ‘Geoffrey I can’t tie the stupid rope!’ I complained to Geoffrey who was in the river after just falling off one of the other rafts.
‘I’ll help you,’ Jesse decided as he came to my rescue whilst Geoffrey clung onto his raft which he was sharing with Daman. Butterflies filled my stomach and I felt like I would be sick any moment.
‘My hero,’ I laughed as I handed the ropes to Jesse with a grin. ‘So how is treatment going?’ I mocked thinking how stupid this idea was.
‘To be honest its crap,’ Jesse answered as he finished tying the rope and then he jumped onto the centre of the raft before holding my hands whilst I stepped onto it. ‘I don’t think I’ll ever change back.’
‘You never changed in the first place never mind change back. Now let’s try and get to the waterfall,’ I decided as I splashed my hands in the clear water trying to make Jesse and I move but it was just getting me wet.
‘Whatever you say Prince,’ Jesse answered.
‘I warned you about calling me Prince!’ I scolded as we actually moved whilst Jesse used a paddle thing. ‘If I drown I will kill you,’ I threatened.
‘But dude you’ll already be dead,’ Jesse replied stubbornly. I just rolled my eyes before sitting on the raft with my legs crossed.
The waterfall was gorgeous. The grass all around it was green and the water fell loudly into the flowing river making a loud, peaceful sound. Jesse and I sat on the side of the river just watching the water. ‘So what’s your bride called?’ Jesse asked randomly.
‘Rosanne and your girlfriend is?’ I asked as I looked at Jesse.
‘Olivia,’ Jesse answered. ‘Is Rosanne better looking than me?’ Jesse asked as he pouted his lips whilst trying to pose like a model.
I nodded my head. ‘Definitely,’ I laughed sarcastically, no one could beat Jesse with his beauty. Jesse made a weird noise before tickling me. I couldn’t help but flap my arms around like a weirdo. ‘Jess...stop!’ I managed to splutter between breaths and giggles. I quickly turned onto my belly then pushed myself up before running away. I guess being a Prince isn’t good on the physical stuff either. Jesse easily caught up with me and began tickling me until I fell against a tree. Jesse continued to tickle me and I continued to laugh. And then it happened, out of nowhere we were kissing again. His lips tasted like a mix between mint and chocolate. I actually knew how to kiss now unlike last time when I probably kissed like a fish. Jesse’s tongue explored my mouth as I held onto the back of his neck with my hand whilst he wrapped his arms around my waist. My denim trousers began to tighten around me and I knew what had happened.
‘What is going on here?’ I heard someone shout. Jesse quickly jumped back and I put my hands over my area trying to disguise it a little better. Philip was stood before us. I stayed silent. ‘I knew you were going to be trouble but I didn’t think it would be this bad,’ Philip began to complain.
‘Philip you don’t understand,’ I tried to explain myself but Philip cut me off.
‘I do understand, don’t you worry. Jesse go to the room and don’t think about leaving until you’ve calmed yourself,’ Jesse nodded then walked off. I wanted to call for him but I didn’t bother. ‘And Charles, we need to start on the ground rules.’
‘No we don’t, I’m leaving. Being gay isn’t illness, you can’t cure it. I need to go and find Geoffrey now so I’ll see you,’ I said as I waved once then began jogging after Jesse.
‘You’ve done it again haven’t you Charles,’ Jesse mumbled as he continued to walk whilst staring at the ground. I looked at Jesse with a raised eyebrow.
‘Done what?’ I questioned slowly.
‘You’ve come here, made me remember you, bought the feeling back which I thought left and then you’re just going to go again.’
‘What are you on about Jesse? I’ve just left a camp that thinks it can “cure” homosexuality,’ I made quotation marks with my fingers as I said cure. ‘The only reason I came to this stupid place was to find you. Of course I’m going to have to go again because this isn’t my home. My home needs me,’ I began.
‘And my home needs me but I’m at this messed up camp because my mom signed me up here. I’ve left Kayda to come to this stupid thing because my mom says I might actually have a chance of being normal and achieving something in life.’
‘Go home then Jesse,’ I replied simply.
‘If it was that easy Charles. Look the kiss was a mistake, I wasn’t thinking, I guess I was just happy about seeing you again,’ Jess sniffed. I stopped walking whilst he continued through the trees. Jesse didn’t actually want to see me.
